Empire is a mirror of partypoker but their tourney's are totally different...when i switched back to empire I couldn't use my partypoker account, so you will probably have to sign up for a new account with empire, but transferring your money shouldn't be a problem

So, how much better would you say Empire is than PartyPoker?

I play SnG's almost exclusively, with an occassional entry into a multi-table, so it sounds like it might be a good fit for me.

As far as the setup of the sight you aren't gonna find any difference. I just found that Empire tends to have better promotions and freerolls. The only thing that Empire doesn't have is the bad beat jackpot

Anyone got tips for playing low limit tournaments? From what i can tell the big stacks always play aggressively at the start to build a cushion for later....

what i've found is that playing tight-aggressive in low-limit tourneys is the best way to go.

Wow, horrible day last night all-around.

First I busted out of the tourney with 99 to AQ... A hit on the river, nothing I could do, just lost the race.

Then, lost a huge pot where I flopped top 2 pair. I will normally fold to a big reraise, even with top 2 pair, just cause I know the guy has something great, but here's the scenario. The guy who bet was a super loose cannon. About 5 hands earlier, this is what went down.

Loose Guy: Raises to $8
Guy #2: Reraises to $16
Guy #3: Reraises to $40
Guy #4: Reraises to all-in, which covers everyone at the table, about $400

Now, if you know anything about poker, and you are "Loose Guy", you realize that if you are holding A 10 offsuit, you do not have the best hand. It is not a question of maybe I do, you do NOT. Well dumbass "Loose Guy" thinks about it and calls with A10. Guy #2 reluctantly folds AQ. Guy #3, a very smart player, lays down QQ. Guy #4 flips over KK. Of course the ace falls and the dumbass "Loose Guy" wins the pot, but regardless of the win, he made a HORRIBLE call. Hands like that sicken me to watch, not because the better hand lost, but because the "Loose Guy" actually believed he made the right play and he tried to justify it. The fact was, he had the worst hand of the 4 by far preflop, but he got super lucky and caught one of 2 outs.

Anyways later on there was a preflop raise (he wasn't the raiser), I have KJ of clubs, and I call, so does he. KJ8 comes, and there goes my stack cause he has JJ. Like I said, to others, I fold, but not this guy. He had been making super loose plays all night, and I caught him when he had a hand. Oh well, tis life.

And to top it all off, my truck is screwing up and I have a cold.

I would agree, but last night I hit absolutely nothing on the flop, and with two "table bullies" playing big stacks they acquired early on, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not sure what to do when you're not getting cards, I think I just need to fold more....

I keep T-dub, Hotmail and Dirty South browsers open pretty much all the time, and I'm also logged on Partypoker quite often when I'm not actually playing.

I'm like the Shadow. Maybe I'm there, maybe I'm not (just like your AIM "idle off" thing).

So, you going to AC with all that money?

^^that sucks man, my opinion of hands like those, is its best to win a little rather than lose a lot, so I tend to bet them hard and fast on the flop, get everyone out with a smidgen of a hand and most of the time your only callers will only have a pair of kings, MAYBE two pair but you still have those hands beat. If you get raised its up to you. in that hand you did nothing wrong, just got beat by a better monster

^hahaha

Jim, I would have bet the flop harder. There was a flush draw out there and a straight draw. I see lots of players make the same play you did with a draw. They do it just to get a cheap free card on the turn. The guy may have just thought you were doing that and he thought his 9 was good. If he hit the flop he probably would have reraised with top pair, so you have to put him on middle pair, eventually trips, it just sucks he boated too.

ok, human game and not online ....
last night there was this kid at our table that would call practically anything. he goes all in after the flop with A-J-J on the board. He gets a caller, but he had the other guy covered. He gets runner, runner to finish his wheel. He had freakin 3-4 off suite and went all in. i mean, yeah he won, but what a freakin idiot. the other guy had A-K suited.
well anyhow, so like four hands later i'm the big blind at 200-400. he raises to 800 and no one else calls. so, feeling lucky with my 5-7 off suite against a guy who goes all in with 3-4, i called. 4-6-6 comes on the flop. again, feeling lucky, i bet the draw for like 1,000. he called. meanwhile, home boy is on the phone telling his friend how he got runner, runner to put my buddy out. so since he's not listening, i sarcastically whispered to the dealer, 'you better give me a f*n 8 or i'm going to go home crying when he puts me all in.' BAM! 8 on the turn! with authority, i picked up my chips and put them in the pot -- "All in!" i declared. he's like, "hey, i'm going to have to call you back...something just happened." and i'm like, "yeah, you just got pwnt and don't know it." but he calls with his K-5 off. HAHAH sweet victory was mine!!!
i ended up second.
after the fact, i talked to the kid. he's a good one, i felt kind of bad for playing such a shitty pocket, but i won with it last wednesday too.
i think 5-7 off is my new favorite hand.

posting this for pilgrimshoes

last weekend in AC. had to stay in phila, so only got like 9 hours table time. (couldnt go to borgata for extenuating circumstances)

2 interesting hands.

2/4 limit @ tropicana. insanely loose game, avg. 8 to a flop. preflop raises get no one out.

last hand played, was up ~150 in 5 hours (not great, but for 2/4 limit, not exactly bad either)

ever feel like the dealer somehow stacks the deck for you? I know its pretty much absurd, but this was ridiculous.

Gettin along with dealer having a good time, tell her its my last hand and she better give me a good one. utg. AKc. tell her she's done it now, and raise utg. 7 callers.

flop : K26 rainbow. SB, BB check, I bet. 7 callers.
Turn: A. bet, get raised, reriase, call. down to 3 callers
River: A. bet, get raised, reraise, 1 caller.

he flips A2. AK boat holds up.

kinda nice when you ask for it, get it, and drag a nice pot, then just walk away. (it was ~530 am, and still had to drive back to philly) Tipped dealer $10 and thanked her for her generosity.

next, the monster i didnt want.

Bally's 3/6 limit. One guy wanted to go to bally's to be able to smoke at the table. (in hindsight, not a great idea. didnt really like it too much, the players at my table were half grizzled grinders, and half kids thinking they were slick and were getting run out of the building.)

AJd on BB. calls around for 6 callers. i raise on BB, thinking if anyone had me beat, they'd of raised. (pretty solid competetion except 2 fish, and 2 clueless kid-o's).

flop: AJ9 rainbow. check raised flop, 4 callers of initial bet(utg), then my raise got a reraise (not by the initial raiser) figured initial raiser was on AK, he'd be playing AK strong all night (this is exactly what i wanted him to be on, but with that many callers of the bets, i had no idea really) The 3 bettor(cutoff), i was worried for 2 pair or a set, but since it was one more small bet, i was pretty committed and felt i was strong. i call, initial raiser calls 3 bet.

turn: 9. yikes. if the 3-bettor had a set, j9 or A9, i was pretty much done. so i check. initial bettor bets, cutoff calls, and i felt pretty committed and called.

river: J. Money. I bet. utg calls. cutoff raises. I reriase. utg folds very very reluctantly. (goes heads up. no cap on heads up rasies.) cutoff reraises, and i do the same. he just calls.

I throw my Jacks full of aces on the table, knowing only the last two aces for AA and the last two 9's for quad nines would beat me, stand up and look at this pretty healthy pot. The ironically russian grinder looks at me stand up, and throws down pocket aces. Aces full of jacks. proceed to slam rest of gin martini.

bartender, i need a drink.

in hindsight, i dont know why i didnt think something was up after the flop. One of those unique situations where you are infact drawing dead with a pretty strong hand. right after the river card turned i would have bet my car he didnt have AA or 99, but i started getting really itchy after the reraises kept comming. I still wouldnt play that hand any other way. I just had no idea why he didnt raise with AA at the cutoff with that many callers preflop, or reraise my preflop raise, or raise on the turn. lots of possibilites. but i guess he really played me down, and i hit one of the 2 cards in the deck that would just about warrant me putting nearly everything i had into that pot. (thank god it wasnt nl).

And then an hour later, a girl was with us with the nick name Q. They came up and told me that they were ready to leave, i tell them that when the BB gets to me, ill leave. while she is standing behind me, i proceed to get pocket QQ the next 2 hands (utg + 1) and (utg). how strange.

all in all, a good weekend, ended up +200 after paying for food, gas, tolls, tips, drinks, ceasers buffet, and dog kenneling with only putting 100 in play the first night. not bad at all.

^^^ thats some good story

mine for the week: basement game

I get pocket Aces and raise the blind
I get a large reraise from the small blind
I put him on K's or Q's
I'll take those odds, so i go all in (not a very expensive game)
he immediately calls and flips over his AA

ends up split pot

it's just the first time i had ever seen that, it was great

question about everyone's strategies in single table online tournaments?????

Just a question about how you go about choosing which tourneys you enter. For a while, I would consistently play 30+3 single table tourneys, with maybe a higher buy tourney everyone once in a while. I do well like this, but recently I changed my strategy a little. I continue to play the 30+3 single table tourneys, but if I finish in 1st place, I reward myself by playing in a 100+9 single table. If I then come in 1st or 2nd in the 100+9 single table I will play a 200+15 single table. This seems to work well for me so far. Just wondering what other people's strategies are on choosing what buy in to play on single table tourneys?

I just started playing Omaha and I enjoy it immensely. Been cleaning up on the free money table on PP, but I know real players wouldn't play like these guys. So I have a few questions on playing cash and tournament Omaha

1) What constitutes a good preflop hand? (free tables are loose so I rarely fold)

2) In general, what kinds of hands should you see the turn and river cards with?

3) What style of play suits Omaha?

A lot of the questions are exceptionally broad, but I thought you guys might have some general advice for me. I'll try to play some tournaments online it get some experience for myself.

I am definitely not an Omaha expert, but from what I have seen, the best starting hands are those where you have A2 suited, so I suppose AA22 of 2 suits would be the best hand (since you have an opportunity for both the nut flush and the nut low hands, and of course the AA factor.) Also, trips are bad to be dealt (duh). I dunno too much else though.

Statistically speaking, if you are playing Omaha Hi-Lo, the best starting hand is AA23 double suited. If you're just playing high, it's AAKK double suited.

Another question... I understand you have to play loose when heads up, but anyone got some more specific advice for heads up play?

^^ thanks....

^ Suffered an attrocious beat last night myself. Flop was Ace, Jack, Ace, and I'm sitting there with Ace, 3 (only 6 players and they're all loose, so I figured what the hell). Now, two guys in the pot both like the flop, guy A and guy B. B is a loose player calling just about anything, so I put him on a pair of Jacks. Guy A is tighter, so I'm fairly certain he has the other Ace. At this point I should have folded, knowing Guy A has a better kicker. I instead paid the dollar bet to see the turn, which unfortunately for me was a 3.

I say unfortunately b/c now I have to call, knowing the only thing that could beat me is an Ace Jack... which is of course what Guy A flips over when I clal his all in. While I was busy trying to figure out what to do with my Ace/3 he was probably giving off massive signals saying he had the nuts. I'm annoyed that I missed it, and I'm annoyed I couldn't fold the A/3 on the turn, but it was a low buy-in game with loose players.

Tough to call.... still shoulda seen it coming.

Kinda off topic, but kinda on.

I have a friend (older gentleman in his 50's) who wont play poker with us, we thought it was just because of gambling, but eventually found out that he was really into it at one point, and was a decent stakes game and someone robbed the game at gunpoint. He swore to god if god would let him go home to his children alive, that he would never gamble again.

Interesting story i thought.
