"reminds me of the champions cup final... Barca v. Arsenal. Arsenal gets the red in the 24th minute (goalie)... Henry scores in the 35th to make it 1 - 0 Arsenal. But Barcelona was too much in the 2nd half and ended up taking home the cup 2 - 1"

almost everything you said there is completely wrong except for the final score

I like the Angola jerseys.. I wonder why theirs are the only ones different from every other team with Puma jerseys

who's the announcer with Tommy Smyth? I think they're my favorite duo in the world cup - Balboa tries to talk too much, Harkes says "Absolutely JP" every time he talks, and I just didn't care for Shep too much

Adrian Healey

Quote :
"• Its top team for games —Dave O'Brien and three-time World Cup player Marcelo Balboa — will be in Germany and call all U.S. games. Two other TV pairs —JP Dellacamera/John Harkes and Rob Stone/Robin Fraser — will also be on site.

• Two announcing teams —Glenn Davis/Shep Messing and Adrian Healey/Tommy Smyth — will call games off monitors at ESPN's Connecticut headquarters.

• ESPN studio analysts will include Eric Wynalda, Alexi Lalas and the only woman in Cup coverage —Julie Foudy.

Tim Scanlan, ABC/ESPN senior coordinating producer for Cup coverage, says ESPN's studio will include a new demonstration area where analysts can run around. But game coverage, relying on the Cup's world TV feed, which uses 22 cameras a game, will be straightforward and not involve ESPN cameras: "It would be ridiculous to cut away from the feed — you could miss a goal."

ABC/ESPN will carry all Cup games in high-def TV — up from zero in 2002 — and put all its TV game coverage online via ESPN's broadband service. And Scanlan, saying retired ABC newsman Ted Koppel addressed his production meetings, expects coverage to extend beyond sports. He cites the Mexico-Iran game June 11 as a case where "the world's biggest sports event and biggest news event will collide." Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose nation risks international sanctions for its uranium-enrichment programs, is expected to attend the game."

Yeah, Derek Rae was left off doing on-screen World Cup coverage.

The rumored reason was that ESPN didn't want English accents doing the big games.

Does anybody else hate Ronaldo or is it just me? He pouts after every foul, every missed shot, every time he isn't passed the ball. And don't get me wrong, I think he's talented, but every EPL game I watched, all it seems like he does is dribble (usually including numerous unnecessary crossovers) and I hate when he crosses it with his legs crossed... he seems to do that alot, did it in today's game too

Did you say Renaldo...or Ginobli?

Yeah, I've seen a lot of stuff like that in the couple games I've watched so far.

Guys are getting barely bumped and you'd think someone just shot them with a gun. I thought the women's cup was next year...

And, like all sports, many don't want to play the game, they want to fool the ref.

Thats just today's athletes, which is a direct reflection on today's society.

I don't know a whole lot about soccer, but Angola sucks. No threat to score a goal whatsoever.
Portugal playing like shit after first 5 minutes, but it would take a huge mistake to lose this game.

This is the very definition of boring.

This game is very similar to the England - Paraguay game. Early goal, boring game afterwards, and a very disappointing performance by a heavy favorite.

Angola's flag makes me want to hunt down whoever designed it, smack them, and yell "communism failed, get over it"

EDIT:i swear it looks like a sickle on the small top-image of the flag... bigger image is different... whatever

I wish they would have a big wall on the field and paint it at halftime. Then at least we could watch it dry.

Whoever said this game could get ugly was right on the mark.

Well, to change subjects from this boring game, did anybody see this comment from Kasey Keller?

Quote :
""I'm an American. I played in England for 12 years. I don't have some dodgy English accent," said Keller. "I'm still speaking with an American accent.""

Zidane is old... BUT

do you remember that UEFA cup first round match? France v. England? 1 - 0 England in the 90th minute. Zidane pulls out TWO stoppage time goals for the win. It was amazing... That's the game that Beckham fucked up bad. He had a PK in the 60th minute I think it was and he missed the goal over the top crossbar by like 5 feet. Horrible. But I don't think Zidane and co. made it past the group stage.

That was just a flash of the old France team that won the 1998 world cup...

If you think he's bad now, you should've seen him when he was 18 and had just come up from Sporting Lisbon. All he did was stepovers. Literally. He's much more disciplined now and uses his pace and crossing ability more than trickery.

I think we're probably gonna barely miss out on goal difference at 1-1-1.

I see us optimistically at 2-0-1, with the draw being tomorrow, though I'll admit to being up in the air with Ghana.

If we can stretch the Ital D by running EJ, McB, Beasley, and Convey at them, I like our chances, even if they nick one early.

out of the 3 teams in our group, im not afraid to admit that Ghana scares me the most, especially if we're 1-1 going into that game

^ It's just they're the biggest unknown. The African teams so far haven't done much. Ivory Coast was pretty much Didier Drogba and Angola today were a complete joke.

Tie or Loss versus the Czechs
Loss or Tie versus Italy
Win versus Ghana

The thing that could hurt us is that one of Italy or the Czechs could be qualified by the time they meet in the final game. So one could be playing the B-team when we need the other team to lose so we can slide into the second spot.
