Well, actually, I think my most recent post is quality gold. But with regards to the rest....

The series of Obama pictures were an explicit attempt to satirize Kainen and other people's own use of pictures/videos to "discredit" McCain's credentials (McCain riding a golf cart doesn't make him less fit for President). To put the shoe on the other foot. And I hate to say that I made my attempts explicit. A joke isn't funny if you have to explain it, but no one was picking up on the satire.

I'm pretty sure that everyone actually did realize I wasn't being serious, but it's easier to assume the worst of people you disagree with. It makes it easier to disagree with them (and also makes it easier to troll them). That's probably why you thought I was cooler back in the day. You just agreed with me more.

As far as dismissing people go, I've realized it usually isn't worth doing much more. My McCain thread is a perfect example. If you start out at the first page you will see that I respond to comments with long thoughtful posts and links to my sources. But that shit takes time and no one gives a shit anyways. So why bother?

Now the McCain thread is just a place for Spookyjon to quote the candidate out of context and scream "Maverick!!!". He isn't actually looking for conversation or a detailed argument. He's just trolling. I have tried talking to him about specific issues--see my discussion w/him on McCain's views on Social Security. He just didn't care. He left when he got bored and came back when he had a new story from ThinkProgress to quote. So, again, why bother?

If I actually see an argument that seems engaging or rewarding, I will respond to it with an equally thoughtful post. But....those types of discussions have been getting fewer and farther between.

PS* This post is much longer than it deserves to be. I'm not saying anything new. But I do love talking about myself in any context.

As a matter of fact, I am. Back in the day, the rampant faggotry and one upsmanship didn't exist in here, at least, nowhere close to the level it is now.

Intellectual bankrupts like Twista and dnl wouldn't show their faces in here. Hell, I tried from time to time to get into some of these topics, and for the most part, the depth of the knowledge about whatever nuance was being debated was simply deeper than I had or could go.

But not anymore. I took a glance at this place a couple years ago and saw that Twista was posting and figured it was dumbed down enough that I could spend a little time here. When a pothead who previously lived in the sports and entertainment section talking about thug culture and talking about pot in the Chit Chat threads is posting in TSB, the level of discourse has obviously plummeted.
