yeah, the form factor on the Fascinate with the 4" screen is the best imo. Just went by Verizon and played around with the Thunderbolt and it felt really good in the hand. Had a solid, weight feel and wasn't too big.
Was rather unimpressed with the screen. SLCD doesn't have shit on the Super Amoled of the Fascinate.
The list of recently used apps in the pull down tray is retarded and would've been better to have the toggles up there like the Galaxy S line of phones. And I didn't realize how convenient just being able to slide my finger on the notification bar to increase/decrease brightness was on the Fascinate until I caught myself trying to do it on the Thunderbolt. Definitely a nice phone and super speedy though.3/17/2011 3:46:19 PM |

hey ptytllyl
If I root my G2 will I be able to use the FM tuner as an actual FM tuner? Like pick up local radio and shit? 3/17/2011 4:47:28 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148446 Posts user info edit post |
you should root your phone regardless, z4root is a good free app
takes like 5 minutes including rebooting and allows you to run a lot more apps
what is this built-in FM tuner you are referring to?
I use TuneIn Radio which is a free app, but I'm 99.9% sure it uses data to stream the feeds, even for local stations] 3/17/2011 4:51:17 PM |

I remember seeing it in the specs when I was looking to buy, now I can't find it.
Mentioned here when I google

No clue since I don't have a G2 and I'm on my phone and too lazy to go get my laptop to look. Look at xda-developers.com or androidcentral.com. Should be able to figure it how to root there and then you may be able to use rom manager from the market and flash another rom. 3/17/2011 5:59:10 PM |

I would trust you to root your phone with said number of beverages in your system
I would not trust you to install a custom ROM, which involves backing up all your current data, in such a state 3/17/2011 5:59:56 PM |

yeah rooting is one thing and unlocking nand + flashing custom recovery another. I consider myself tech savvy and I was still pretty nervous reading through everything mutltiple times before finally doing it.
This was with multiple adb commands and before Unrevoked had perfected their AIO stuff and I don't know if other one step processes have popped up since. 3/17/2011 6:40:13 PM |

I've tried to root my DX several times now using z4root and superoneclick and I can't get shit.
Who can do this, when, and how much? I'm sick of this shit and don't have the time to keep pissing around or catch back up on DX hacking. 3/18/2011 12:43:20 AM |

Reports on the Thunderbolt is that with 4g enabled battery life is under 4 hours of moderate usage, not even playing video.

Some people have reported that it seems to bounce between 3G and 4G which probably doesn't help. As for the link, I'm calling BS on the "moderate" usage considering the screen was on probably 70-80% of the time. The screen is the biggest draw so it's only common sense that using the device heavily is going to drain the batter. 2:45 of total awake time does seem to be a little low considering the Fascinate I have can make it through about 4.5 hours of continuous heavy use without the screen going off. Most days the screen is only on for about 1 1/2 hours or so. 3/18/2011 7:35:20 AM |

We’re talking about a 4.3? qHD 960 x 450 Autostereoscopic 3D display, 4GB of RAM, 1GB ROM, 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm 8660 Snapdragon CPU, dual rear 5 megapixel cameras with dedicated camera button, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and 1730mAh battery. That’s not all, though. The HTC EVO 3D will run Android Gingerbread 2.3 with HTC Sense UI and it will also output 1080p video via HDMI and output 720p 3D content as well. There will also be a Blockbuster 3D on demand app as well as YouTube 3D" |

so, i think i'll get a xoom wifi tab next weekend. part of me wants to wait for the lighter galaxy 10.1 tab, but who knows when that wifi version is out. maybe i should wait to see if the 3G/4G version of each is comparable in price... i'm guessing it will be.
fuck. dont know what to do... i played around with one, the weight is a bit awkward, but i think most of the time i'll be sitting with the thing resting on my gut or my lap.
i could always see how the ipad 2 feels, it's within 10 grams of the galaxy tab, soi guess it would be representative.
what should i do tww? 3/19/2011 3:36:46 AM |

yeah, I linked to it in the Angry Birds thread in chit chat. Kind of stupid that you have to input credit card info for a free app. It'll be going to .99 tomorrow so get it today. There are also adfree versions of the regular and seasons versions for .99. Or just root and install adfree from the market.
Also looks like tiered data for Verizon is close. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003179] 3/22/2011 9:00:18 AM |
