^^what about roommates, significant others, and sibblings? i wouldn't think any of these pairs would have multiple consoles.

MOST people dont play video games w/ these people. if you live w/ your sibling, your parents can afford $60 per kid, the price of a game. roommates can buy their own wii's, this aint communist russia

Most implies >51%.

In any case, I seriously doubt you can make any valid statement concerning MOST of the gaming population.

there is a really hot rumor that Gamestop/EB stores will begin taking pre-order deposits on Friday September 22nd, and you will have the option to pay for the $50 minimum deposit any way you damn well please

sign up for the mailing list on EBgames.com, that should keep you up to date on the reservations of the system itself

"again, MOST gamers dont play w/ wives and their kids. they play with their friends. MOST people will just need to take their wiimotes for a trip."

Even if "most" gamers don't play with their wives and kids, the whole fucking point to this console was to get them, your grandparents, your aunt and uncle, your neighbors, and so forth to start playing these games on this console.

For example here was one of their concept videos... the first two scenes show 4 controllers in use.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ig8gVlYpnNM

Of course this is not how every game is going to be played but it was to be a focus. THere is no reason Nintendo could not offer a Remote and Nunchuck for $40... much more reasonable (and they can afford to take a small loss at least somewhere).

Most implies mopre than just plurality... "many" would be the right word.

2. in the majority of instances: Most operations are successful.
3. greatest, as in size or extent: the most talent.

4. the greatest quantity, amount, or degree; the utmost: The most I can hope for is a passing grade.
5. the greatest number or the majority of a class specified: Most of his writing is rubbish.
6. the greatest number: The most this room will seat is 150.
7. the majority of persons: to be more sensitive than most."

It does imply

agreed. A price that high completely flies in the face of everything Nintendo is saying they're wanting to do. It's $10 more than the 360 controller for cryin out loud

well the controller is the main feature of the wii.. so it's more expensive

what is so hard to understand about that?

there is such a thing as price differentiation and it has been empirically proven that raising the price (to a certain limit) will actually increase demand for an object

even assuming that you add $60, this is still on of the cheapest console launches ever once you consider inflation.

Then so was the 360. When you consider the Wii is old technology I wouldn't consider it well-priced. Its more Gamecube 1.2 than next-gen yet is priced like a next-gen console. When they aren't pumping the money into HD, HD-DVD, advanced processing and graphics power, and such then there is no real reason to inflate the price. THey are the only company trying to make a profit on hardware. We all know they don;t have to worry about covering the hardware investment so its intentional gouging of their trusted market.

Odd... I paid about $20 for my motion sensor controller a half decade ago.

you can compare that 60 dollar remote to xbox's 50 if you like, but you can get both wired and third party controllers for much cheaper. they arent as nice, but you can still play. ill be interested to see if they make and how much 3rd party nintendo controllers will be.

the point is pretty much moot.

yeah the controller might be worth $60.

but we were promised a uber-affordable console.

The Nintendo Wii is not it.

I would rather they bundle an extra controller than that POS game they're forcing down our throats. It is not FREE, cuz Japan doesn't get it bundled and their price is ~$40 less.
Not to mention they get Opera for free, and we probably won't.

Extra Controller with nunchuck. 2 classic controllers (might not get those if wavebirds work) and 4 games.

Doesn't seem like $600 worth of stuff.

it looks from the placement that they wont work, or maybe you could get 1 or 2 in. worst case you might be able to use extension cables to run to the wavebird controller plug, naw mean?

the idea of a wii sounds cool, but not at launch

nothing is really grabbing me as a system seller, other than "a new way to play games"

people pay for a prettier product, it shows that its money well spent

thats like buying a 2006 honda, then buying a 2004 honda cause it handles differently

may be a horrible analogy, but thats all I got

Zelda and Wario Ware are good enough for me. Next year we should get Metroid, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. It'll be great to see what they can do with Mario Party on the Wii too.

I expect Wavebirds to work. IIRC, even the DK Bongo Drums will work on the Wii.

so the wii has 2 mem slots for the cube

what about mem slots for 64?

why not let it all just be on the SD cards? probably bc they are still selling cube mem cards.
