What does the dark pink curve symbolize? Moving average?
6/4/2009 11:30:16 AM
yeah sorry i mentioned it in the other thread. 90 day moving averageminus 2 months in summer 07, the last time we had consistent daily posting this low was october 2002also, if you notice there was a huge drop in traffic in april 07. i wonder what happened around thenstory.aspx?story=1114
6/4/2009 11:31:36 AM
what is interesting about your 90 day moving average is in stock analysis we would call what takes place around the 14 of april and 16th of august in 2004 a double peak. When this happens it either breaks resistance and goes to new highs or it falls and gets very bearish.
6/4/2009 11:38:53 AM
also interesting is that every year in the summer traffic drops off, but then rises again in august to new heights. EXCEPT in august of 2005 when traffic continued to slideand, from 03-06, summer traffic was 79.5%, 83.1%, 87.2% and 83% of previous height, respectively. in summer 07, after nael took over, traffic dropped to 67% in the summer

i have a feeling that august/september are going to be pretty heinously low.think about it. the more people who use the site the more likely someone who is a freshman and moves into a dorm will have a suitemate or buddy who was an existing user and informs them of the site, but as the numbers of those people dwindle this well of user regeneration dries up. given that a large portion of the constant user base is out of college, i imagine young blood will eventually die off all together. at that point the entire site will be like old school.

WE HAVE ESTABLISHED THAT FACTTHANK YOU FOR REITERATING, DEBBIE DOWNER
7/30/2009 11:04:54 AM
Nothing you or anyone else do will change the fact that this place is dyingUnless TWW gets a rookie class like the NBA did in 2003 when LeBron, Carmelo, Wade, Bosh, etc all came into the league, then the site well never get back to the level it was at its peak several years back.I cite three main factors1) The Old Guard is getting....well, oldThe majority of good users on this site, users that have someone of a reputation and frequently contribute quality posts, is getting closer to a mean age of 30 every day. Real life responsibilities are becoming more burdensome. Work and family life means less time for TWW, and when they are here its more of the super serious lounge and soapbox type threads and less of the lollable chit chat endeavors. TWW is growing up...and for the sake of the site, that's not a good thing.2) No influx of new talentI came in late 2007 as a recent graduate. I just got my first real job and wow, holy shit, 10 hours at a desk can be boring. So I started posting here and I haven't stopped. But I'm 24. I'm not some freshman who saw the site spraypainted on campus and decided to check it out. I can count on one hand the number of quality users younger than me who have started posting within the last 18 months.3) The More things change, the More they stay the sameI don't think The Old Guard wants a lot of freshman coming here and making waves. They've been here since 2002, 2003 or so and have kind of established themselves as the dominant presence here. They reminisce about their college days, talk about their kids, mortgages, etc.. Boring stuff. But its their stuff. Unless a hot freshman girl comes on here with ass out naked pictures, they'd prefer to minimize the new users. They're set in their ways...(I make an inside joke, you retort, we all get a good laugh out of it). The ones who have been here the longest would probably shy away if this place was overrun by 18 and 19 year olds.So for those reasons and others, I think TWW is on an inevitable downward spiral. It'll have its good days, sure, but the clock is ticking. As people start creeping deeper into their 30's, more and more will fade into bolivian. By 2011, we'll still be here. By 2013, we won't.
7/30/2009 11:05:29 AM
