i just cringe at the fact at how much better we could have been with painter still with us. probably could have at eliminiated 1 or 2 of the bonehead acc losses we've sustained.

Losing Painter definitely hurt, but the rest don't really bother me. Opens up scholarships for potential studs. I still think our lineup is fine for the NCAA tournament as long we can stay at full strength.

7 man rotation is fine for tourney, we just have to be careful not to blow out the legs during the ACC tourney. Means we need to be solidly in place for NCAAs by the end of this month. If we can win 3 of the next 4 we'll be in good shape.

People on PP saying that he was suspended from school too. Since when do you get suspended from college for a DUI? Or is it because he's a student athlete?

I can't blame Staats I just watch NC State basketball games and it drives me to drink. He has to live it. Today is a good example. 39 mins of wtf we are going to lose to the worst team.

And it's been so long since we've been on the right end of a last second play I didn't even know what to do.

Student Conduct likely found out about the DWI b/c it was made public knowledge via WRAL and they had to act.

That's gotta be a student athlete rule. If not, then I'm glad they didn't do it 10 years ago.

Right now we are a 5 seed but we should be able to make it through the easy schedule remaining with no more than 1 more loss.

jerry palm had us as a 7 seed. i fail to see how a win against clemson and loss to duke would bounce us to a 5 seed.

A 5 seed would suggest we were a top 20 team, which no one thinks we are.

RPI isn't the sole determing factor for seeding.

Wins/losses matter a lot too. RPI is only 25% comprised of your record and as treetwista noted doesn't factor in future wins/losses either.

think about our stats last year. we had only one "quality" win. and that was over texas on a 28-2 run. until we beat miami, we were NIT bound (and that miami win was our last reg season game).

^^^ played vt after miami but the rest is correct yes. but we also had a good ACC-t win vs UVA and a quality loss off a bad call to UNC that got a lot of attention.

This is the first time in a long time that we're a "should be" team without having to make a strong ACCT run. But if these guys do pick it up in the tournament then we could see a strong rise. Right now I think we're between 7-9 seed but if we make it to the ACC championship game I think we go to 5 or 6.

This "bye" week is going to help us as you know the guys are tired and Brown needs more time to get to 100%. Next two are very winnable although Green will probably drop 40 on us in the VT game and FSU plays ugly which means that game will be an abortion if we get stuck in a half court game.

Crazy that we could finish out 8-0 or just as easily go 4-4. Please God give us an 8-0 finish!

If Gott uses Lewis to go small, we may be a more high powered offense near the end of the game. The biggest factors of going small are:
-Some "Rotation" Rest for Zo, CJL, Howell.
-Mitigating foul trouble for CJL, Howell.
-Mitigating turnovers with Lewis controlling half court.
-Open up the pick and roll 3 point game with Purvis, Zo, Lewis, Wood!
-Generally, continue to hussle into the second half.

It's not perfect, but we can make a 7-man rotation work. We MUST have Gott on point with substitutions for this to work. If CJL, Purvis, or Warren plays selfishly or Stupidly, rotate them out ASAP.

When guys have to sit down for making bad/selfish plays, they learn. When you start everyone player every game, regardless of their play, they will learn nothing. Obviously, we would do this at a very limited capacity, but at least it's more feasible with a 7 man rotation.

Only play Vandy when CJL, Howell are on the bench with foul trouble. Which, in theory, should happen less if Gott SUBS them out BEFORE they lose their heads.

ONLY SUB THEM OUT WHEN THEY'RE IN FOUL TROUBLE. KEEP THEM OUT OF FOUL TROUBLE BY SUBBING THEM OUT BEFORE THEY GET INTO FOUL TROUBLE.

You guys have no idea how to coach a basketball team, just cut it out with the bullshit "Gott has to do this to be successful posts."

You go become a successful division 1 NCAA basketball coach and then you can come back and spout your opinions about what Gott needs to do in order to be successful.

I never said sub them out only when they are in foul trouble. Re-read.

This can work. I was right about Lewis when others on this board said he was worthless.

To those of you who love Painter, consider this --

Would Howell develop into his dominant role if Painter is on the team?

"36th" in the AP (from "27th" last week), after going 1-1 with a loss in Cameron...

not receiving any votes, ie worse than "44th" in the Coaches (from "31st" last week)

I didn't expect to be ranked or anything, but I didn't expect to drop 10-15 spots either

That clearly says only play Vandy in a certain situation.

My entire point was going small. Try again.

Sub our bigs out with who before they get into foul trouble? You can't just go bigless or you're going to get posterized by other team's with big men on the inside.

agreed. Here's what Seth Davis had to say...he voted us at #21:

Quote :
"I also thought about dropping N.C. State off my ballot after the Pack was embarrassed at Duke and then came close to losing at Clemson. But a win is a win -- especially on the road. Plus, the Pack got Lorenzo Brown back, so you have to expect they will play better in coming weeks."

i tend to agree with him, except the "embarrassed" part. at no point were we legitimately in that game but i don't know that losing to a top 5 team shooting lights out while missing our offensive leader is all that embarrassing.

I will say we had a tough early ACC schedule and we've played one extra league game to this point than 75% of the league (We're the only team in the top 6 with 11 league games at this point).

Now if we can just not fuck up this easy back half of the schedule we'll be okay.
