Learned that you can buy a $250 Barnes and Noble Nook and root it to put on Honeycomb, essentially making a cheap ass wifi Xoom 4/24/2011 10:04:34 PM |

^I did this. It's pretty stable. I'm running Honeycomb off an SD card and have the regular Nook operating system. It's pretty good. If you decide to do it let me know. I highly recommend it. 4/24/2011 11:53:00 PM |

^ This makes the most sense. But I still don't understand the purpose of tablets. You can't do any word processing. Why not just use the Moto Atrix style phone w/ the laptop dock? That fulfills any purpose you could want with a tablet. 4/25/2011 10:52:55 AM |

I travel a lot, so the tablet/e-reader in the Nook Color is great for planes. It has enough battery life to last me the whole flight (regardless of if it's cross country or not) and I can deal with people reclining their seat a lot better than with a laptop. I'm not using it as a replacement, but more as an add-on to my laptop. I can read PDFs/presentations that I need for my job as well as emails and play games. Eliminating books and magazines in my laptop bag was a huge plus too, as that just reduces the weight/wasted space. 4/25/2011 10:59:59 AM |

I really do love my Xoom but I'm really disappointed with its inability to handle written notes using a stylus. I like the HTC Flyer for its pressure-sensitive screen and special stylus designed for handwriting, but probably wouldn't switch because of its single core processor and lack of Honeycomb.
As soon as a dual-core, 10-inch tablet, with 1080 playback, Honeycomb out of the box and handwriting support hits the market, I'm making the switch. 4/25/2011 11:55:37 AM |

Does anyone use Go SMS Pro?
I like it, BUT it's sending text message(s) to myself everytime I get a voicemail, like the voicemail notification isn't enough, Go SMS feels like it needs to send me a text letting me know too.
Has anyone figured how to turn that off? 4/26/2011 10:08:29 AM |

Anyone have any fixes or suggestions for fixing the voice commands on the Droid X? I've loved the phone the entire time I have had it. My only real complaint after having it for 9 months or so is that whenever I launch the voice commands prompt it takes about 15 seconds or so before it actually prompts me to "say a command" or actually registers my command. Once that comes up it has always been amazingly accurate and does exactly what I ask but the wait has just always been so annoying that I rarely use the feature.
It's pretty much always been this way and I just wasn't sure if this was common or what. 4/26/2011 11:34:47 AM |

So my Thunderbolt has been stuck in 1x mode all day and I thought it was broken. But apparently Verizon is having some issue where 4g phones drop down to 1x speed. Pretty lame... If this happened to the iPhone there'd be at least 6 articles in the NY Times by now. 4/27/2011 9:42:21 PM |

I'd say so. I consider myself a heavier-than-average user and have only used a little over 5 GB since September. I've moved away from listening to Pandora all day, though, and that probably makes a huge difference. 4/28/2011 9:02:09 AM |

Yeah I'd guess that is in the highest % tier. I'm on my phone a lot (wikipedia, wordfeud, youtube, some Pandora at work, read all my blogs there) and I average ~700MB a month. I do utilize wifi at home though.4/28/2011 11:05:29 AM |

^^If you have windows 7, hit the winkey and type 'change what'. The second option down will be what closing the lid does. If you choose "do nothing" while plugged in then teamviewer should work while it's closed. 4/28/2011 1:46:45 PM |

When I took my Verizon Samsung Fascinate off its charger this morning it was in safe mode. I turned it off and then back on and it came up normally. The wallpaper was reset to default and all my app icons has rearranged themselves. Nothing seems to be wrong with the phone. Other than the annoyance of rearranging all my app icons it didn't seem to be a big deal. Nevertheless, I'd like to know why the phone went into safe mode just in case it's a symptom of a problem I'm not yet aware of. 4/28/2011 1:54:34 PM |

Any of you that are concerned about the location cache issues--there is an app available where you can view/clear/prevent the cache from being created. Root is required.

I use my phone a lot for web browsing. Is it wrong to assume that I am using the same amount of data when looking at a webpage on the phone (say tww for example) vs. tethering to my laptop looking at the same webpage? I normally use pdanet or barnicle wifi tether when it is hooked to the laptop. 4/28/2011 6:06:35 PM |

Yes, well....sometimes. Remember that the phone is going to render a mobile version of the page when available. Couple that with flash and other technologies and there may be a page size difference.4/29/2011 1:42:56 AM |

I just took the time to put it on mine. I thought I bricked my phone for a while, SBF kept failing at BP pass through and then I realized the phone wasn't getting reconnected to the winxp VM after the reboot. It's pretty awesome. 5/1/2011 5:20:55 PM |

Just put the deodexed version of 4.5.591 on my phone a little bit ago. Didn't have to wipe anything. Did have to rerun Gingerbreak and Busybox though.
I have no idea what the difference is between 588 and 591 but I was going to put the deodexed version of 588 on my phone so I figured I might as well try 591.
I've only been running gingerbread for a day but it's way more stable than what I was using before and significantly faster. Also looks good without any modification.
I'm going to wait for the DX3 and 4g, unless Motorola keeps locking down the bootloader and then I'm going to find something completely unlocked. Fuck having to SBF my phone every time I want to change "roms". 5/2/2011 12:40:58 PM |
