I had another question fo the exercise savvy. My trainer makes me do exercises while on one foot and I notice that my balance hasn't gotten better, maaybe marginally. I am always falling and always have to put my foot down before my 15 reps are up. What's the deal? Is he increasing the situation, the weights are going up but the moves don't vary. How do I get better balance? Are some people jsut shitty off balance klutz's?

I've been practicing standing on one leg with my other in front like I'm stepping on a dictionary and I still tap down. Any ideas?

I dont have good balance either. I used to when I played ball year-round, but not anymore. I've also been swimmy-headed recently, it kinda freaks me out sometimes. As far as balance, I'd say just keep practicing.

I wish I could handle speed! It would really eff up my head though. I'm totally kidding! I'd never do that shit, so dont start pming me offers!

"They went into the cruelty of the animals in the slaughterhouse but mainly spoke about all the growth hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides thrown into our meat and delivered to us without our knowledge. Went into a lot about how the USDA, FDA and another organization are shady and not to be trusted wth some examples. They mentioned that even milk is bad which made me weep a little. According to them we are the only species that drinks milk into our adult lives, that's there's no such thing as non fat milk, milk was created by nature to fatten babies up, to help them grow, adults just get fat off of it."

If you read any piece of literature that tries to put this kind of spin on the meat and dairy, throw it away and try to forget everything they said. There is absolutely nothing for you to gain from it. Someone that quotes PETA for a reference but claims doctors to be uneducated should be slapped, not listened to for advice.

The only reason they titled the book as a weight-loss book was so that people would read their political garbage and pay attention to it.

Yeah pretty much. They mentioned that they wrote the book to inform people of the cruel treatment at the slaughterhouse and change lives. Listed in that order.

Nowhere on the cover of the book did it say anything about that, just that it was a guide to helping ladies lose the weight. Oh well, guess I better read reviews on books before purchasing them.

Have you ever seen a genuine vegan? They are mega skinny. Gaunt, even. Often with a grayish yellow palor. And sour attitude.

I don't know of any vegetarians/vegans. I do know that back in the day they had to take lots of supplements because of the lack of animal products. I don't think I could do it. I do want more natural foods in my diet though.

I have been sick all week and now I am on medication that takes away my lust for food and I will be on this for two weeks so seriously... i weighed myself on Weds and I weighed myself today on the same scale and it says I weigh 5 lbs less. I have been using this scale for about a year. How is that even possible???

the only essential vitamins/nutrients that can't be found naturally occuring in plant sources is B12 and D, but you can get B12 from fortified cereal and other stuff, and D from sunlight

Are the caloric calculators correct on those machines like the elliptical, stationary bike, thing that swings all crazy legged like? If so I'm burning around 450-500 calories a workout period. Good? Bad? WORSER?

some are, some aren't. some tell you how many calories they think you burned on the machine, and some tell you how many they think you burned in that timeframe to exercise + BMR. don't get too caught up in the numbers; your heartrate and your total time doing cardio is more important.

My diet is struggling, it's hard to cut sweets out completely but I'm doing much better.

I'll stay the same weight forever and then suddenly drop three pounds, it's crazy.

Congrats blas, that's impressive. I hope you manage to keep it off and live a healthy happy life!

On another note, I bought these one-a-day multi vitamins that are supposedly for "WEight Management", they don't claim to help you lose weight but they have more vitamins that keep your metabolism rate up and use food for energy instead of storing it. They mentioned vitamin B. Think it's false? The ifne print said it was not tested by the FDA.

Quote :
"Trigger Food #1: Ice Cream
Is ice cream one of your trigger foods? Then keep those half-gallon containers out of your house. Instead, consider one of these options:
# Stop eating ice cream. Period. Instead, call around to local frozen yogurt shops until you find one that serves sugar-free, low-calorie frozen yogurt. Check to make sure that it’s really low-calorie (for example, one of the yogurt cafés in my hometown has frozen yogurt that is ten calories per ounce). Rather than take it home, order a small serving at the café, and enjoy it there.
# Buy pre-portioned, sugar-free frozen treats, such as sugar-free Fudgsicles. Just 40 calories each, with calcium, protein and no sugar, these individually-wrapped chocolate fudge frozen treats are one of my favorite after-dinner desserts."

Yay! Fudgsicles rock! Chocolate in general is a trigger food for me.

If I remember correctly, dark chocolate is good for you, but milk chocolate isn't based on the stuff they put in.

Course, the dark chocolate is probably cooking chocolate

And only in small amounts. I have the problem of buying chocolate when I crave it then eating too much before I realize it. Afterwards I get mad at myself and throw a fit. I've bought alternatives that aren't "as bad" and they've been working so far.

I think I've done well on this diet, it takes a while to phase things out, I haven't eaten fast food in like a month, I had Arby's last night but the sandwich and only half of it. No more soda. Phasing out ice cream and chocolate is next. I can eat veggies without gagging now, and I eat more natural foods than ever before! Woo!

Congrats on the weight loss. I have been dieting since Jan 7th and lost 27 lbs. No exercise at all, just changing what I was eating. I am following the WeightWatcher plan thanks to some info my mom gave me. It is easy to follow, and you can basically eat whatever you want, you just have to give up the points for eating it. By far the easiest diet I have ever been on. I am going to start working out next week, since my travel schedule permits it a little easier.

If you are craving chocolate try the new 100 Cal Hostess Chocolate Cupcakes. They are awesome and not too bad for you. I can only find them at Wal-mart.

Are you trying to?

Everyone around me is dropping it like ...something that drops really fast. I'm taking in less calories than I burn, but I am also doing resistence training/gaining muscle mass.

Oye vey. I fit in clothes better but it's not a huge difference.

everyone's body is different

some people can lose it slowly

some people lose it no problem fast

some people lose a bunch, plateau, then a bunch more, then plateau again

i'm a plateau loser. i'm on my 2nd plateau right now, but the trick is just to stay determined so my next 15 lb. spike will happen before i know it.

I plateau and then lose three pounds. It's weird.

I'm guessing because my diet was really struggling in the beginning it slowed downt he weight loss because I am losing it more rapidly now. Who knows, I am not ready to give up though.

I don't really know how much I'm losing... I think it's around 10... But I will find out for sure Friday when I go get my physical... The day of truth... I just want to get down to 133. I think that will be perfect for my body type and I think that's how much I weighed when this picture was taken...

And I'm just fine w/ that weight.

Now that everyone knows how much I weigh... Grrr.

[Edited on March 14, 2007 at 11:31 AM. Reason : Oh and if I am right.. About 11 more lbs to go!!!]

Kiwi, if you notice the people losing quickly arent working out. Therefor we arent gaining muscle. You are losing weight slowly, because youre probably gaining muscle, which weighs more than fat. You need to be more concerned with how you look, over how much you weigh.

^ That is a good point. This is part of why i have put off working out. I wanted to reach a certain weight then start working in the cardio to help lose the rest. Once I reach my goal weight i will start lifting weights and building mass. I guess it's just a mental thing, but I feel better knowing i weigh that much less.

I think the better meause when you are working out is the BMI or the body fat percentage. That takes into account your muscle build up and the fat loss.

Yeah I'm hoping that I've actually lost more fat than the scale is saying. My kangaroo pooch is going away but ever so slowly.

Last time I decided to work out, or become active, I didn't see much weight loss, then I got depressed and stopped eating and moving, I lost a shitton. I don't know what the Hell my body is doing.
