so they took what Kornheiser said and then said the opposite... makes total sense

for this page

heres about half of it:

Quote :
"Quarterbacks usually have a fairly cordial relationship with each other, and you hardly ever see one quarterback go after another. But that changed last night, when Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler failed to convert on a fourth down, and was on the receiving end of some trash talk from Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers:

Video via Pro Football Talk, which notes that Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson likes to lecture others about having class and not taunting opponents. I wonder what Tomlinson said to Rivers."

if you go to chargers.com there is a press conference with Phil after the game (after LT's) for free. Only one question about the incident and Phil said "It's nothing to write about"

I feel very sorry that you're a skins fan.

Norv is doing fine out in SD. And he's a QB guru, so Rivers should benefit under his tutelage. Whether Norv and Rivers can guide a team to the superbowl remains to be seen, but they have a decent shot this year. They are peaking at the right time.

If this was an NCSU player talkin trash to a UNC player, none of us would talk bad about it. It's a rivalry, people talk trash. I don't understand why this is a big deal.

and seriously, Cutler was talkin shit to the defensive guys that Rivers was goin out to congratulate cuz hes a fuckin leader. Backin his guys up and saying "Bye baby" to cutler isn't worth writing anything about(to steal his words). Just people that have nothin better to do makin a big deal about it

^not me, but i can see where you're going with that. But you can go to any biased board such as this one and say that about any athlete from said school. If it happened b/t two QB's that DIDN'T go to NCSU, then everyone on this board would think nothing of it. But since it involves Rivers, everyone on this board feels something about it.

What im trying to say is that you can't blame the people on this board because Rivers went to NCSU. Theres an obvious bias. I for one, believe he can talk shit to anyone he wants as long as he doesn't cross the line. Saying "Bye baby" or "Crybaby" to the opposing QB as he is talkin shit to defensive players isn't crossing the line for me.

well I think there are cases where you have to be objective... for example, I think Leonard Little is a piece of shit that should be locked up...doesnt matter if he went to UT or not. And I also think Peyton Manning will go down as the greatest QB of all time... doesnt matter if he went to UT or not

^^^^ i see your point but i don't think rivers has gotten too close to leonard little range, don't know if that's a great example

to draw a parallel you'd have to come up with a UT player who did something somewhat questionable that no one outside of UT fans remember

like gerald riggs jr eating the last of the mashed potatoes without asking anyone else if they wanted any

^^Then I think you have answered your question.

I personally wouldn't have cared at all if Cutler had done that to Rivers.

Especially if Rivers was the one starting it by talking smack to the defense as they were walking off the field.

I mean, I wouldn't have thought that makes him classless in any way.

I would probably have bood him for it, just like I hope denver fans bood rivers for his jawing.

But sports aren't supposed to be objective anyway.

^ wrong... who you cheer for isnt objective, but almost everything else is... otherwise you just get childish "my team is better because they are my team wah wah wah" shit or I like the Giants, so therefore Barry doing steroids isnt bad because it was for my team... shit like that should end around age 12 if you really actually watch sports.

Do I like the Pats? no, I hate them, but that has NOTHING to do with my judgment that they are easily the best team this year, to think otherwise is just being retarded.

Again, I don't think this is that confusing. You hate opposing teams players who talk smack and you love it when your players talk smack. It's just how it works.

whats funny is that people can sit back on the internet and have their "holier than thou" moment when in real life, if they were in that athletes shoes, they would have done the same thing

and just for the record, I never said I had a problem with what Rivers did, I just said it seemed odd, and that a good deal of the people on here who are claiming that "oh all athletes do that, nothing at all wrong with that" would be the first ones calling "thug, bitch, no class" etc. if Mike Vick, Cutler, TJ Yates, or some shithead from Maryland etc. did it

i saw no mention of it on the denver post website and only a small one on the san diego whatever newspaper site

it seems like tww is discussing this way more than any legitimate news sources

Here's a San Diego Union-Tribune article about the "smack talking" during MNF. It seems to be objective, and tell the whole story. There's a classic picture of Philip in there too.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20071227/news_1s27chargers.html

My favorite part:
Quote :
"Of all the teams to question what Rivers has done, Denver seems an odd antagonist.

In four career starts against the Broncos, Rivers has a 119.8 passer rating, and the Chargers have won all four by an average of 39-13. In those games, he has completed 69.6 of his passes for 960 yards and seven touchdowns with two interceptions.

“I understand some of the frustration is they've lost four in a row to this team,” Rivers said. “People don't like losing four in a row.”"

Quote :
"“I don't really care for the guy, first of all,” Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey told the Rocky Mountain News yesterday. “He's not a respectable guy right now, because you talk too much trash and do this and that, but you're really not a great player in this league right now. You're surrounded by great players, but you're not a great player.

“I think he needs to understand where he stands in this league – on his team first and foremost. They've got a lot of classy guys on that team. He kind of represents the classless guy on that team. He's definitely lost my respect.” "

just shows the other viewpoint, that not everyone views it as "just being a football player"... I think Champ is more qualified as a football player than anyone on here and he took it as being classless. And obviously he isnt just saying that because its a rival, as he said, in HIS opinion there are a lot of great players with class on San Diego.

By the way, I hate Champ Bailey (respect him, but hate him)
