refs called some fucking bullshit fouls on leslie and howell in the 2nd half. they realized they fucked up letting howell get out of the 1st half with just 1 so they hit him wit 2 right away in the 2nd. his 5th foul was more bullshit. the first push-off they called on leslie's putback was bullshit. he didn't even touch anybody. alex johnson missing a fucking uncontested layup. wood was off all night be he absolved himself with that 3 to cut it to 1.

so fucking infuriating. so close. this is probably the game that would have sent us dancing if we won but we'll probably just barely miss the tournament. after this loss, i really think we have to get 2 out of FSU, UNC, or @Duke (and then still win the other games we're supposed to win).

that was a tough last possession, but that's not where the game is lost. More times than not, a team is not gonna score when they have only 10 seconds.

What kinda sucked is that Zo took the desperation shot way too late. A little early and at least we had a chance at a rebound as we had more down low.

I agree - we won't get anywhere like this. It's just that illogical NC State optimism syndrome all up in me that comes back with a vengeance, despite thousands of facepalms at the sight of NC State athletics.

Unless the wheels fall off following these consecutive losses which is typical of us in the past - although I think Gottfried does good work on the optimism and positive attitude aspect - at least the next two games should give us a little bit of a confidence boost and room to regroup and improve our game.

You guys are all crazy melodramatic. It was obvious that this team played its ass off. Last years team, this would have been a 15pt loss. You can also fault UVA for putting Zeglinski 1 on 1 with wood. That was a dumb move for them.

We haven't seen the hustle from a NCSU team like this for several years. Wins will come. And I believe 3 of them in a row will come. Also, having 3 hard games in a row could be a blessing for us. Win 1 of those, have momentum going into the next. Win 2 of them, we'll probably be in. Win 0 of them, and fuck it.

if we had like 2 more seconds that last play would have been genius.

aside from the NHL playoffs the moments after Wood hit that three towards the end was the loudest I've heard the RBC in a long long time. probably since UNC 2007. or assorted regular season Hurricanes games leading up to the 2009 playoff run, but it may have been louder than that tonight.

I don't know if this was said as I haven't read the previous pages, but watching the last play felt almost identical to the 2004 NCAA tourney when we lost to Vanderbilt. Seemingly no last play was drawn up and freshman Atsur running around with the ball and getting a terrible shot to end it.

There's no way we make the NCAA tourney now, and a shot at a first-round bye in the ACC tourney seems lost as well.

did you miss the announcement just before the game? we are now doing "the man" thing where we make more noise whenever "the man" touches the ball. which i couldn't really tell a difference. for most of the game the noise level was pretty consistent.

Just got back from the game also...

A: There's no way that this game should have come down to a last possesion play. Between the missed free throws, horrible officiating, and missed opportunities (see missed layups by AJ), we should have won this game by 15 points.
B: I haven't seen that amount of hustle in any NC State in a very long time. I get the frustration with the last play, but there's no question that we outplayed UVA for the other 39 minutes and 53 seconds.
C: Howell was playing like a man possessed. I can only wonder what more he could have done without sitting for most of the 2nd half. Still, GG Howell.
D: This game was the embodyment of NC State shit.

I have no problem with people being angry/dissapointed with a loss and passionate about our team, but this 'pack your bags, the season is over' mentality is ridiculous.

Our teams have been painful to watch for years because it was obvious there was no growth or improvement from one season to the next, let alone one game to the next. We now have a coaching staff giving our guys actual worthwhile guidance and we are showing an amazing amount of improvement in a really short amount of time.

No one expected a complete 180 for our team overnight, but the success they have had already exceeded my expectations for what we would do with a major coaching/culture change this season. But, damn, a few hard losses and so many of you act like we have been a perennial powerhouse and/or favored to win the championship this season.

From what I have seen thus far this season, I still have a lot of faith that our team can make some serious stuff happen and I truly think the foundation is being laid for true greatness in the coming years.

when you play the whole game pretty much 4-on-5 at the offensive end of the floor because one guy's entire purpose is to stand in the exact same spot and never move off the ball and he bricks a lot of shots, it's going to be hard to win
