^^^agreed. There's still a reasonable chance that we can finish 3rd in the ACC. If we can turn a corner and take care of business down the stretch, even if we were to lose to UNC, we should still finish top 4 and get a bye in the ACCT. But you never know with ACC basketball.

Deshawn Painter was a big loss for this team. He was a great option coming off the bench and would have basically kept Vandy off the court.

it sucks even more that he left for family reasons and now he is on an absolutely terrible ODU team. they are 314 out of 347 in rpi. he is their leading scorer though

Yep Painter leaving was a bad omen for this team. No way we lose the WF game with Painter on the court instead of Vandy.

As for the ranking stuff, clearly a lot of the writers only saw the first half of the Duke game and maybe caught Wood's miracle shot so they are thinking "man this team sucks now" instead of realizing that Clemson is 3x better at home than on the road and if not for FTs, we'd have come all the way back against Fluke.

Oh well who gives a shit really. Just need to take care of business the next 7 games as we have no one to blame but ourselves for being 6-5 in the ACC right now.

but seriously guys, we don't deserve to be ranked.

if we keep winning and play better basketball we should break the top 25 in the next few weeks, but top 25 teams do not lose 5 out of the last 8 games they play and stay ranked

i don't think anyone is arguing that we should be ranked, just making the point that dropping from 27 to 36 doesn't make much sense

Painter left for playing time after CJL announced he was staying. The family excuse is what kept him from having to sit out a year.

I guess he wanted a chance to showcase himself. Instead what it's done is shown his limitations. He would've been much better off sticking around here another year.

To be fair, two of those loses were to the #2 and #3 team in the country. And the loss to UVA was almost entirely because Zo went down.

Still, the lost to WFU was inexcusible. Loss to UMD was almost just as bad.

before their 3-game skid, they were 19-1 and #2 in the nation

and Oklahoma State was their first loss, so that is kind of good for us

I mean if we're still making excuses for our losses, Duke ALMOST lost to Wake on the road, so that sorta makes our loss less bad.

And Maryland barely lost to UK who is now ranked ahead of us. Plus they always seem to have our number for whatever reason.

And OKSU was totally underrated when we played them and we really didn't think we'd have to try as hard.

And we played Michigan really well and got hosed towards the end of the game, plus it was on the road.

See how this works?

Votes received: NCSU -1

Seriously though, I know it's kind of dumb to not want to be ranked, but I feel more comfortable that the team will respond and play better when they feel like they have something to prove down the stretch

Problem is that the team eventually needs to learn how to play when ranked. You got to have that swagger.

Vandy played his best game ever against Wake (only good game probably), don't think he was the reason we lost that game.

I might agree with you if it weren't for the fact that EVERY team shoots "lights out" against us. Duke going apeshit on us from 3 wasn't an aberration: it was Duke exposing a bad team. THAT is why it is accurate to say that we got embarrassed.

There's only one reason that we didn't lose by 40: Duke did this:

Duke ALMOST lost to Boston College on the road. At this point it is fair to say that any ACC team can lose to any other on the road. That makes winning a close one at Clemson worth more and losing close at Wake, UVA, and Maryland not seem like the end of the world.

Our only ACC home loss is to Miami, which now also isn't a big deal. Especially since apparently it is easier to beat Duke than it is to beat Miami.

On a neutral court against ACC opponents I think we'll do just fine, which bodes well for the conference tournament.

Actually it was considering we're the 2nd best 3 point % defensive team in the ACC. But don't let that stop you from being ignorant.

I thought we played hard in the 2nd half and made it a game. Especially considering we were without one of our best players. Only a insufferable faggot (or a Duke fan - but I'm repeating myself...) would think Duke choked.

We lost one game early on. I'm talking about making a run against other ACC teams, and we'll be in-state.

Well, I don't think that it can be said enough how much that Miami L stings. It would have been a great win and we had that shit with 2 sec in the game.

you're right burro, lots of teams this year have hit 10 three pointers on us in the first half and gotten up 20-5 on us or whatever

not an aberration at all!

Miami loss really does blow. That game and the Wake Forest game would have ultimately netted us 2-3 spots in the NCAA seedings.

It's alright though, I don't mind being a #6 seed in the tournament if we can get it that's a pretty sweet spot as far as I'm concerned. I hate being an 8/9 obviously, and the 4/5 is a more likely sweet 16 but with a less likely elite 8/final 4 appearance.

The further away you can get from the #1 seed in your region the more time they have to be upset before you meet them.

End of Season prediction---- NC State is going to win 6 of the next 7 games to close out conference play finishing 12/6. Their only loss will be to North Carolina by less than 5. 10+ win at Florida state to finish season.

We are good enough to go 7-0 over the next 7, but most people are guessing 6-1. The problem is this is nc state and we will go 4-3 with a combined loss total of 2.5 points.

With the Clemson win I still think 11-7 is the best we do with loses coming at UNC and either at GT or at FSU because lets face it thats how this season has gone. I'll be very happy at 12-6 as thats about what I expected to start the season. I still wouldnt be surprised to see us end at 10-8 though unfortunately.

There's just no way I can envision us winning at Carolina. Best case scenario would be 12-6 IMO. Likely 11-7. 10-8 wouldn't surprise me either.

Quote :
"2. Last-possession no-calls: It’s ironic that John Clougherty is the ACC’s director of officials, since he is best known for calling a foul in the final seconds of an overtime national championship game. Apparently, his current officials haven’t grasped the concept that if it’s a foul in the first 39 minutes, 55 seconds of a game, it’s still a foul in the final five seconds. Last week, they allowed Miami’s Reggie Johnson to shove N.C. State’s Richard Howell out of the way for the game-winning tip-in. Tuesday, they swallowed their whistles again as FSU’s Michael Snaer clearly shoved Georgia Tech’s Mfon Udofia out of the way to set up his winning drive at the buzzer. So much for letting the players decide the game."

Quinn Cook's 2-handed shove / undercut clearing 2 players out of the way at the end of the game Sunday was the most blatant no- call I've seen.

That shit was bananas.

Actually...the mostly blatant was Snaer doing the Austin Rivers Shuffle before he took off for the game winning drive. There were AT LEAST six steps taken in front of everyone. Fucking ridiculous.

Howell should start body-slamming guys under the basket on last-second shots / tip-in opportunities, since it's so obvious the refs won't blow the whistle.

I ran into Purvis outside Reynolds yesterday. I said, "Hey Rodney, good game yesterday!" while smiling and giving a thumbs-up. He responded with a nice thank you. As I walked away, I remembered that he was held scoreless, d'oh! I said it genuinely so I don't think he took me as being sarcastic, but I felt pretty dumb afterwards.

I just watched the Snaer finish. That was awful. The shuffling of the feet on the travel was blatant, and the forearm to the chest was just as bad. I guess the officials just have the attitude of let them play...but I'd be super pissed if I were on Georgia Tech.
