9 mm isn't even worth reloading imo. especially on a single stage. i could see cranking out thousands a year on a progressive.

Picked up a Hi Point 995 today. Wanted a carbine that I can put a bunch of rounds through and not spend a ton. Soverign has boxes of 1000 9 mm for $220 so it was right up my alley. Already have a couple 9 mm pistols.

I reload 9mm!!! But, I'm in Greenville. And, I do have a turret, my last 1,000 I loaded cost me $85.00 v $200+ you would pay retail... I also load for minimum PF for competition though too, which you cant buy in a store.

I have to Novenske, the only advice I can give though is don't overpay. Just like every other gun, you can get them way below retail. I got mine off of gunbroker for less than I paid for my RockRiver.

I just recently took the concealed and carry course, so I am now in the market to buy my first ever pistol. I've been a hunter my whole life and own several shotguns/rifles, but have never owned a pistol nor do I know anything about different makes/models/brands/calibers.

I'm looking to purchase two pistols:
1) Carrying revolver for protection. Probably hammerless single-action. I'm open to a semi-automatic instead here. Would prefer a smaller pistol that could fit in my pockets.
2) A sport shooting pistol. Wide open to suggestions here. Don't need anything huge, but just something fun to shoot at the range.

CC - I carry a Ruger LCP (pocket pistol). If I wanted a hammerless revolver though, I'd go with the Ruger LCR.

Sporting - take your pick. My favorite was my Sig P226 9mm. Great gun and super comfortable in my hand.

I just got a S&W bodyguard 380 as my new concealed weapon, and I love it so far, it shoots great. The built-in laser is worthless for defense situations, but can be fun at the range as long as you are a good shooter and dont rely on it to be able to hit the target.

generally, the bigger the number the more kick.

weight of the weapon being fired also has alot to do with the "kick" IE a LCP is only a .380, but its small size gives considerable (IMHO) kick. My PK380 has lot less kick even with the same caliber, since it has more mass.

That's really, really imprecise advice. The answer is that there isn't a simple one. The only rule that is simple and always true is that the heavier the gun, the more recoil it will absorb. Outside of that, bullet weight, powder charge, powder speed, action type, muzzle blast, muzzle flash, and noise all affect perceived recoil. The diameter of the projectile has virtually nothing to do with the equation. Recoil can vary greatly even within the same bullet size. Take a .32 for instance. You can push an 85gr slug at 600fps in a .32 S&W (barely any recoil at all), to 1700fps or better in a .327 magnum(one hell of slap on the palm). Same bullet size, same bullet weigh, same bullet diameter, greatly different recoil. Basically, you just have to learn your cartridges if you want to have any idea about what sort of recoil to expect.

Also depends on the firearm. Glock's new 4th gen G23 (Compact 40) has quite less recoil than the Gen 3. My dad's Taurus 92FS 9mm has just as much, if not more, recoil than the new Glock G23 .40 compact. (I've shot them both back to back). Rent a few guns, get a feel of them and see what works best for you

My two cents:

CC - LCR or LCP (I have the LCP (prefer semi to revolver); and it doesn't really have much kick at all, IMHO).

Fun gun - Springfield XD or XDm depending on your tastes/budget. I have a XD40 and absolutely love it.

The LCP is a great gun backup gun or pocket gun if you can't carry anything else. There sights on it suck, incredibly. Add a long, heavy trigger onto a very light gun and you've got a firearm that's going to be difficult to shoot accurately in certain emergency situations. It is most definitely a <10yd point and shoot gun, maybe 15 yards if you train frequently with it. .380 ammo is pretty pricey for what it is though. Cheapest is about $16/box 50? In addition, stopping power is quite a bit lower from a 9mm or .40. The LCP is going to take more time and discipline to shoot accurate and comfortably. It doesn't have a lot of kick, but it does snap.

I don't say this to scare anyone from the gun as it is after all just my opinion/take on the firearm after having fired one. I'm glad they make it and it most definitely has a unique niche. However, as a primary CC, it's lacking. The LCR is a great firearm in terms or accuracy and firepower in a tight package. The LCR, pardon the pun, is great bang-for-buck and firepower relative to it's size in comparison to the LCP. Of course, get something you are more opt to carrying consistently and that fits your burdening limits/comfort. Try 'em all out

^^ I have a Rock River upper/Spikes lower 9mm that is awesome. Now Spikes is doing their own 9mm uppers so I would definitely check those out.

^I also carry a P2000SK but even that is a little bulky at times. How/where do you carry yours? Would you be willing to let me try out the LCR?

^^I would suggest comparing it with the S&W too... I (personally) think the trigger on the LCR is a little smoother, but the feel of the S&W is a little better for me- over all, I'd be happy with either, but you should definitely give both a shot (pun intended )

I have an LCP, and really just dont do very well with it (its the one Hiro mentioned, neither of us could shoot it well). I saw Kahr's CM9 as a cheaper alternative to the PM9, and it looks pretty damn small, and running about $440 at local shops.

However, I went and held one the other day and since I'm used to pocket carry with the LCP, thats what I want to stick with if at all possible. The CM9 could be pocket carried in cargo pants/shorts, but not jeans or slacks. I saw right next to it the new Diamondback DB9, and saw that it was around $390 and fit in the same pocket holster as my LCP.

Pocket carry is pretty easy in all pants, and I shoot it much better than my LCP. Where with the LCP the long trigger and anticipation made me pull most shots low unless I was concentrating very hard on the trigger pull (ie: not a defensive situation), the DB9 I can hit the target, and it is fairly accurate.

BUT, I dont know if its just my large fingers, or just the way the gun is, but my trigger finger skin gets caught between the trigger and trigger guard on the reset and pinches it, making it very uncomforatable to shoot. Any suggestions on how to solve this? Maybe just go back to the LCP or man up and get the CM9 and just do IWB carry?

I pull low on my LCP when going slow/trying to be accurate. I can normally hit a sub 3" group within 2-4" of my target @ 7yd when rapid firing.

Is it just the cut of your jeans that's causing the issue or is it possible that you're being too picky about it (i.e. like the first week we all have our concealed permit and think everyone is looking at us)?

Wow. That officer was way out of line. I would have spoken up and mentioned the permit while the other officer was in the back seat for sure, regardless of the threats to take my ass to jail if I said anything at all. Something along the lines of: "I have a concealed carry permit and am currently carrying on my right side hip."

If it were me, I wouldn't have said as much after being detained and I probably would have been a victim to police brutality because there's no way someone's going to talk shit like that to my face. There is NEVER a professional reason to have the tone of language displayed by the officer, ever. He was beyond out of line and should be terminated immediately.

I pocket carry a KelTec P32. I tried the 380, tried the PF9, even had the P11. Have also tried a XD subcompact. So far, I prefer the 32 with a wallet holster for being a 'pocket carry invisible in any pants' gun, and I can always OC the 40 or another 'real' gun.
