^^we can have that conversation at the end of the season. typically there is only 3-4 teams "in contention" by the final week of the season

eventually, yeah i think we'll see an 8 team playoff. but maybe the thinking was to start with 4 and expand as needed from there.

also...how many times have we thought a, say, 6th team deserved a shot at the title? rarely, if ever. usually it's down to 3-4 teams at most that you'd consider the best teams in the country.

i do think it'll expand in the future...but i've got no problem with 4 teams currently

The only way I think it would expand is to 6 teams, with top 2 seeds getting a bye for games played Christmas week. A huge benefit of only 4 teams is just 2 extra games (extra to the season, only one more than the bcs system). And really there will be no doubt that the winner of the current playoff isn't the best team in the country, they'll have played two straight against top 4-5 opponents.

That UNC team everyone thinks we'll beat is about to bury GT in the first half. Good times.

^I don't think we'll beat UNC, but they're only beating GT 21-17. With their defense, they'll have to score 45 to beat them.

^^realistically I don't think anybody thinks any game is guaranteed at this point. it's "games we could win" and "games we can't win". and unc is still a "game we could win"

UNC corners are pick 6 or bust on every drive.

Too much time for UNC. They don't have a kicker though so it's 4 downs the whole way.

ND needs to keep scoring td's instead of field goals. The FSU o-line gives Winston plenty of time to make plays.

Terrible play calling by fsu putting the game in the hands of the defense instead of winston.

You have the heismann winner and didnt even give him a chance to try and win the game because of a 4 point lead.

We will say the team who wins earned it but there could be doubt at the end if a 1 loss team wins it all. Right now there are a ton of 1 loss teams. Whose to say a 1 loss team at #4 is better than the team at #5. Teams like msu bama oregon and notre dame. 4 is just not enough unless you finish with exactly 4 unbeaten teams.

some of those fcs teams play multiple sec teams in single seasons. if they beat the shit out of lets say alabama and auburn who go on to beat the shit out of everyone else, they could make it. think app state the year they beat michigan if michigan went on to dominate and app state beat another team like michigan the same year.

they would have to play fcs and fbs playoffs.

So what's everyone's opinion on the PI call that cost Notre Dame a touchdown and a chance to win?

I don't think it should have been called. If defenders can jam wide receivers within the first 5 yards then receivers should be allowed to contact defenders within 5 yards.

Not to be a dick, but who cares what you think? Whether or not it's a penalty has nothing to do with whether or not you think they should be allowed to do it or not.

It was a super easy call. The WR has got to make it at least look like he's trying to run a route as opposed to blocking before the ball has been thrown.

Pick plays are illegal, coach your players to make it less obvious. Everyone criticizes the officials for swallowing their whistles and not calling games the same at the end, it was the right call and ND fans don't have a leg to stand on.

i think it's the wrong call by the following logic: i think if he doesn't make that call, no one really notices, much less objects. the refs aren't an audit team, they shouldn't be out there looking for reasons to throw the flag, even if it's by the book. also i don't think the guy would've gotten there.

^Thats an asinine statement. if theres a penalty, throw the flag. Both of the receivers were literally holding the defensive backs. Whether the DB would have gotten there or not doesn't matter. They committed a penalty so there was a flag. Referrees do their job for once and people are all up in arms about it. Amazing.

i don't know the letter of the rule, but whether a receiver would've gotten there matters for defensive pass interference... i don't know why you'd just dismiss that as irrelevant. it's not like this is a safety issue, if it doesn't change the play then you don't need to throw the flag. and as i just pointed out, that precedent of allowing refs to make judgement calls is already set in football.

100% a penalty. the funny thing is that if Robinson had caught the ball behind the LOS, it would have been perfectly legal.

also, there was no need for any of it. the coverage was blown. the other guys could have just stood there and Robinson would have scored.

that's exactly my point. a guy trying to run across the fucking field to cover a flat route that's wide open... and you throw a flag? that's garbage stuff.

Let's say Golson tucks the ball and tries to run around the edge to get to the end zone. Then his receivers are blocking downfield instead of making a "pick" play. Too much gray area there.
