I'm actually not trying to single you out Ben, this is the first time I've noticed you doing it.
The simple fact is, as a general rule, the size of your bankroll doesn't equate to your skill level. There are idiots at every level of play, just like there are really good players at every level of play. This thread is intended for discussion on poker, not discussions on how cool you think you are because you play at high limit tables. I am sure the pros wouldn't think that a 5/10 game was that big of a deal when compared with some of the games they play.
On a side note, I would agree to keeping the freeroll and/or play money stories in a seperate thread. Those games are ridiculous." |
gahdamn, called out.

now, i try very hard not to do this. many people on here know that i still will play as low as 1/2 online. done that for years. the game is a different beast. i think i am probably the most active poster in this thread, and id like to think that ive tried to help people that play at all levels, for the most part. its not like a see a .50/1 hand and scoff at it or refuse to read it due the fact that its a few levels below where i frequent. thats absurd. this thread should be about helping each other grow and sharing silly stories. many stupid and silly things happen around the game.
sure it may appear as if recently ive sorta turned this thread into a poker blog. without hand histores due to playing live, its hard to really portray the action and the questions i have. i still try and reenact the aciton however, but i think i have digressed a bit to the point of only posting hands which i lost. maybe these are easier to remember, maybe its just frustration, who knows. ill stop that then.

if you reread my last post, it is a story, not a calling out of someone for losing a $100 stack.
it creeped me out to have someone come up to me and tell me a bad beat story while im using the facilities. it made me uncomfortable, and was a strange situation. i tell BB stories all the time, but never to someone while they are taking a leak. the stakes i could care less about, but thats the $ amount he said, not one i made up.

completely agree!!
playing 20/40 on a weekend at borgata, you see many of these independantly wealthy gentlemen who are absolutely terrible populating the table. its great, but damn if it doesnt make some sticky situations. its much harder to see where you are at. sometimes that game plays worse than the casino 2/4 (which equates to about .05/.10 online). they are playing wide open, 95% of hands, etc. they just dont want to sit at a lower game, but dont feel comfortable in the high limit room. there is no middle limit really at borgata, its 20/40 or 40/80. these guys would probably love somethinglike a 30/60. i cant handle the swings yet and am stuck back in 10/20 till i build at least a 500 BB roll for the 20 game. On the other end, the 1/2 NL games in casinos around AC have become ridiculous. its no longer the cash cow it used to be. with the growth of online play, and so many poeple putting in so many hours learning, developing a game, and playing, there are so many people my age that play the 1/2 that are tough as fucking nails. Some of the best players ive ever seen play the 1/2 in AC. (which, is the lowest NL game available)
i dont even play NL anymore live. the regulars are levels above me, and its frightening really.

also agree.
i thought it was cool for a while when i was playing 30/60 lo8 everyday online.
then i got destroyed for a week and shat all over myself, teaching me a lesson.
im not satisfied with a red chip game, im not gonna be happy till im killin the yellow games.
i dont want to come off as sounding pretentious due to the stories i tell... i dont intend to, but i guess ill stop. its just there are times where this thread is rather dead, and ill drop a few hands in. but whatever.7/26/2006 8:50:55 AM |

if you are around the first break with a good stack, theres really no need to get too involved here.
i mean, in later rounds, push hard, but i hate getting too attached to a draw early in a tournament.
its one of those situations where both actions are correct.

fold, fold, sb calls, bb calls.
flop is Kd Jc Th.
sb bets, bb folds, i raise.
turn is a Qs

river is a middling low card that is inconsequential.

i stand by what I said the last page.
if some guy gets offended that you are playing in higher limits then f him
i dont want to hear anyone's bad beat story for any amount of money, but like i said before, 4-5 posts on every page is someone playing small stakes and getting a bad beat by a horrible player, when likely they could have avoided it. When you are playing for 20 bucks, it is more likely to happen, and if you cant afford to lose the 20 you shouldnt be playing so dont whine about it 7/26/2006 9:52:12 AM |

Next strategy post.
how ofter do you call down a guy who is loooooooseeee passive preflop then kicks it up to utra laggggg post flop?
have shown to bet for value with gutshots, flush draws, oesds, tpgk, tptk, mptk, and basically any two combinations of cards.
what values do you deem necessary to call down for showdown value?
These guys are ultra dangerous. they usually have swingggggggggsss.
hes on an upswing. when these guys run right, they run really right. hes up 4 racks in a game where you buy in for 1 rack standardly.
We raise out with Jd Jh in EP.
one of those talkative kids, looks at me and says "i know guys just like you, raise out with the goods then bet the flop no matter what hits right? you play a simple game"
[ok champ.]
he calls, rest of table folds (???)
flop is Q25 suits inconsequential.
we check to show that we're not going to bet every flop, but well let him do the betting for us.
of course he bets.
where do we go now? 7/26/2006 9:58:32 AM |

Ok, here is the schedule. We will need a minimum of 4 players for each tourney, otherwise the event will not run. There are 6 events, and your top 4 scores will count. I tried to mix up the games as best I could, and kept them on Tuesdays, minus the first event.
All tourneys will be played on Full Tilt. You can view all the tournaments now, and pre register, by going to the "tournaments" tab, and then selecting "private". You can search by date, or by double clicking on an event will bring up the "TWWSOP Summer 2006 Event "X"".
Passwords for all tourneys are "TWW2006". All buyins are $10+1.
8/24/06: No Limit Hold Em 8/29/06: Pot Limit Omaha 9/5/06: No Limit Hold Em 9/12/06: HORSE 9/19/06 Pot Limit Omaha H/L 9/26/06 No Limit Hold Em
Scores will be posted after every tournament. Event times and days cannot be changed. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. 7/26/2006 1:28:41 PM |

ok, lets talk about a hand. late stage of a tourney last night. blinds are 25/50 and im big stack with about 800 chips.
UTG limps. folds to me in the SB where i find 99. i raise it up to 175. BB folds, and UTG goes insta-all in.
whats the right play here? she had about 500+ in chips at the time. 6 people left in the tourney, only 3 pay. 7/27/2006 8:41:57 AM |
Phil LOLlins All American 1402 Posts user info edit post |
depending on the type of player this, a UTG limp when the BB is like 1/10th-1/11th of her stack should have been a warning, unless she is terrible, and if she is terrible who knows, but lets say she is decent. You stubbed your toe, so you fold. If I am a big stack there, I may actually see a flop for half price and then make my decision (ie just call) against a bad player. It all depends on the players left and if the amount you are playing for matters to you. 7/27/2006 9:50:23 AM |
pilgrimshoes Suspended 63151 Posts user info edit post |
well.
if you were big stack, it was pretty even it sounds.
there is 175+50+550 (we'll say 550 for ease since you said 500+) = 775 in the pot.
you have 375 to call for a pot holding 775.
you are getting roughly 2:1 money on your call with a pair.
do me a favor, and assign a percentage chance you suspect to see the following hands from UTG.
AA KK QQ JJ TT 99 88 77 66 55 44 33 22
AK AQ AJ AT KQ KJ 7/27/2006 11:05:20 AM |
linoleum24 All American 848 Posts user info edit post |
before i put in the raise, i knew she was going to go all in or fold to my raise. she would have done this with AA, KK, QQ, JJ, or AK....possibly AQs.
i ended up folding the hand because i had alot of chips and didnt feel the need to race right then.
she ended up showing AJo after i folded.

copy that line of hands and assign a percentage adding up to 100%
were gonna do an exercise. =) 7/27/2006 11:14:38 AM |
linoleum24 All American 848 Posts user info edit post |
AA 17.5% KK 17.5% QQ 10% JJ 10% TT 5% 99 0% 88 0% 77 0% 66 0% 55 0% 44 0% 33 0% 22 0%
AK 25% AQ 15% AJ 0% AT 0% KQ 0% KJ 0%
She was bigger than the average stack, which is why so many of these hands have 0%. I figured she would have to be strong to limp, then push all in with her stack, know that I would likely be calling her raise with most anything. I think I made the right fold for the situation. 7/27/2006 11:26:22 AM |
pilgrimshoes Suspended 63151 Posts user info edit post |
so. with that range, youd be surprised.
Hand: % win% equity AA 0.175 0.2 0.035 KK 0.175 0.2 0.035 QQ 0.1 0.2 0.02 JJ 0.1 0.2 0.02 TT 0.05 0.2 0.01 AK 0.25 0.56 0.14 AQ 0.15 0.56 0.084 Total: 0.344
against your range you were getting a 34.4% equity. since you were facing a wager getting 34.4% equity on a 32.6% bet, you should take the bet. statistically.
