VT is 5-3 in the ACC....but their schedule has been much weaker than ours so far. Still will be a huge game for our team. These 1-meeting teams are big because we might tie these teams and seeding could be big as far as ACC tourney chances go.

[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 12:57 AM. Reason : We play the hardest ACC schedule, maybe the NCAA comittee will see that]

same video, but with a new picture about 1/2 way through.

BTW, Carl Hes looks like he hates calling the basket good after the review.

yeah what made the jumping cool was the fact that it was in unison, about once a second
BOOM..........BOOM..........BOOM..........BOOM..........BOOM on the metal bleachers

no one's claiming to originate jumping at a game, it was just that one guy in the band started the specific rhythm, and then another big ass dude started doing it and that made it audible, then the student section in our endzone caught on and it spread like wildfire once people started seeing/hearing it

does anyone have vids of all 3 dunks? Javi's oop to Fells, JJ's reverse dunk and Ben's dunk to win?

this is the best I could find so far.

Can anyone tell me why the band never played during 30 second timeouts? Was this some RBC douchebaggery or what? If I wanted to hear piped in music at a sporting event, Id go to a hockey game...or maybe see that shitty team in Charlotte. Seriously, there should never be any piped in music heard during a basketball game.

I was in 330 across from the band and it sounded and looked awesome, even from the upper deck.

Keep doing that guys, it looked and sounded awesome.

It's something like that. The band doesn't know all the details yet, but we weren't supposed to play during the other team's timeouts.

^Yeah, that's it. We were only allowed to play during our TO's and they'd pipe in music during their's. Slowly but surely they are phasing us out..... Before you know it, we'll just be there to play the fight song, red and white and the national anthem.

It's total bullshit, that's what it is. I don't know who came up with the idea, but there were multiple times during our endgame run where we forced Wake to call timeouts because of excellent plays and momentum swings, times like that were WITHOUT A DOUBT times we should have been playing the fight song or red and white to keep the crowd in it, but instead we got to listen to terrible techno or some other garbage music piped in while the crowd slowly cools down from boredom....

Trust me ENDContra, the band feels the same way you do about it but right now our hands are tied, hopefully this 'douchebaggery' won't last long, especially if the students protest it....

i don't know what you guys are talking about. some good hype songs every now and then are perfect late game. they got the student section ROCKING! the same song overandoverandoverandoverandoverandoverandoverandover gets boring sometimes you need something else to get hype late.

if they turn up the music so it really bumps then it will pump up the crowd more than our band does. See Wake home games when they play that song and everyone joins in. I believe its the same song they play at clemson after a TD. Either or, anything is better than when they do some dumb as advertising which really ruins the atmosphere.

i was on the road yesterday during the game but listened to it on XM...oh man what a helluva game...the best wins seem to be the ones where you're losing all game, finally take the lead near the end, and then win on a buzzer beater...oh man the 25 year anniversary of the 83 team!!1

the most ridiculous thing was when they piped in "jump around"... if they do that for the carolina game i might just jump on the court and slug danny green in the face

^^^ "zombie nation"? no, thanks

You guys should call the promotions department and ask them about the music. And, sometimes TV makes recommendations about what is played, not played during time outs, especially 30-sec timeouts because TV doesn't always go to commercial.

I agree though - part of home court advantage is having the band playing the fight song during late-game runs.

the hell are you guys talking about

music (if its the right music) sounds way better than our band playing every single timeout

30 second timeouts are fine but hearing the band play through a full timeout at the end of the game just makes the crowd get quiet

even if you don't like hearing zombie nation you can't disagree that it gets loud @ WF when they play it.. i think it was the year before last i went to the game @ WF and it really made me wish we played music at home during late game timeouts after big plays to keep the crowd in it

you people that want the band music every timeout are well on your way to becoming the alumni who complain about how loud the music and videos are at football games

now i'm not saying get rid of band music completely, 30 second timeouts are perfect for playing the fight song. but i like the music better mainly for full timeouts because for whatever reason the fight song doesn't pump up enough alumni and people in season ticket seats, the only time the whole arena ever claps is the slow fight song at the beginning and at the 4 minute timeout

[words]

and to repost since i don't think anyone ever said anything: Attendance: 14,183 -- are we low balling our attendance? there is NO WAY it was that low today. aside from the student section seats that were empty for whatever reason in 125-128, the whole lower bowl was full other than a few empty seats here and there.. very few. the upper deck wasn't full but it was decently filled

i can't speak for everyone, but i don't think the piped in music or football videos are too loud, but they are lame and i'd prefer something more traditional. just my $0.02 dollar bucks.

~3/4, seems about right.

[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 3:55 PM. Reason : if anything i would've said less, but that student section was misleading.]

well, to be fair very little will pump up the alumni

and ^^ i think it was a lot more quiet this year (specifically the intros, i think that's mostly what they complain about?) than years past it seems

or play some movie clips where you have motivational speeches...like the old "Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, comes into OUR HOUSE and pushes US AROUND" from Rudy, or even Will Ferrell in Old School when he bangs the chair against the lockers

this makes me think of the michigan/osu game, where someone made a comment that michigan's entrance was great, and everyone was all 'no way man, they didn't have fireworks or music or anything, it's just them running in w/ the band and everyone cheering'.

i've seen the Rudy bit and some other equivalents at Hornets and Bobcats games and the crowd seems to get into it; and considering the fans are generally louder and better at college games, I figure that would work

i havent been to a state game this year though so i dont know what all they actually do play

i've probably been to too many hockey games but hearing the goal horn after a finish like that wouldn't bother me

although the staff says that NC State doesn't want to affiliate with the hockey elements, yet they advertise each others games at home games

I love the tradition of the band, and the piped in music is good too, I'd just like a little bit less of it. If they want to get everyone jumping for the tip off, then we should all just start jumping after the slow hand clap thing.
