Jerryd Bayless did it to Arizona (he was a top 10 player the same year as OJ Mayor), If you would like something more recent, Xavier Thames did it this year to Washington State. I bet Jaybee1200 would vouch for this happening. If I remember correctly David Oku (football) was a commit-decommit-commit for UT. He was a top 100 player in 09.

So wait, this WWW dude takes highschool kids to nice dinners, helps them meet celebrities, etc., etc. (all things that would be major recruiting violations if a coach did it) then pretty clearly steers them to the school of choice in Memphis (now Kentucky, I am sure) and noone in the NCAA has a problem with it?

That is pretty fucked up.

I stand corrected...it still seems like that's the exception rather than the rule though. Plus both of those happened because of coaching changes if I'm not mistaken, so the situations are somewhat different from ours.

We saw WWW at a Bobcats game last year

They were playing Cleveland and Davidson had just been beaten by Kansas in the Elite 8

So pregame LBJ, Curry and some random black guy are all talking

My buddy and I are trying to figure out who this guy is

We have pretty good seats, like 20 feet away from them

and we see this guy introduce Curry to Nelly

Finally one of the ushers tell us who it is and we're all like "Ohhhh"

"Also, after quoting a portion of the previously mentioned Andy Katz interview/article that had Sidney saying "We've got a great opportunity now and we're moving in the right direction," the Star News had this to say:

"That's an interesting comment for a coach who just lost his top three scorers and two best rebounders from the previous season.

But when those players comprised the nucleus of a team that never completely fulfilled its potential - or qualified for the NCAA Tournament - maybe it's not so bad to clean house and start over fresh.

Especially when for the first time in his career, he'll finally be coaching a team made up almost entirely of his own recruits."

Thanks for the article Star News! We appreciate the objective article. "

Not for nothing, but the nucleus of that team actually did qualify for a NCAA tournament... thought they obviously weren't a focal point of that team.

Still amazing to me that those two awesome recruiting classes that we had ('04 and '05) we basically did nothing to capitalize on... man, I thought we were really back then.

That "article" from the Star News wasn't an article, it was a column. Really, it was a blog post, which, as Wolfpack Hoops should know, is in no way required to be objective.

Wolfpack Hoops fails again.

It's not semantics and I'm not trying earn any cool points.

They're pissed because a guy wrote a blog with a subjective slant.

Articles and columns are two entirely different concepts. Had they known that they probably wouldn't have posted their little pity party to begin with.

yeah, the point I was trying to make was that rarely do you see a recruit decommit and then re-commit when it's the same coaching staff.

Disclaimer: I am a State alum who has read this board for several years but never posted. So if my lack of posts discredits me from Sports Talk feel free to bash away.

A friend who is a big Kentucky follower let me know that Eric Beldsoe committed to KU (over Memphis) this morning. Should be interesting to see how this effects Wall's decision - if at all. Bledsoe has commented that the 2 of them could play together.

Just thought this might be of interest to a few of you.

Well Nelly is one of the owners of the Bobcats and comes to a few games a year, when he gets the chance, much like how Usher is an owner of the Cavaliers and is seen at a few of their games each year. Curry would have probably been introduced to Nelly even if WWW hadn't been there.

somebody on wolfpackhoops posted an anonymous message that john wall was going to be commiting in the next 48-72 hrs. i would normally disregard it, but wolfpackhoops commented on it and allowed it to stay posted.

If anybody puts any stock in the "Wall to commit to State"-comment, they're a moron.

And does it hurt WPH credibility just b/c they allowed it to be posted? Really? And there's still hostlity about them saying that some inside folks "felt good" about Cousins? Sheesh, some of you guys...

there's no hostility, I was just pointing out that the last time their sources "felt good" about a recruit it didn't work out too well did it? Which is why I'm less likely to believe any rumors/"inside info" they post now and in the future.

What didn't work out? They didn't say he was going to commit. They said they "felt good about our chances". Because he commited somewhere else doesn't negate that statement. I know this has been repeated over and over, but i just don't get it.

But you're wise not to beleive any "inside sources" or rumors. With these "blue-chip players", until a LOI is signed, it's all speculation. I'm sorry if you took the statement about Cousins as meaning that he was definitely coming to NCState, but you should have known to take that with a grain of salt.

And Wolfpackhooops didn't post the recent Wall rumor, and "Anonymous" poster did. Although I'm not sure why WPH allowed it to be posted.

it doesn't negate it but it certainly doesn't enhance their credibility when not only does Cousins not commit to State he commits to Memphis, then when Cal leaves he quickly decommits from Memphis and subsequently commits to UK. That chain of events makes it obvious to me that we were never really in the running for Cousins, and whoever said they "felt good about our chances" either didn't know what they were talking about or is delusional.

Hmm, i don't see it that way. He could have really been leaning to State. Then Calipari threw something at him, so he committed to Memphis. Then Calipari left Memphis and went to Kentucky. Since Calipari is the one who threw something at Cousins, of course Cousins followed him to Kentucky. I'm not sure how that chain of events makes it obvious to you NCState was never in the running. Your way of thining doesn't seem very logical to me.

Bunch of fucking idiots in this thread.

John Wall isn't coming to NC State.

End of Story.

Our fortune as a team won't change with new players, it will come with a new Athletic Director.

When we get rid of the good ol' boy Fowler and bring in someone who is worth a fuck, the premier coaches (and obviously players) will follow suit. No offense to Lowe, but he's using his NBA experience as a selling point of NC State, not the university itself. That's exactly the reason why J.J. Hickson came to NC State. Not because he believed in NCSU, but b/c he wanted to use Lowe for his own success.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the long term effects of John Wall coming here wouldn't be that beneficial. In fact, it would likely perpetuate the problem by making the wrong people think they are doing the right things.

Here's to acknowledging the truth....Wall ain't coming here boys. Sorry.

we'll never really know what went on behind the scenes in his recruitment, but it seems to me that if he was really interested in State then he wouldn't have committed to Kentucky less than a week after Cal left Memphis. That timeframe makes it seems like he was going wherever Cal was going regardless of what we were doing recruiting-wise, which in turn means we never had a shot. Plus didn't Cousins demand a clause in his LOI that if Cal left Memphis he would be released from it?

ugh, that anonymous tip was posted on packpride too. So now its on 3 different state websites. Why not just leave the comment on wolfpackhoops? it was posted by "anonymous" i mean seriously?!?! Someone is just trying to mess with us, and by spreading that little rumor around it's doing more harm than good. people are going to get their hopes up and start talking about this kid even more then they already are.

Until it comes from an actual credible source we shouldn't even be mentioning it.

I'm more excited about news on painter at this point. If he can qualify for 2009 then he'd be a great way to close out this recruiting class.
