Quote : | "they are making it that when Jean was younger (and there's a flashback) when Prof. X first met her he recognized her powers as surpassing his so for her own protection he put mental blocks to prevent her from achieving her full abilities, which then in turn were broken down when she used Cerebro in the first movie - which explains why she was developing those crazy abilities in the 2nd movie. Then in this one she learns that he did that and gets pissed..." |
Actually that storyline is direct out of the comic...except that's not what made her into Phoenix, its just a background story. Initially Jean was a superstrong telepath and was around when, I want to say it was her brother maybe it was just a random, died and basically was somewhat freaked by that so her parents took her to Prof. X who put a block on her telepathic abilities. That's why originally she was just telekinetic. And Phoenix originally didn't inhabit Jeans body, but was a separate entity that took on the same form while she was in a coma at the bottom of New York Harbor, it was only in later incarnations that Phoenix actually inhabited the person's body, starting when Rachel appeared. Personally I think this sounds like a reasonable and slightly clever adaptation combining two stories.

And now for the news...(spoilers galore in actual articles)
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=6747
Quote : | "Gorder said, "I've worked on all three 'X-Men' films and this is unprecedented as far as the action. Brett Ratner is doing an incredible job of making it visually exciting with huge stunts, explosions, and action. You're just going to be thrilled when you see it. It's absolutely incredible. Bryan Singer did a fantastic job and Brett's carried it to another level."" |
Quote : | "Going back to the writers and the story, Gorder was asked which X-Men comics were used as source material for this new film. He replied, "There's a lot of reference from Joss Whedon's 'Astonishing X-Men.' There's some characters - Dr. Rao is a character in this movie - that's from the 'Astonishing X-Men.' And also 'Phoenix Rising' and the Phoenix comics - there will be some references to that, but mostly it's an original story. We've just taken bits and pieces of what we liked from Joss's storylines and from the Phoenix storyline."" |
Quote : | ""Kelsey blows my mind. He is so Beast that I almost don't even want to see him out of his makeup. I like him so much, and his character so much, that when I see him as Kelsey, I keep thinking it's Frasier. When you first see him in the Beast makeup, you're thinking, 'Well, as soon as he talks, he'll sound like Frasier with Beast makeup on.' That is not at all the case." |
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=6751
Quote : | "BR: That's a tricky question for me…if you ask me what comic book issue [story points] refer to, I can't tell you that. But I can tell you that every single scene in this movie [has some roots in the comic]. [Screenwriters] Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg are fanatical "X-Men" fans, and if I ask them, "Well, where the hell did you get this idea from?" They'll pull out "X-Men" #127 and have a photocopy of it for me. In my office here, before I actually shot, there's a reference of every single scene in this movie from a comic. And I thought some of it was made up! And the execution of the script is so brilliant." |

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I hope Magneto can be even more badassed in this one. I got giddy in the second one when he pulled the iron out of the guard's bloodstream and also when he pulled the pins from the soldiers' grenades. It was just a small glimpse of how truly awesome Magneto can be when he uses his powers to the fullest extent.

Interview with Kelsey Grammer
Quote : | "Did you get a body scan?
Oh, we did all the scanning stuff. Most likely I'm going to be an action figure. I'm a little worried about, you know, my lack of merchandising contract on this film. [Grins] " |
Quote : | "I look kind of like I did when I was about twenty-five, actually. I had that much hair then. [Smiles]" |
Quote : | "How did the part come up for you?
Actually, the previous director, the one who was originally going to do the film - Matthew [Vaughn] is his name - he was insistent that I play the part, so I guess he just knew something that other people didn't. But I don't know all the reasons why he was asked to step aside and why they brought Brett on, but I'm enjoying working with Brett and I think he's going to deliver a good movie.
Did Matthew Vaughn give his reasons why he wanted you so badly?
I don't know. I think it might have just been a certainty. Like a lightning rod kind of thing where he thought, "This is the only guy for the job."
When you were first offered this role, what was your initial reaction? This is a little different from your normal roles…
Yeah. I thought, "Cool. Great." As an actor, you just hope that in your lifetime you'll create several memorable characters. So, I had a shot at one, which I did for twenty years. [Laughs] And here's another one, which is probably pretty memorable, too.
Beast is a very athletic character. Have you been doing a lot of action scenes?
Not a ton. There's another guy that dresses up like me and jumps around. But, I've always been a fairly athletic guy myself, so it's not hard to buy that I'm capable of rending people in half. [Laughs]
Was Beast a member of the X-Men before?
Yes, he pre-dates almost everybody. He was one of their first students of Magneto - Eric [Lensherr, Magneto's real name] - and Xavier. He goes way back. As does Jean, I guess - Jean was recruited early on. " |
