I joined recently primarily because of the oxford match; only to find out that it was canceled after sending in my registration
So yeah.. we'll see if I renew... :/ I really wish there were more GSSF matches nearby.
I applied for the 1 year, so I didn't get the discount Glock coupon, but like I said that didn't matter to me so much. I really want to have fun and attend pistol matches. I may be getting a subcompact 9mm just because the recoil between a G26 and G27 is day and night; I have a significant increase in control with the 9mm over my current .40.

yeah, checking the schedules it looks like there isn't another match scheduled for the carolinas through Feb of next year. I might do it, for the same reason you did.. i'll probably wait til there's another match on the schedule around here though
i'm picking up my new gen3 26 tomorrow i might take it to the next silhouette match for shits and giggles.. there's not an indoor range for about 75 miles in any direction around here 8/28/2011 9:29:46 PM |

looking at ruger blackhawks in 30 carbine (i know weird but i have thousands of rounds).
found an old model (3-screw) at a pawn shop- best they will do is $450.
NIB you can have a 2-screw for about $430.
i know the old ones are much less safe? are 3-screws that collectable?
i read online the triggers feel better because of the lack of a transfer bar.
anyway, im leaning new. thanks in advance! 8/30/2011 5:47:51 PM |

Ballistol Lube. I was watching Hickock45's channel on youtube when he mentioned using this lube. I found this "review" online and wanted to know if anyone here uses it or has heard of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxjFEzvnxec 9/6/2011 12:44:14 AM |

I think that if you perform routine maintenance on your firearms, it doesn't matter what lube you use as long as it is designed for firearms. 9/6/2011 1:03:20 AM |

I wasn't looking at switching any time soon... I've got a case of CLP that'll probably hold me over for the next 5 years or so. I've heard about this lube twice today alone and wanted to know what all the hype was. Carry on... 9/6/2011 1:05:16 AM |

I totally agree with you. I took no offense. I guess other than being eco-friendly, I saw nothing "special" about it compared to CLP or most other lube/solvents. 9/6/2011 1:09:00 AM |

I don't know if I've posted this here, but my S&W 4506 was stolen a few weeks ago. While it is still sorely missed and one day I will replace it with another full-frame .45, my personal protection methodology has changed somewhat. Instead of keeping a cannon like that around for home protection, I've decided to go with a shotgun for the house and a compact for carry. I'm still toying around with a few different compact .40 models, but I know for sure that I'm picking up a Remington 870 here in a few days when my ID comes in the mail (wallet stolen also).
My question is, I want to fit the 870 with a pistol grip and some sort of tactical rail for a light. Most of the grip and forend packages are pretty cheap (on the order of $20-40), even the Hogues, should I just pick one or do you get what you pay for? Do the magazine-clamp rails work well, or the picatinny forend rails? What about pistol-grip forends? Any other useful accessories I should look into?
I haven't been in the shotgun game since I used to go dove-hunting with pops almost 10 years ago, and those were hunting models. Shoot me some ideas por favor 9/6/2011 11:22:25 PM |
NeuseRvrRat hello Mr. NSA! 35376 Posts user info edit post |
as i've said on here plenty of times, i would keep the thing looking as much like a hunting shotgun as possible. remember, a jury of your peers may be looking at it one day as a prosecutor attempts to portray you as a crazy trigger-happy gun nut and your peers are, on average, idiots, especially when it comes to firearms.
i'd keep the pistol grips and lights and all that tactical bullshit off it. i keep my camo mossberg 835 loaded with 3" 00 buckshot. doubles as a hunting shotgun. not much difference in drawing a bead on a turkey's head and a man's chest i guess.
[Edited on September 7, 2011 at 4:58 AM. Reason : 26" barrel on my 835]
[Edited on September 7, 2011 at 5:01 AM. Reason : there's a mossberg persuader for sale in the used gun thread that would work well] 9/7/2011 4:56:58 AM |

my grandfather had an 870 with a pistol grip and laser sight, he used it for blowing away armadillos that were tearing up his garden. this wouldn't even be an issue if an asshole ex-uncle hadn't taken all his guns when he died and then divorced my aunt never to be seen again
that's not so much a relevant response as it is a funny anecdote. Picture a lanky 6'3" man of 80 years hobbling out to his garden to dispatch them damned armadillers with a pistol-grip pump and laser
while your point is valid, i was thinking of going with that combo full-stock + pistol grip style stock anyway. Probably put a breacher barrel on it too with a rail and an ammo sling and call it a day

that's mine, except I have taken the light off- the mount didn't like the shock of shooting 3inch steel loads
I'm thinking of selling it though- or at least replacing it with a 20gauge youth size semi automatic shotgun. I've mentioned it before, I'm worried since I don't have time to really practice shooting it much that I might forget to load a new shell after I fire in a high pressure situation. Also, they take away some of the recoil and that combined with a smaller load (2.75" 20gauge) might make it shootable for piddlebug

given that 25 rds will hopefully be all you ever have to buy, $20 sounds good to me. i'd shoot a few full mags and make sure my shotgun shoots it ok, then keep it ready to go loaded with that. practice with cheap birdshot. 9/12/2011 5:58:45 PM |

Some Walmarts carry Remington reduced recoil 8 pellet 00. If you can find it then its the best deal in low recoil stuff. Luckily I stocked up when it was only $2 a box.

Anyone been out to North Raleigh Guns off Westgate rd. yet? Place packs a lot of cool firepower in a small place, definitely check it out if you haven't. Ended up buying a Romanian AK from them at a good price, came with a leather strap and bayonet too. The stock is mostly hollow. If you cut it down, then you will have to buy a slip over end cover or be creative to cap the end. The current pad won't be able to be screwed back into place. A lot of people get the hogue overmold 12"LOP stock, and then a 1" limb-saver pad to bring it to 13" LOP. The factory length is 14". I have found that the 12" stock is really to short unless you are a small person, have proportionally short arms, or are wearing a ton of layers. 9/13/2011 5:53:24 PM |
