Im pretty sure thomas will play this year, my bet on starters is this

PG Degand
SG Ferg
SF Fells
PF Costner

unless javi and degand have gotten a lot better since last year, our offensive production from our guards is going to suuuuuck. of course that's no news, since we were terrible last year. but dang javi and degand couldn't even finish layups around the rim when they got there (degand especially...he'd use his speed to get to the basket but couldn't put it in).

so it's no wonder sid is saying we're going to run, run, run this year. we're going to have to.

although hopefully ferg will be a legitimate three-point threat. (and iirc he was actually finishing around the rim some towards the end of last year). and judging from just the scrimmage last week, javi's shot looked better.

based on the scrimmage i would like to see degand, fells, and thomas on the floor at the same time alot, that would be one hell of an athletic backcourt and would really allow us to run like lowe says we will

Want tickets to the State vs. Davidson basketball game in Charlotte? Well go here and order some. They're pretty cheap right now. I just picked up 3 in the upper deck along one of the sidelines for $25 ea., but total it was $94 b/c Ticketmaster charges a "convenience" charge for each ticket. There are other seats available for $15. If you live in the Charlotte Metro area like I do this could be a good way to see the Pack. Let's Pack out the Time Warner Cable Arena aka The Cable Box.

Looks like we have a solid bench though, we basically have a decent sub for each of our positions. We could potentially have a 10 player rotation with a sub at each position.

G Degand (Javi)
G Ferg (Mays)
F Fells (Thomas)
F Costner (Horner)
C McCauley (Smith)

Lowe has mentioned he wants to get Mays, and Horner playing time this year...and Smith did well at the end of last year that i'd imagine he'll get minutes. So if Thomas ends up being decent we might see a lot of players getting minutes.

Then again we will probably see Fells back and forth between SG and SF, and a lot of others can play multiple positions.

deep conference

More like wide open from 3-9. UNC will most assuredly win the conference, and Duke returns almost everyone from a team that won 28 games.

UNC has the most talent but this isn't football and depth has diminishing returns. Duke Wake and Miami have better guards and enough talent upfront to play anybody. It will come down to chemistry, coaching and officiating none of which are guaranteed. Then you have to remember its basketball, one guy can get hot any night and its over. I'm not gonna say any names.

quite a shame the season hasn't even started and 4 top16 teams are already out of their conference race. Why even play the games when people on the wolf web know exactly what will happen?

Hows that UGA OSU championship looking for you guys in the more predictable sport?

Normally I'm not one to guarantee a team winning a conference, but UNC is so stacked that it'd be one of the biggest coaching fuckups if they didn't win the conference, much less make the Final Four. Roy should be fired if they don't win the ACC, and they better make the Final Four, or else they won't be too happy in Chapel Hill. In this day and age you don't have players of UNC's caliber coming back for their junior and senior seasons. Who was the last NPOY to come back to school (provided they had eligibility left)? You have to go all the way back to Ralph Sampson who after winning most of the NPOY awards in 1981 as a sophomore, came back not just once, but twice and won the NPOY awards two more times.

Now move along troll.

Miami is so overrated. they remind me of the UVa teams from the early-2000s that were always ranked in the pre-season polls then didn't even make the NCAAs

i'd take 2001 Duke over 2008 UNC any day... that team started 4 players that are doing pretty well in the NBA.. i'm not sold on ANY of the current UNC players making a big impact in the league. but that's just me.

i don't think any of them will make an impact in the league either... and apparently neither do they or else they would've jumped ship already. they are, however, good college players.

Feb 25 (9) Duke - L
Mar 1 at N.C. State - L
Mar 3 Wake Forest - L
Mar 7 at Virginia - W

17-11 (6-10)

I see Maryland as anywhere from 6-10 to 8-8 in conference play and will be considered a bubble team for much of the season. Non-conference teams that I think could upset them or give them a scare include Bucknell (the kings of upsetting big conference teams), Vermont, Michigan (perhaps Beilen's team in year two will improve a fair amount), George Washington, and Charlotte (they beat a much better Clemson team in Littlejohn last year). It should be noted that Maryland is in the Old Spice Classic and will have other games against opponents not on this schedule.

My predictions for UVA:

Nov 16 Virginia Military - W
Nov 19 South Florida - W
Nov 21 Radford - W
Nov 25 Liberty - W
Nov 28 at Syracuse - L
Dec 2 at Minnesota - W (should be a tight game)
Dec 17 Longwood - W
Dec 20 Auburn - W
Dec 23 Hampton - W
Dec 28 at Georgia Tech - L
Jan 3 (12) Xavier - W (Xavier shouldn't be ranked that high preseason considering who they lost; I think UVA will be able to win a close game against them at home)
Jan 6 Brown - W
Jan 10 at Virginia Tech - L
Jan 15 (1) North Carolina - L
Jan 20 at Maryland - L
Jan 24 Florida St. - W
Feb 1 at (9) Duke - L
Feb 4 Boston Coll. - L
Feb 7 at (1) North Carolina - L
Feb 10 at Florida St. - L
Feb 15 (22) Clemson - L
Feb 18 Virginia Tech - L
Feb 21 at N.C. State - L
Feb 26 Miami (FL) - L
Feb 28 Wake Forest - L
Mar 3 at (22) Clemson - L
Mar 7 Maryland - L

11-16 (1-15)

If UVA wins more than 4 games in conference then Sylvan Landesberg is the real deal. This team lost Singletary, a reserve guard that was going to contribute a fair amount this year, perhaps even start, is now possibly out for the year, and the big German kid Mikalauskas was kicked off the team.

all of those four (duhon, dunleavy, battier, and boozer) are starters or would be if not for current injury. and while nothing is a sure thing most assume jason williams would be a starter and maybe the best of this bunch if not for his accident.

unc: lawson may start in the league, ellington wont (bench guy), ginyard def. no, deon thompson not now, and hansbrough maybe (but probably not). give me duke 2001 as well.

also, just for something to discuss; i found this while screwing around on scout, per the duke scout page. lists top colleges for nba players and total salary:

Quote :
"Most Players in the NBA - 2008-09 Opening Day
Duke: 14
Connecticut: 12
UCLA: 12
Kansas: 11
North Carolina: 11
Kentucky: 9
Arizona: 9
Florida: 9
Georgia Tech: 9
Michigan State: 8
Texas: 8

2008-09 Highest-Paid College Alumni Groups in the NBA
Duke: $74,307,096

North Carolina: $69,082,854
Connecticut: $66,523,212
Kansas: $61,359,781
