so if we beat miami and gt beats clemson, we'll all by 2-1 with wins over each other, whats the deciding factor there?

Hello, just got back from the greatest baseball game I've ever been too. Brought out the mercy rule on Clemson. A kid before the game told me "Clemson's better!" and I didn't say anything and I think he left early. Kyle Parker was last seen getting medical treatment from Tommy Bowden for the hit by Clayton. I asked Synan about Clayton's non pitch and he thought the umpire said something first. The girl who interviewed me is actually a UNC grad, so I got a UNC grad to wear an NC State foamhead. Brooks I will not let you anywhere near my flag until you buy me dinner (no homo). GREAT GAME, bring it for Miami, and GO PACK!!!

Well how about dinner at the Angus Barn Chris (HOMO)?

You should have made the UNC grad wear your wig.

"Would NCAA give baseball regionals to both State and Carolina?
UNC vs. N.C. State

By J. Mike Blake

Posted: 54 minutes ago

With N.C. State’s resounding 10-0, mercy-rule win over Clemson late Thursday night, the possibility of two Triangle teams each hosting regionals could be nearing reality. It would be the first time that two area schools have hosted a regional site in the same year.

According to the NCAA, both North Carolina and State have submitted their bids to host. But could the proximity of the schools’ would-be sites work against them?

The Tar Heels (45-11, 22-7), ranked by all polls and the RPI as the top team in the country, have an undeniable claim to host a site for the third consecutive year. That regional won’t be played in Chapel Hill however, as this season the Heels have competed in Cary’s USA Olympic Training Complex while Boshamer Stadium gets a makeover.

The Wolfpack (38-19, 18-11) boasts the tenth-best RPI and has gone 3-5 against the top three teams in the nation (Carolina, Miami, Florida State), but by no means has it secured a regional site. Sixteen teams host sites. The Pack is ranked No. 20 by Baseball America. The NCAA Tournament begins next week, and being a host school is often a huge advantage.

Some, like Aaron Fitt, a Baseball America writer, have hinted at the possibility that the NCAA would frown upon giving up two of its 16 regional sites to the same county - one not necessarily known for its love of college baseball.

“Certainly, we’ve seen two regional teams that have played in the same county. But usually it’s in more of a traditional baseball hotbed like Houston or Orange County, Calif., or some place like that. In this area, it’s more of a developing college baseball market,” Fitt said.

Larry Templeton, chair of the NCAA selection committee and athletics director at Mississippi State, also acknowledged that it wouldn’t be the first time two regionals were placed in the same metropolitan area, but also added “as part of the procedure, we’re charged to put 16 sites geographically throughout the country.”

And while he dismissed the notion that the Pack would be overlooked just because its rival would be hosting a site in another Wake County ballpark, he added that it is the committee’s job to spread out the sites and determine how many sites each conference should get.

“To say because [State and Carolina] are so close that one would be considered, the other not considered is not correct,” Templeton said. “North Carolina State’s bid would stand on its own to whoever we’re comparing it to – unless we’re geographically trying to locate one on the east or west coast or Midwest or wherever.”

State has hosted only one regional – and that was, back in 2003 in Wilson, N.C.. where, much like Carolina is having to do this year, State played that year as Doak Field underwent renovation.

“The biggest problem that I see, knowing all the factors involved, are how many sites are we going to put in the ACC? How many sites are we going to put on the west coast?,” Templeton said. “That will play more into it than how close [North Carolina and N.C. State] are to each other.”

While Templeton wouldn’t go into detail about the individual resumes of State and Carolina, he did outline what he was looking for in a good host site.

“There’s not any one criteria that we look at, we look at the whole experience,” Templeton said. “Having quality facilities and having fan appeal and having good experience for the student-athlete are all things that we will talk about and look at, but at the end of the day we will put the 16 sites geographically where we think the teams earned them.”

Should State lose out to a more geographically appealing team with a comparable resume, it could find itself halfway across the country. Fitt’s latest projection, he had State as a 2-seed bound for Houston to take on perennial power Rice.

“If [State] had gone down to Tallahassee [in the season’s final weekend] and won that series – they won the first game and could have pulled out one more victory - I think they would host [a regional] regardless of the Wake County factor.”

Conference tournament performances will be “huge,” Templeton said, in his committee’s decision-making process as it ties in with the “last 10 games” category.

And so, the Pack will get its chance to dismiss the Wake County argument altogether if it can post a strong showing the ACC Tournament.

“[Winning] two out of three gives them a chance [to host a regional site], and I think if they can get to the ACC Championship game they have a very good chance,” Fitt said.

State is so far 1-1 in the tournament, and has one at least one more game, Saturday at 1 p.m. against Miami. The Pack would need to defeat the Hurricanes and also get some help – a Clemson win over Georgia Tech in the Saturday morning game - to advance to the ACC title game.

The title game should be the goal for the Pack, as a championship appearance would all but lock up a Raleigh regional, and give the Triangle its first-ever look at two regional sites in the same season."

Yeah, the new format takes the "tournament" aspect out of it. If we beat UM, and GTech beats Clemson than all three teams are 2-1. The tie-breaker goes to UM b/c they have the best record this season.

In all honesty, I think we can beat UM, but I don't see ANY way Clemson can beat GTech.

A lot of things in that article make since, however I DON'T think we wil have to go as far as Houston if we don't get to host. Rice has been fucking up recently, they were 2 and out in the CUSA tourney. They lost game 1 to UAB (8 seed beat 1 seed) then ECU beat them in the losers bracket.

Bottom line, all we can do is beat UM tomorrow. Any word on who is going to pitch for sure?

^Agreed, but at least we stomped the shit out of Clemson

UVA has won the other bracket, if nothing else, lets just hope it is NOT Gtech who meets them in the ACC championship game.

Yeah especially since we are competing with them for a regional host....

That would be some NC State shit though if we beat Miami but then GT won so we didn't make it and GT hosts a regional and we don't because we are in the same fucking county as the stadium UNC is playing in. This is more fucked up than the BCS.

[Edited on May 24, 2008 at 12:52 AM. Reason : V Haha that is good maybe they will be less motivated to beat Clemson]

^G-tech can't. They're done. If Miami beats us, Miami is in. If miami loses to us and GT wins, Miami is still in. If miami loses to us and GT loses, NC State is in.

Tune in your tv people. US vrs Miami. Winner goes to the ACC CHAMPIONSHIP to play # 6 UVA tomorrow @ 1. A win would probably give us a regional, a win and then win tomorrow would lock it up. GO PACK!!!!! and on other news.....42-14 UNCW blew it and got eliminated in the CAA on Friday. They should still make it with a top 20 RPI and top 30 Ranking.
