How many offers did Mays have before he committed to us? Who offered him besides us? I know it was early but I'm just wondering who else was really interested in him. 10/26/2006 8:52:20 PM |

Not sure how many other offers he had, but it says that Indiana, Michigan State and Purdue were interested in him. Makes sense that those schools were interested considering they are the local schools. Glad we could steal him away from Indiana. Now that's a school that I am truly afraid of. If they were ever to get back on top, holy hell, they'd have the pick of the litter from Indiana and the surrounding states. There are places there where they put a basketball in your hands as soon as you can walk. Think about some of the highly touted players to recently have come from Indiana and the surrounding states. Sean May, Greg Oden, LeBron James, etc.

Yea, that Ohio/Indiana/Chicago ILL area is always stocked full of talent. And it goes way back too. I believe our very own Everett Case had a pipeline to Indiana and was very successful because of it. 10/26/2006 9:59:57 PM |

I'd say that he'll end up fairly highly ranked - def. in the top75, maybe even top40. Lowe and co. had evaluated him and feel he is a great pickup. 10/26/2006 11:14:49 PM |

note about no longer considering chris warren
Quote : | "Chris Warren, a 5-11, 165-pound point guard in the class of 2007 visited NC State recently. Warren was an option that the staff was considering for future point guard needs and ultimately chose to pass. (With Mays commitment, that becomes more clear). Warren is one of those situations where so many people on the internet prove that they simply don’t listen. We say posts on some message boards asking why State had ‘rescinded’ Warren’s offer…and proclamations that State should jump all over the short point guard with a valuable scholarship. Not that it will make one ounce of difference, but people who don’t know what they are talking about should not speak." |

info on the first 2008 commit, Julius Mays
Julius Mays, PG ***
Scout.com Player Evaluation: STRENGTHS Ability to Create Poise Strength AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT Defensive Presence Perimeter Shot
Should be one of the top players in Indiana's Class of 2008. A scoring point cut from the Armon Bassett molds, Mays can double as a wing guard if need be.

So Thomas signs Saturday, Tracy Smith announces Monday and CJ Williams expected to announce in a week or two. We're leading for both....but you never know. Gotta keep fingers crossed. This may be a HUGE upcoming week for Lowe and Co.

from Collegesports.com (athletes which NCState have shown interest in, rankings by their name)
Quote : | "Here is some of the available talent that may still make decisions this fall and could have a major impact on our final fall rankings...
Tracy Smith (No. 42) - Athletic face-up type insider can score points in bunches and has trimmed down his body and seen his recruitment take off. He has a press conference planned for Monday at 2:00 p.m. eastern. It looks like N.C. State and Oklahoma State are his finalists, although LSU and USC are still in the mix.
The Players who most likely will be available next spring (listed by height)...
Joseph Katuka (No. 227) - Athletic, but thin big man can run floor all day. SMU, St. Joseph's, Virginia, and N.C. State have shown early interest.
Mike Scott (No. 215) - Skilled face-up big man can flat out score in variety of ways from arc to the blocks. Virginia, N.C. State, and Wake Forest have shown most interest to date.
Jordan Crawford 6-5 190 SG Chatham, VA Hargrave Military - Explosive wing scorer can knock down three or break you down one-on-one. He has Xavier and Indiana on him hard along with Tennessee and N.C. State." |

LOI = Letter of Intent
All signs point to Tracy Smith announcing he wants to go to NC State on Monday at 2pm. He goes to Mt. Zion which is not an NCAA school right now so even if he wants to go here he might not be able to. His SAT score is suppose to be good enough though. 11/11/2006 10:45:09 PM |

I think the NCAA doesnt recognize graduates from them sometimes. I dont know what the criteria are, but if his SAT is high enough then it shouldnt matter. 11/11/2006 11:13:57 PM |

from the N&O
Quote : | "N.C. State men's basketball coach Sidney Lowe will learn Monday if Durham Mount Zion basketball player Tracy Smith will join the Wolfpack.
The 6-foot-8 forward totaled 21 points and six rebounds last season for the Warriors.
Smith, from Detroit, is expected to choose from among NCSU, Oklahoma State and Southern California.
He is ranked No. 45 on scout.com's top 100 list of high school seniors.
State already has a commitment from 6-9 J.J. Hickson of Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler. Hickson is ranked No. 21.
Johnny Thomas (6-5) of Greensboro Day is expected sign his national letter of intent with the Pack next week in his hometown of Morehead City.
KANSAS STATE ON TOP: New Kansas State men's basketball coach Bob Huggins didn't take long to make his mark.
The former Cincinnati coach has assembled the best recruiting class in the country so far, says Dave Telep of scout.com.
There is another signing period in the spring and another school could pass Kansas State, but it is at the top right now.
Heading the Kansas State group are 6-8 Michael Beasley of Fitchburg (Mass.) Notre Dame and Durham's 6-4 Dominique Sutton of Lenoir Patterson school.
Bill Walker, who was declared ineligible for high school play this winter, is ranked No. 8 in the country even though he is not playing this season.
Walker has enrolled at Kansas State and is expected to be eligible for the second semester.
Telep has Duke's class ranked No. 3 behind Syracuse.
Virginia Tech is No. 12 and Florida State and Wake Forest are 20th and 21st.
DUTCH TO ANNOUNCE: Clayton track standout Johnny Dutch is expected to announce his college choice Tuesday.
Dutch has won the N.C. High School Athletic Association 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles the past two consecutive years.
He was ranked No. 1 in the country in the hurdles for much of last year.
He has narrowed his list of possible schools to Tennessee, South Carolina, and Florida.
PACK ADDS TACKLE: N.C. State picked up a football commitment from Alexander Central tackle Kyle Linney last week when he was on campus for the Wolfpack's game against Georgia Tech.
Linney also had offers from South Carolina and East Carolina and has been chosen to the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas all-star game.
Linney is the Wolfpack's 15th known commitment." |
