but to defend yourself by saying they did better than expected was amusing to me

this brought me the lulz.

Judging by the play of Argentina, it will be an interesting match up if they go up against Germany.

ill take +2 on calling rooney. i thought that was pretty obvious. he has been shitty since gettin hurt at the end of march with manchester united. i dont think hes scored a goal for club or country since the first leg of bayern munich. someone correct me if im wrong but i think im right. also gerrard had an awful awful tourney and he shouldnt even be playing/starting for england off his form this year. clearly he only got the starts from his reputation. but man he was awful.

so what have we learned thus far?

Mexico still can't beat Argentina.

USA still can't beat Ghana.

England continues to disappoint.

Hosts countries aren't guaranteed a spot in the round of 16.

many European countries struggle outside of Europe.

African teams can't score.

CONMEBOL representin'

FIFA needs to address officiating (hopefully no replay, though in my humble opinion).

Some people still hate soccer.

Rabble, Rabble, Vuvuzelas. Rabble, Rabble, Jubilani.

Anything I missed?

^^^^i've grown to like Lalas. Although I think he's tamed down somewhat (or i've grown my tolerance for him). Or maybe I just like he and McManaman as his foil. I still hate Harkes, though.

^^^^incorrect

Argentina looks to have the best team chemistry of any team in the tournament. His lineups and subs have been right on point as well. It's hard to wrangle that many egos together and get them to play together like this.

i would have agreed with that. i also thought messi > ronaldo when ronaldo was player of the year. I think there is a very heavy EPL bias on these boards, though, which explains some of the opinions

Mexico was doing reasonably well running multiple defenders at Messi anytime he touched the ball. Of course that means they were often leaving the other strikers free.

Also, Mexico had a decent start (several good chances) and noticeably lost their composure after the goal that shouldn't have counted. Argentina still would have likely taken over the game, but Mexico completely fell apart at that point.

^ That's what I said to JT.

The refs don't allow that first goal, that second one doesn't happen. Refereeing mistakes change the entire demeanor of the game, and they only get more and more comical.
