^^ Yeah, but this time it seems like it could be legitimate. The boys played with more passion and cohesion than during any other game this season. And that includes the Old Spice Classic.

1. i'm not sure if this has already been discussed, but that was GREAT camera/producer/director work at the end of the game. it was so much fun to see a guy's fist instead of gavin getting the steal and scoring. once gavin got the steal, he would have come back into view by driving to the basket, but the cameraman actually MOVES the camera so that gavin remains behind the fist. not good times. bad times.
2. please tell me i didnt see people rushing the court!

Really, but it is Raycom we are talking here. One of our guys could do a triple back flip 720° dunk from mid court and they'd find a way to only talk the other team up for not having gotten hurt in that process.1/20/2008 10:29:31 PM |

Pics from the game. I really like the baseline shots from the second half that show how large our arena is. It really is like an NBA arena. I mean seriously how many college teams play in arenas that are good enough to be in the NBA. In fact it's better than a fair amount of NBA arenas.
Villanova only plays their high profile games in the Wachovia Center. Georgetown plays most of their games in the Verizon Center, but they do play their preseason and non-conference games against lesser-known opponents at the 2,500 seat McDonough Gymnasium, which makes some high school gyms look good. Marquette plays at the Bradley Center which definitely isn't as nice as the RBC Center. Seton Hall plays at the new Prudential Center, but they curtain off the top of the arena which is WNBA like. Those are the only ones in the Big East that can compete with the RBC Center.
In the Big Ten you Ohio State has Value City Arena at Jerome Schottenstein Center (I'm not making that up by the way), which is nice but not as nice as the RBC Center. Wisconsin has the Kohl Center which isn't as nice as the RBC Center. Don't get me wrong it's nice for a college arena, but it wouldn't cut it in the NBA b/c it lacks suites and seating. It only seats 17,190.
There are no arenas in the Pac 10, SEC, or Big XII that come close to the above arenas. 1/20/2008 11:42:57 PM |

^^^ yeah I forgot about the FedEx Forum that Memphis plays in. I'd say that that's a push. Both the RBC Center and the FedEx Forum are nice and have a bunch of suites and other nice features.
If the ACC considers having the ACC Tournament in Tampa Bay again, I think they should consider holding it at Tropicana Field. It hosted the 1999 Final Four, and would create more revenue than the St. Pete Times Forum since it would have way more seats. The ACC Tournament was in the Georgia Dome in 2001, which I believe set the record for conference tournament attendance, both single game and total attendance. It will return to the Georgia Dome in 2009 and 2012.

Grant, Pack Pulls Out Win Over Canes
Gavin Grant was just as surprised as everyone else in the RBC Center. J.J. Hickson had just put back a Grant miss with 3.9 seconds on the clock to tie the score at 77 each in overtime against No. 24 Miami on Saturday night. With the crowd roaring, the game seemed destined for a second overtime. But Miami's inbounds pass went to the wrong guy, and a shocked Grant took one dribbled and calmly sank a lay-up to give NC State a thrilling 79-77 win.
“He just threw the ball right to me,” Grant said. “I was going to get [Jack] McClinton and he just threw it right to me. He really [surprised me] – I was like... 'thank you.'”
The final play was just one of a series in the final 18 seconds of overtime that gave the Pack (12-5, 1-2 ACC) its first ACC win of the season. Courtney Fells, who finished with 14 points, hit a long 3-pointer with 17 seconds left to cut Miami's (14-3, 1-2) four-point lead to one and set up the game-winning series. Grant's steal wouldn't have happened without Hickson's put-back either, as the big man crashed the offensive glass for the biggest rebound of his young career.
“Courtney's 3 was just as big as that last basket,” Grant said. “Had he not made that we would have been down three and had to have taken another 3.”
The win ends a two-game skid for the Pack, who had lost two ugly games on the road against ranked opponents. But the Pack came out of the gates with an energy not seen in the previous two games, as the team drew energy from a supportive home crowd that were loud despite plenty of empty seats caused by inclement weather. Grant led the Pack with 22 points, 18 of which came after halftime. Three other Wolfpack players scored in double figures – Brandon Costner had 16 while Hickson and Fells each scored 14.
“We were just glad to get back home and play in front of our crowd,” Lowe said. “We're just proud of our guys – they hung in there. They played hard and they were tough today.”
NC State fell behind 5-0 in the first minute before firing off an 11-0 run that put the Pack in the driver's seat for the rest of the half. Fells and Costner came out on fire from behind the arc, hitting 4-of-5 and helping State to its best first-half performance of the month. The performance wasn't quite perfect though, as the Pack's 36-27 halftime lead could have been in double digits had the Pack hit its free throws. State went just 7-of-13 from the charity stripe in the first 20 minutes of action. Costner led the way with 10 first-half points
“We need Brandon to knock down those shots and he did that tonight,” Lowe said.
The Pack let its lead slip away in the second half, as the offensive execution lost its crispness and the defense allowed easy baskets on the inside to the Miami big men. The main catalyst behind the Canes comeback was McClinton, who scored 22 second-half points as his team whittled into the Pack's lead. Miami took its first lead of the half with eight minutes left and the two teams exchanged leads for the remainder of the second half. Grant
“I remember the first time I switched onto him,” Grant said. “He juked me one time and I was out of bounds and he popped a 3. I was like 'its gonna be a long three minutes.'”
But Grant actually managed to shut McClinton down over the final minutes of regulation and all of overtime. The guards only points of the extra frame came from two free-throws, and McClinton's lack of success led to just five overtime points for the Hurricanes. 1/21/2008 12:25:50 PM |

Anyone think that this game maybe the one thing to give Javi the confidence to perform well for the rest of the season? I thought Sid leaving him in was a big vote of confidence in him and may do wonders for him. I remember that he looked confident when he took that pull up fade-away jumper just inside the 3 pt line near the end when he drove and got a little separation from the defender. It was just a slightly off though. Had it gone in the crowd would have gone nuts. 1/21/2008 9:32:47 PM |

The thing that showed me how much heart he has is when he was getting in there as one of if not the smallest guy on the floor (don't remember how short the Miami guards were) and grabbing rebounds. Also he nearly caused Miami to have an over-and-back that was prevented only by a really athletic play by the Miami player. That would have been a crucial turnover had it happened. 1/21/2008 9:50:54 PM |
