well technically, "obstruction" wouldn't have resulted in a penalty anyways

Ronaldo was just playing for a penalty like he usually does

I think it would have. Obstruction is a direct kick. Any infraction that results in a direct kick is a penalty in the box. Let's just say that if this game was being played at Old Trafford, that would have probably been a penalty.

the second time ronaldo got fouled in the box, by abidal i think, was worse. I thought that shouldve been a penalty.
Overall, a boring game. Barca had a ton of possesion, but that doesnt win games. They had maybe 1 or 2 good shots on goal. Man Utd has to feel pretty good going home with a 0-0 scoreline.

haha spot on. i was nervous in the beginning of the 2nd half...but i calmed down when i noticed there was no way barcelona was breaking through...you can pass it all day outside of the box, but they had pretty awful movement, ferdinand and hargreaves showed great composure in the back and read the passes quite well when barcelona did finally throw something in the box. brown, however, literally tried to give me a heart attack with some of his carelessness he has been known for.

you lose

I don't think if a foul had been called, it would've been classified as "obstruction" but since you were arguing in favor of obstruction, I am pointing out it would've been indirect

You're right. Obstruction is indirect. But I was wrong in calling that obstruction too. Either way, I still think it was a direct free kick foul (pushing, tripping, whatever...) that should have resulted in a penalty. The one in the second half was bad too, but looked much cleaner live. Only looking back could you tell he got nowhere near the ball and got a lot of the player.

im fine with no call ons the questionable PK's. ronaldo was trying to get the calls rather than play the game. thats the one thing i dont like about ronaldo's game, he looks for too many fouls. and he was pissing me off today with his 'whining.' sure he got fouled a lot, but if the ref doesnt call a foul, hes not gonna all of a sudden call one when you throw your hands up in disgust while the play continues the other way.

ronaldo better go off against chelski and barca next week, cause he didnt too much back tracking while sittin up top tonight..so he should be fresh.

they say Ronaldo is the best player in the world, and ordinarily I wouldn't disagree w/ it

but seeing him and Messi on the field, it was pretty clear who looked the better player, even outside of the missed penalty, and even taking into account the fact that United had next-to-no offense

however, it's not really fair to make that judgment until they've played at Old Trafford

i wouldnt take anything out of that game, man utd sat behind the ball and challenged barca to score, and barca couldnt do it. no one player from either team really shined on the night, except maybe Ferdinand in defense i guess for man utd.

I agree to a certain point, but Man U couldn't keep the ball and were on their back foot for the majority of the game...their passing was sloppy, whereas Barcelona's was faultless

too bad for Barca about Henry's illness...he comes in in the 75th and two damn good strikes on target...that's what Barca needed, guys who could hit the goal from outside the area...if he is well and starts it is maybe a different game

well thats the thing, man utd let them pass the ball all over the place outside the box, and take shots outside the box...they never really threatened except for a couple times...man utd were hardly ever on barca's side, but i think they got the same amount of good chances in

ManYoo just got dominated... sure they played defensively but they didn't really have much of a choice with the way Barcelona was controlling possession

but in the long run, it doesn't matter because Barcelona couldn't finish and United gets to go back to Old Trafford where they will more than likely finish it up

barca controlled possession in between the 18 and half...they couldnt break uniteds back 4 down...and utd walked away with yet another shut out

i was unhappy with the fact they couldnt get anything offensively done, but they did the same thing to roma at roma, just a little bit better result.

don't expect ronaldo to blow another pk in manchester, either.

on the other side, i know ronaldinho only recently tore that muscle, but how long are they expecting him to be out?

^ he's done for the season.

And as far as I'm concerned, the Marquez foul on Ronaldo in the box WASNT a pk - Ronaldo played the ball too far forward, as a result, there was no clear chance on goal being impeded, and there was no need for a penalty.

Man United love aside, the ref got it spot-on.

[Edited on April 24, 2008 at 11:15 AM. Reason : Marquez, not Abidal.]

ronaldinho has basically already signed with milan as soon as barca stops asking for a trillion dollars. deco and messi both looked great to be coming off of injuries, i just hope they can pull something together at old trafford

Could anyone tell what image the Man U fans were creating with the signs? I could only make out a 99 in red and then something bigger that was also red.

Yeah

Arsenal has only 2 Dutch players on the team and 1 is on loan at another club. Both are too young for the national team, but awesome commercial.

good lord that was flagrant, shouldve been a penalty on milito for going after ronaldo in the box and not the ball

they are constantly fouling ronaldo on and off the ball, the only way you can take him off his game. 2 games in a row
