"yes because those guys were such major contributors this year we can't live without them "

my post has nothing to do with the caliber of players we are losing, just the fact that we are losing players.. and to say that losing Costner next year as a 5th year senior as the leading scorer of our team is nothing to scoff at. Losing T. Ferg maybe... losing possibly Degand and now a recruit decommitting to me is indicative of a much larger problem. I hate to be so harsh, but pull your head out of your ass. It's like Lowe can do no wrong in your eyes.

Yes, I have been pwnt. After all this time I now realize that Lowe should have been fired after last season. He's really a terrible basketball coach, and really, he's a shitty human being on top of that. He lost to fucking davidson this year for the love of god and he can't even keep players on the team who are lazy and don't contribute. In addition, he's offering scholarships to no-names who I've never seen play and they're not ranked high, so they must suck which just shows you how bad of a coach he is. Really, I can't think of how much worse of a situation our basketball program could be in so we may as well end the circus and start from scratch. We don't need this shitty recruiting class with only 2 top 50 players and a guy who got snubbed from the McDonalds all american game. I mean, he barely won player of the year in the best conference in georgia. The other guy fucking choked in the state championship game in indiana. What a bunch of clowns we have running this program, bringing in clowns to play basketball for us. I'm sick of this bullshit. OhBoyeee was right all along. I think I'm going to go pull for UNC. At least they can recruit and they wear a nice color of blue.

i guarantee an NBA team would love to have him back on their bench

he was obviously a good assistant. maybe head coaching just isn't his calling

i'll reserve judgement for another 3-5 years though

you could be right, but look at someone like tim floyd...bad nba track record, give him a few years in college, he has his shit together...thats the upside i can see...i can actually see more of an upside with this conference, but thats an example...pete carroll sucked in the nfl but he's arguably the best college coach in the country

I kinda have a problem with this. If he doesn't do a good job, then it should not matter who he is to the university. We had no problem with Chuck being fired once he proved incompetent and it should be the same for Lowe.

I think Lowe is going to be the best ever. He is a champion and NBA coaching genius. He knows what it take to be #1. Nelly says that 2 is not for winners and 3 nobody remembers and I think Lowe knows this. I predict 2 NC's, 5 Final Fours, 10 ACC championships from 2010-2020. I BELIEVE.

lolwhat?

Floyd was a VERY successful college head coach at U of New Orleans and more importantly Iowa State before ever going to the NBA... it wasn't like he was hired as some rook to the college game after the Bulls debacle.

at least at UNC they are kicking out underperforming players for big time recruits, we lost a McDonald's All American and another dude (not sure what Fergie's recruiting ranking was) and all we got was a 2 star "late bloomer"

and iirc most people were riding his jock after his first season ending in the acc tourney final/nit performance.

that jock riding really tailed off quickly (with the exception of a few who have permanent nc state red blinders on).

from the N&O:
Costner's exit will hurt Wolfpack
Quote :
"

After Brandon Costner slumped at the end of last season, some N.C. State fans hinted that the team might have been better without him if he didn’t return as a senior.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Losing its leading scorer in addition to seniors Ben McCauley and Courtney Fells was a significant blow for a team that finished 16-14, and 6-10 in the ACC.

When you look at the roster the Wolfpack has returning, it’s impossible to deduce that the team will be better off without Costner and reserve guard Trevor Ferguson, who also is leaving.

In the frontcourt, Tracy Smith is developing into a strong low-post scorer and Dennis Horner demonstrated promise at the end of last season.

But N.C. State will be counting on freshman Richard Howell to add depth as three players rotate in the two post positions. That’s just enough talent to get by, but still one injury away from a crisis.

At point guard and the wings, though, N.C. State won’t have anybody who’s averaged more than seven points a game in a college season.

Sophomores C.J. Williams and Johnny Thomas will have to play small forward, perhaps with help from Howell. Athens Drive’s Josh Davis, who committed to N.C. State on Monday, might take a year or two to develop into a contributor in ACC play.

At point guard N.C. State will have the same players (Javi Gonzalez, Farnold Degand, Julius Mays) who struggled in 2007-08.

Lorenzo Brown of Roswell, Ga., the top recruit in the Wolfpack’s class, might play both point guard and shooting guard. And freshman Scott Wood could get into the rotation at shooting guard, where Williams might also be a factor.

As a whole, this roster will not scare North Carolina when it gets off the bus next season at the Smith Center. Against the rest of the ACC, N.C. State might hold up OK because there is a lot of backcourt talent leaving from the traditional middle-of-the-pack schools.

Toney Douglas, Tyrese Rice and Jack McClinton all were seniors, and Maryland’s Greivis Vasquez has already announced his intention to test the NBA waters.

But hoping the competition falls back to N.C. State’s level is not a where the Wolfpack hoped to be in Sidney Lowe’s fourth season.

Coach Sidney Lowe’s incoming recruiting class might turn out to be his best yet. But the members of his past classes will be sophomores and juniors next season comprising the bulk of N.C. State’s roster.

Lowe’s initial difficulties gaining a foothold as a recruiter after coming to N.C. State from the NBA look like they will come home to roost next season.

I find it funny that anyone attempting to point out the glaring problems with our program right now and they get called a troll or asking for said user to be suspended or being called childish or, get this, not knowing shit about basketball.

Glaring problems with our program right now
- 10th place ACC finish year #1
- 12th place ACC finish year #2 (with #19 draft pick NBA center on roster)
- 10th place ACC finish year #3
- absolutely zero optimism from most fans about year #4
- Recruits decommitting
- Current players opting to not finish their eligibility
- Offering a scholarship to a potential walk-on

It's just too damned bad I had no clue how basketball works and this is par for the course.
