I remain a free agent in EPL fandom.

I'd jump on the Spurs bandwagon in a heartbeat if Clint signs. I already know the Twitter jokes.

I think Lloris will be #1 by January at the latest.

I still wish Spurs would have bought someone like Joao to replace Modric. Gylfi, Dempsey, and Dembele all play attacking roles so you're left with a wounded Parker, Sandro, or Livermore to set up attacks. Hopefully, they'll revisit the position in January.

Defoe is the worst. He never threatens the goal.

And about transfer deadline day, not paying up for Mouts will be the downfall of the team this year.

Funny to see fans on Twitter complaining that Arsenal didn't buy yesterday. These were the same people complaining about the high priced "panic buys" that happened on the final day last season. This year Wenger goes out ahead of time, signs 3 ridiculously good players, and gets flamed for not making a token purchase the last day of the window. Cazorla could easily end up being the best purchase in the league this year, but because it didn't happen yesterday a lot of people like to complain about lack of ambition. Granted, adding depth would have been nice, but they would have just been squad players and not key signings like the other 3.

Also Dempsey to Spurs hurts. As an avid Clint fan, seeing him in a Spurs kit will suck

Also also, who said I was stupid for saying Arsenal should sign Lloris? Szczesny out injured after the first game and now we are starting Mannone...

Is AVB ever going to start Adebayor? I thought he was ideal for his 'lone-striker' formation.

Also, I had no idea Friedel declared bankruptcy in 2011. No doubt he still making good money playing and he's had a few color commentary gigs, but it still sucks to hear about a guy losing $10M developing a soccer academy in America.

Good to see Cazorla and Podolski playing well with one another.

As for Pool, I thought Allen and Sterling were impressive. Jonjo also played well as a sub.

This is pretty ridiculous. Most Arsenal fans were very happy with the buys on deadline day last year and would have been thrilled to see some similar buys this year. Arteta and Mertesacker = token buys? Arsenal fans were excited about the three signings earlier this summer because they strengthened a solid squad to make it top level; I don't know if it was a league champion caliber side, but certainly one that could be in the mix late and certainly challenge for some trophies. By losing Van Persie and Song and replacing them with (presumably) the players bought earlier in the summer, it's two steps forward and two steps back. Right back to being a team that at it's very best can contend for 3rd place and maybe one of the two domestic cups.

Arsene Wenger himself said that he needed to bring in a top class defensive midfielder and would do so before the window closed. He failed to do that. Also, lumping Giroud into the "ridiculously good" category is way jumping the gun. He could certainly turn out to be great, but he could also very well turn out to be another Chamakh. He hasn't shown much so far and as great as today's win was, if he doesn't find his game eventually this team is going to look a lot like the one of the last several years during all the stretches that RvP was off somewhere getting horse placenta rubbed on him.

Also,

That's a little unfair. Giroud was the leading scorer in Ligue 1 and a 20-goal scorer. Chamakh was a nice Ligue 1 player but never scored more than 13 league goals for Bordeaux.

I agree with your post by and large. Even if they make these signing and hold on to RVP this is a title contender in England this season easily and a Top Four lock. As it is, third or fourth is about the ceiling barring Man United's midfield issues not destroying them.

(and LOL at someone on a previous page saying Man U's midfield was better than Arsenals)

I hate to start this pissing match again, but are wingers considered Midfielders or Forwards, based on the 4 basic spots? GK, Def, Mid, Forward. If Wingers are considered "mids" then United can certainly compete with Arsenal. (Nani, Valencia, Kagawa, Young, etc..)

Semantics I guess.

Haha, good point. I don't really feel like rehashing that again.

United have given away possession a lot so far pretty easily. Carrick especially. Very impressed with that Lallana kid.

One season of dominance in Ligue 1 does not guarantee success in the Premier League. Don't take this as me saying he won't be good, because I am quite optimistic about him, but leading the line in the Premier League is a whole different beast and many highly touted players have come to England and been a bust. There is a lot of pressure on Giroud's shoulders; if Podolski is going to be more of a wide player, then a great deal of this season hinges upon Giroud's performance.

No, I agree with you. Just saying Giroud was a better player in Ligue 1 than Chamakh was. No guarantees though, unless you are world class like Eden Hazard coming over to England.

And, jesus, RVP is ridiculously good. His first touch has been even better than I remember. If he stays fit he'll throw in 25 again. I'm not sure where Rooney fits in up front with RVP there. I guess they have some time to figure that out but he'll have to end up laying deeper.

our short passing has been shit so far. uncharacteristically poor from carrick, apart from a couple really nice long balls to RvP.

Welbeck wasted out wide, not his game. Nani must have been shit in training, hard to think he's still being punished for shitting the bed at everton.

we're gonna have a really tough season if we can't figure out how to deal with heavy pressing

really like the shirts though

I was excited about those signings too, go back to last year's thread and read my response. I never called either of them token buys. I said that there were several fans on Twitter complaining about the fact that we didn't do something on the last day of the transfer window, not even bringing in a squad player because it's your last chance to buy, despite the fact that Wenger made great signings early in the window.

He was the league leading score for the league winning club in France last year. You're right, he's no good!

If there is no one out there to buy on deadline day, why waste money? Arsene knows...he knows his squad and the depth he has, he knows how long Sagna will be out and who can fill in at the back if there is an injury. I would have liked to see a squad signing or two for depth, but I'll admit I know nothing about the inner workings of the team so I'm not going to pretend that a lack of purchases on deadline day means that Wenger is out of touch or not ambitious.

Not sure why you want to argue about this, I'm backing Arsenal and they are doing well so far. What's not to be happy about?

No one to buy when Rennes were practically calling people on the phone for M'Vila...

Arsene knows... how to not win a trophy for 8 years

love all the misplaced arsenal hate in here

hate on RVP because he wanted a legitimate chance to win silverware instead of hating on the EPL edition of Herb Sendek for being mediocre for the past 6 seasons.

RVP came to United for the same reason Michael Owen did - they wanted to actually win things. Two of the most storied clubs in english football have been falling apart at the seams for years and instead of addressing the real problems, the fans spit vitriol at players whose careers are measured in trophies won, not "fan goodwill."

Do you think Ole Gunnar Skolsjaer would be a United legend if he hadn't won us the treble in 1999? If you do, you're fooling yourself.
