That's true for his true believers, but they're a minority. I mean, they're a meaningful minority--what, maybe 15-20% or something? There is nothing he can do to lose them. If there was, they wouldn't have voted for him to begin with.

Then there is another group, who might not like him, but will vote for him no matter what, just to oppose the Democrats. There's probably nothing he can do to lose them. My guess is that this, in as far as it's distinct from the first group, is also pretty small...10-15%, maybe? They're not in play in terms of voting Dom, but maybe a small sliver of this group will stay home and just not vote, or vote 3rd party, or whatever.

Then you have another group of supporters, who don't really like him, but might vote for him depending on how things are going and who runs against him. These people are in play. If the economy craters, a number of them will jump ship. A few of these probably already have buyer's remorse, although I fear they could be balanced out by those who didn't vote for him last time, but now think "Well, he's still the biggest fuckstick imaginable, but my 401k is up and unemployment is really low."


There is nothing you can do about "Trump lifers." They are as ironclad in their support as any political base I've ever seen. You also don't need to do anything about them, and we've see his support dwindle to about 1/3 of the population, so more than enough people can be peeled off to render a Mondale-like defeat, total political destruction. However, now he's back up in the low 40s...and isn't that about where he got elected at the first time?

To be clear, my previous comments regarding the staging of that photo of the kid in the cage in no way shape or form supports what is going on, and I've never made an argument for Nielsen or Trump and their actions/behavior/policy. I was just pointing out that I thought the press was acting in a shitty way. Perhaps there were other pictures that were not staged. If that is the case then I stand corrected.

From what little bit of news I was able to listen to today though, it sounds like we might be moving in the right direction?

Production prices with the biggest YoY rise since 2011. Some of this is due to raising rates and the business cycle but it will surely be exasperated by the trade policy Trump is hellbent on implementing.

It’s going to be interesting to see how he handles a potentially inverting curve and looming recession should the Fed keep raising rates as pressure on inflation continues. I’m guessing he’ll just yell at the Fed like a carnival barker.
