I figure for the size and price though, it will be fine for me. I actually plan on getting an in-dash stereo receiver in my truck this fall with a big screen. It comes with a seamless ipod interface connection that i've read and seen work flawlessly. So once that's in the classic will do little more than sit in my glove box.

until they find a way to bring touchscreen/flash in an affordable 100+ GB setup.

i killed the baseband in my phone stupid me and trying things out without thinking of the potential consequences

now to convince apple that "it just broke, i swear" (which shouldn't be too hard)

don't ask.

basically the part of the phone that controls the actual "phone" part is separate. it's called the "baseband" and is updated occasionally. it can not be un-updated after it's updated.

apparently evan brokes it

so apparently 3.1 is screwing with a lot of 3G models. Glad I didn't upgrade. I swear Apple keeps making models before the 3Gs harder to use with each update just so we'll upgrade. It's rubbing me the wrong way.

that would explain why i haven't had any issues. What sort of issues are people having with 3G? My dad just got a 3G for his company phone and I haven't updated it to 3.1 yet for him.

i upgraded my 3G and haven't had any problems that i've noticed

[Edited on September 17, 2009 at 12:06 PM. Reason : well, the upgrade itself crashed during installation, but once i got it working, it's been fine]

Yep, I have all kinds of weirdness.

Unlocking the phone hangs every 4th or 5th time for 10-20seconds. If I lose cellular signal, about 1/2 the time the only way I get connection back is to hard restart the phone. Whenever the onscreen keyboard pops up, I have to wait 5-10 seconds for it to become responsive (web, notes, text messages).

Well, you people do realize that the 3G is running on a dumpy little processor compared to the 3GS right?

Its like complaining that your 2004 imac with 512MB of RAM doesn't run Snow Leopard as zippy as a brand new top of the line 2009 model

^^ My 3G lags a lot more than it used to with the keyboard as well. It also seems to switch to landscape mode a lot more at the slightest tilt (when I dont want it to). Apple just wants everyone to upgrade equipment all the time.

yeah, mine has been lagging really bad on anything that brings up the keyboard and even when just try to swipe the main screen to move over to another screen of apps it usually takes a good 8-10 seconds to slide over

Anyone ever had a problem with the screen flaking out? When I turn on my iPhone the screen is white with black lines down the right side, then it changes to black with white lines. I've set up an appointment for the "genius" bar tomorrow at crabtree but was wondering if this is something I could fix on my own or am I fucked? The thing is.. Today is the last day of my warranty so hopefully they'll still cover it since all the "geniuses" were booked today.

Rhapsody on the iPhone. How did this happen? Isn't that a direct competitor to iTunes?

Rhapsody is awesome. It's like you don't even need any music on your iPhone anymore. Can just play any song/album you want. For like $15/month I believe.

^thats correct...except I've been reading some of the comments and some are saying that the audio quality is 64kbps? Is the audio really that bad? because most of the time the comments are from users that don't know wtf they're talking about.

Only have it on the computer. I'll have to check out the app. Pandora has an option to turn on high quality audio for 3g areas. I hope Rhapsody isn't that low.

So AT&T just rolled out their microcell website. so far there's no availability anywhere, but it shouldn't be long before they start taking orders. Supposedly NC is one of the first areas that will get them.

I get 2-3 bars when I step outside, but inside my house I'm lucky to get any signal at all, so I'm pretty much so gonna be one of the first in line when they become available. I just wonder the range these things have. My sister and her husband are planning on building a house across the street from me sometime next year, I wonder if it will be close enough for them to enjoy the extra signal.

Looks like Charlotte is the first, and so far only area that these are rolling out to right now. Rumored price is $150 for the tower and then $20 per month for unlimited calling, $10 if you have AT$T (typo, but it stays) internet service and free unlimited if you have AT&T internet and local calling. Hopefully there is no monthly plan if you don't care about unlimited calling.

I'm just going to say that I got a lot of flack for M$. But I don't think we have any AT&T employees here to get upset about it.

No, you are not. You have to either say MS or Microsoft. But M$ is forbidden. Everyones panties get in a wad.

I think the "problem" is when people do it because they think they're trying to be clever and original, when in reality it's very large amounts of neither.

Like I said, I did it on accident and decided to leave it on a whim. If you constantly refer to them as M$ and $ony on purpose it just becomes childish and stupid. hmm...kinda like saying pwn or posting lolcats actually.

It's just a screenshot. I actually thought about getting my brother-in-law to pick one up for me, but supposedly they have a GPS chip in them that only allows them to work in the areas that AT&T allows. And right now that's only Charlotte.

If the touchscreen no longer responds in the bottom half of the screen is it the digitizer that i should be replacing? (digitizer + glass sold together)

My friends iPhone can't slide to open anymore but you can use the ipod controls at the top half of the screen. Which pretty much means the phone is useless because you can't unlock it and you can't answer calls. I told her to try the apple store first and if they won't replace the phone that i will just replace the screen/digitizer. I'm assuming I won't be needing to replace the LCD since there is no damage on that.

if its not still under warranty, then they will not replace it ... or if your warranty has been killed by a drop of water on the litmus paper sensor thing inside the phone ... They will probably sell you a new one for 200 bucks though, without contract renewal and all that jazz.

You can get the lcd / digitizer online, but check with the apple store first, as they can at least confirm what the peice you need is, unless they are just trying to be an ass.

^i have a place online that i've ordered parts from before both for my macbook pro and iPhone. I'm just not 100% sure if its the digitizer that needs replacing or something else. So I guess i'll give the apple store a shot and see if 1) its not out of warranty and 2) she doesn't have any evidence of water damage. if both fail then i'll ask them what piece i need. hopefully that works haha.

Uh oh?

http://www.macrumors.com/2009/09/23/atandt-nervous-about-upcoming-iphone-mms-launch/

Quote :
"AT&T and its MMS partners are already seeing "record traffic during peak hours of the night" with just the users selected for testing.

That early testing has been a little rocky, with AT&T seeing a fairly significant test outage yesterday that has them rushing to beef up their MMSC messaging servers. Estimates among those working on the project are that traffic on AT&T's wireless network will be about 40% higher all day on Friday as iPhone users fire pictures and video at one another."
