paerabol's question continued from last page:
Quote :
"Anyway, my actual quesion is -- where on your person do you carry and why?"

My G26 is closer to 4:00 or 5:00. Much easier to sit and conceal there than front or side. Also, I'd rather have it on my back so that in the event there's an accident, I shoot through my ass cheek instead of a testicle or artery.

also, i carry my CW9 somewhere around 4 or 5 o'clock in a crossbreed supertuck. it's great in the fall and winter, but when it's warm out it's just not that comfortable for me. i'd like to pick up something for pocket carry.

I'll either carry my XD9 sub compact or my kahr p9 in a crossbreed holster around 4:00 or my LCP in my front right pocket.

I carry around the 4:00 position because thats where it feels and conceals the best for me. I also have it canted as far forward as the CBST allows.

Make sure you get a good quality gun belt. It makes a difference.

You won't see it no matter what position I'm in. No other IWB carry option works for me. I'm one of a small percentage of people who carry this way (other than thugs). Most guys dont like it pointing at their junk. I keep it holstered while putting it on and taking it off, the gun cannot fire while holstered, and I don't put my finger on the trigger when I reholster so I don't know what the big deal is.
Carrying in the front is easier IMO to draw from a seated position than past 3:00.

I also pocket carry.

I carry either a Glock 17 or 1911 at 5'oclock IWB. I used to carry a Glock 36 but the wife hijacked it for her car. I carry whichever I come to first in the house.

Depends on which gun I am carrying -

the 442 : I pocket carry in a little neoprene style holster- just to keep stuff from getting in there and to prevent a plaxico situation

Taurus 24/7 : I have a crossbreed IWB holster that I like that sits on my right hip (maybe a little forward depending on the pants/shorts I'm wearing)

I prefer the 442 carry, just because it is literally unnoticeable to me... while the crossbreed is very subtle, there is no way I can say any IWB carry is completely "normal" feeling- but one way to get around that is to wear it a lot and it will start to feel normal... when I carried that thing 90% of the time, it didn't feel bad, just not normal to me. I also feel like if I needed to run for some reason, pocket carry would feel better than IWB. Then again, it also depends what kind of firepower you want... my 442 holds 5 in the chamber, and I usually carry a 5 round speed loader with me, so that is 5 rounds, reload, 5 more. With the 24/7, it is 17+1 and I can carry one magazine with me and up it to 18, reload, 17 more. I would like to think that 5 rounds (and a possible reload) will cover any potential bad situation I get in, but it might not. In some instances, I will actually carry both! Anyway, that's just mytwocents.

forgot to mention- I can draw and acquire a target faster from my crossbreed than my pocket, fwiw

I was at the Wake County Wildlife Club, It's not like a business with a range, it was just me.

And I had one staple in my staple gun as well, so the targets were all rigged with whatever I could find in the grass to hold them up.

And I took my 10/22 to sight in the new scope and forgot the magazine.

I've done better. But my bow is humming along just fine, so all was not lost.

so of course, right when the 2Q bonus check comes, one of my co workers sends me this link from palmetto state armory:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/2276.php

between that kit and a PSA lower receiver, I could have an AR with a 16" stainless barrel for $595 shipped.

and I was going to buy a glock with this money dammit

what to do?

I did some shooting last weekend. Got to fire the used 10/22 and pistol grip 20 ga Mossberg 500 that I bought a while back. The 10/22 jammed quite a few times until I got 40-50 rounds through it and then it seemed to shoot smoothly...All with the same magazine. I'm guessing I used too much oil when I cleaned it. Anything else I should be checking?

FYI: if you or anyone you know is in the charlotte area and interested in a Concealed Carry course today's groupon is for a class. Groupon price of $59 (regular $120). It's through a company called Practical Arms, which is the class I took and it was great.

love mine. light weight, carries well, easy to breakdown and clean up. I added a Hogue grip to make it a little more comfortable. definitely not an everyday shooter.

what kind of ammo were you shooting? i guess it could be too much oil. i usually just clean mine with CLP and wipe everything down and leave it at that. do you know how old it is or how much it was shot before you bought it? could've just never been broken in.

Looks pretty old and I have no idea how many rounds have been through it. Shooting mixed ammo, mostly Federal, that the guy gave me when I bought it. Most of this ammo looks at least 10+ years old.

Is there any risk associated with shooting old ammo? more specifically shotgun rounds? My dad has a ton of old shotgun rounds that he said I could have, but they are at least 20 years old. They have price tags from Brendle's for 4.99 a box, reduced to 2.99 on clearance. Im working on getting down my shooting before bird season comes in and wanted to go blow through a couple boxes.

My 10/22 will eat anything I've put in it...but I've radiused the rear of the bolt, headspaced the bolt, and smoothed out a couple of parts. I think some 10/22s may have excessive headspace. The headspace may be fine when clean but any little bit of crud on the bolt face or breech could move it out too far.

exactly. and, in my experience, there's a bunch of crud associated with that cheap ammo. i haven't really screwed around with mine yet, other than smoothing some surfaces and edges.

Article about NC ALE and their gun purchases:
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/02/07/2039969/costly-ale-guns-fail-get-traded.html

Apparently their Kimber pistols and Sig rifles needed to be replaced so that they could hand out open container tickets more efficiently.

anyone else on here have a membership with Front Sight?

I know, I know. at their marketing. But their actual classes are very good. I was just wondering if anyone else was grabbing up some lifetime memberships for friends or to sell with the deal they got going on right now? I'll be buying several more tomorrow or wednesday for some friends who want one.

Anyways, who is the guy on here who does CC classes in the Raleigh area? I just moved back to NC and need to take that so I can get back to carrying.

Off the top of my head I use a 52gr A-Max behind 25gr of Varget. I can shoot it 1/2MOA up to 300 yards. I don't remember the OAL or chrono numbers off the top of my head though.

What's a good place in Raleigh to purchase new guns? Most shops I'm finding online are located outside of Raleigh (Apex, Wendell, etc.). I didn't get into guns until I moved away from Raleigh and now that I'm back, I want to find a good shop around. I have a birthday coming up so I want to look around.

no one can tell you what is gonna shoot good in your rifle. just choose a quality bullet that is suited to your purpose and a powder with a good reputation for your caliber (like varget), follow your reloading manuals, start low and play around with it.

Something broke in my walther PPS today..

It is less than a year old...

Is it worth it to try and get warranty?

Where should I look for a replacement part if not warranty? There are a few local S&W dealers.

Is there a reason this piece would break?

What is this piece called?

is the piece plastic or metal? I know in my taurus, the stock guide rod is plastic, and if it ever broke, I would get an aftermarket made of metal. Just my 2 cents- and I'm sure you can find some for your gun online somewhere

I like that BT guiderods idea. I dont see anywhere else that produces a metal walther guiderod.

Walther wants me to mail my gun off to them.. Seeing as this is my only weapon, I dont like the idea of being without it for an extended period of time.

I cant seem to even find a local place that will sell me a replacement walther guiderod for the interim...

You get to attend GSSF shooting matches, some GLOCK magazine publications, and discount on one glock firearm per year though I'd rather go through galleryofguns and pay at most $50 more* and get a lifetime warranty.

* if you don't include the cost of GSSF membership, otherwise GoG pricing is about the same as GSSF pricing + membership.
