I laughed when I saw that Kyle had put the car in the wall during practice.

Grand Am produced a GREAT race at Watkins Glen today.

and I posted this in a NASCAR thread because NASCAR owns/runs Grand Am....

....and they have a flashing light on the dash for when the caution is out.

That should be in the top 3 national NASCAR series. Hell, ARCA has a similar system and look at the budgets those teams deal with. You can't use the "oh no, a computer or radio or transmitter would have to be used. now everyone will have traction control. we can't have any computers or sensors or telemetry sent back to the pits during races" because teams already have that stuff and it's used for a variety of things like TV coverage (unless those guys are so good with microphone technology that they can pick up the throttle position and when a driver is grazing the brakes on a straight or pumping them up before coming into a hairpin at a road course ) . The Cup series should be similar to what the GT class is becoming. Tube frame but factory body panel shapes and a "factory" motor.

hahahahha did anybody just see that?

Some drivers were talking about their favorite music...they got to Carl Edwards and he starts talking about his Back 40 label, then he says he's a huge fan of [forgot their name] and they show the artist and the song title was "2 Girls 1 Cup Song". ahahahha WTF.

Fellow NASCAR fans,

I am currently entered in a contest on NASCAR.com.

I am submitting the Atlanta Race picture (attached) in hopes of winning this week and a chance to meet Kyle Busch and go to Homestead Miami for the final race of the year.

To create an account at NASCAR.com if you dont have one already. Click the following link.

https://secure.audience.nascar.com/services/nascar/pitpass/register.do

Once you have registered, please join the following crew:

http://community.nascar.com/crews/MMsRacing go to the right and it says join crew. Click that and them it should change to say leave crew

Once you have joined, scroll down and underneath "about this crew", there is a link that says "view all crew photos". Click on this and you will see all the pictures...My picture is entitled "Celebrating Kyle's Win in Atlanta". You will only be able to see "Celebrati". Click on my picture and the more flags you give the better so click on the far right flag. It should change the number of total votes to add 1.

Thanks for your help. Please feel free to give other pictures 1 flag to help my chances. .

Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

I will try and attach the picture in the next message

Yep. I won a pool of about 20-25 people in front of me because I picked him to win. Was only 5 bucks so I didnt care. Everyone was giving me a hard time when we got there for being a Kyle fan but they were all cool about it when he won and we drank beer together and had a great time. The picture is ridiculous and I have it blown up (16 *20) and will get it signed by Kyle when I see him in person.

I can only imagine being at that race. I almost went to it too but it was right after my bachelor party at Talladega. So I needed a few days to recover, but I went to Richmond last year and that is a good track and some good tailgating and camping

Any thoughts on this lawsuit coming up?

Wow, 225 million is a lot of money. But if she can prove they did that shit, I'm all for her getting some of that money...

I have no doubt that the shit she is claiming went down.

I don't for a second buy emotional pain and suffering, depressions, etc. being worth $225M, though.

thats funny right there.

"Grant was hired in January 2005 as the first black female official in NASCAR."

this is just like that female duke football player. you try to help people and they end up suing you for 200 million.

she only made $30,000 a year so this in no way entitles her to that much.

Some of it may be true, but I think some of it may also be her allowing some shit to slide. I know its completely different sports, but on my high school baseball team we had two black kids and they took a lot of stupid ass pranks and shit and didnt let on that it bothered them. That could be part of the situation that happened here. Not saying its right, but saying stuff like that happens a lot

Well, you always sue for more than you expect to take in. I'm not getting into the argument much; seems like it would point to a direction in stereotypes on both sides and stupidity.

I do think it's the last think this "sport" needs though.

From the sheer idiocy department:

http://www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/sprintcupseries/NASCAR_holds_closed-door_meeting_with_drivers.html

Quote :
"Sprint Cup Series drivers and team owners were called to a mandatory, closed-door meeting with NASCAR this morning before practice at Michigan International Speedway.

The unusual eight-minute meeting, which took place in a windowless garage room as NASCAR officials stood guard outside, was held to remind drivers to not forget the fans, NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said.

He said it was a reminder that drivers and NASCAR should focus on all the good things about the sport.

“We have more fans than ever before,” he said. “We have more competitive teams than ever before. The racing is as good as it’s ever been. We have more drivers who can win on any given Sunday today than ever before. I think there are a lot of good things going on in the sport and sometimes they’re overshadowed.”

Sprint Cup Series Director John Darby said drivers were not told to stop criticizing the new car, which has been the target of numerous driver complaints over the past several weeks.

“No, they were simply reminded that we are a fan-friendly sport and the participation of our fans affects them directly,” he said."

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s take:

http://www.race2win.net/wc/08/race/mis/cfq.html

Quote :
"WHAT IS YOUR INTERPRETATION OF WHAT WAS SAID IN THE MEETING THIS MORNING? “My interpretation was that the drivers should be thankful for the position they’re in and should be more positive in where this car is going to be in a year or two. It reminds me a lot of working with video game developers. The reason why the analogy works is because the public wants to know how good the game is. The public wants to know what’s being fixed. Once the game is released there’s a lot of bugs and stuff, just like with this race car. And the public wants to know when is it going to be fixed and what’s being worked on and what’s going to be added. And a lot of companies are not eager to give that information out until it’s done and finished.

“And I see NASCAR with that same attitude. I think that they do a lot of work behind the scenes and they probably agree with us more than we tend to believe. And they understand that the car is new and it’s going to evolve and we’re going to learn more. Maybe three years from now we’ll look back at what we have today and go, man, can you believe we had that car and that was the way we did it? Because they’ll be some things we’ll find that will be just like man, that’s way better. Let’s go in that direction. So I think they’re doing more than we give them credit for. They’re thinking and working and trying and wanting to improve; and that us drivers should do less complaining.

“I think it’s always great to be reminded. In my experience with Mike Helton, if he ever says anything, it’s been very valuable to me. And every time that man has spoke, I’ve benefited from it. It gave me a whole lot clearer view of the situation than I had. And I appreciate Mike and NASCAR for thinking it was a good opportunity today to have that.”

WITH NASCAR TELLING THE DRIVERS TO LAY LOW ON THEIR CRITICISM OF THE CAR, DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO BE MORE RESPONSIVE TO BEHIND THE SCENES COMPLAINTS NOW AND BE MORE ACTIVE IN DOING THINGS? “Yeah. They will. I think that they were. As a driver you just pent up the anguish that you have about the situation and you misinterpret NASCAR’s position and their approach and what they’re really doing. Like I said, they’re doing a lot with the car now. They are coming up with some new ideas and new ways to make the car not quite as sensitive in dirty air and they’ll be testing that soon hopefully. I think it’s great that they feel like the car can evolve. It should, as every car has evolved in the sport, this car should as well. I feel like they know that and they’re open to it. You want to make the car to where it has more front grip and drives better in dirty air and turns down in the corner better. But at the same time, I like the way the rules are stricter on this car. It’s a very difficult situation to have both.”"

So it was not about the car per John Darby, it was about the fans, and Dale Jr. talks entirely about the car after the meeting.

David Poole's take:

http://turn-lane.blogspot.com/2008/06/accentuate-positive-or-else.html

Quote :
"Naturally, word of the meeting spread quickly to the media. It lasted less than 10 minutes and drivers walked out declining to comment. The signal was they’d been told more about what not to say.

NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter afterward encouraged the media to talk to the drivers about what was said, but after the practice ended at 1 p.m. some of the drivers clearly felt like the less they said the better off they’d be.

So it comes off that NASCAR’s message was “We make the rules, we’re not going to change the rules and we don’t want to hear you complaining about them or talking about how the racing needs to be improved.”

What that implies, though, is that there are things that need to be changed but that NASCAR isn’t going to change them because the drivers haven’t toed the line and kept their mouths shut.

Drivers weren’t the only people who got a talking to Friday. I was told that similar messages were delivered to the sport’s television and radio “partners.”"

Yay! NASCAR's turning itself into an American FIA! (/sarcasm)

what do yall think about my picks this week (bear in mind i'm not in a league where you can run Kyle every week, for example...we have allocations)

A listers (pick 2, then run 1 of them)
- Denny
- Tony

B listers (pick 4, then run 2 of them)
- Truex
- Newman
- Blaney
- Montoya

C listers (pick 2, run 1)
- Menard
- Ambrose

i can still change my picks up until tonight

Tony (he's gotta be due by now)
Truex
Newman
Menard

well i can change my list tonight and the only thing i dont think is a no brainer is the A list since denny is good at flat tracks... but i figured i'd see how ambrose qualified since he ran well last week before crashing and blaney and montoya did well here last year...tony is solid like you say

I went with him at Sears Point (Sonoma, whatever). I wanted to save Tony's start and some of Edwards for the end of the year since you only get 9 starts per driver.
