I'm going to try this thursday, I have a date coming over, he's picking up take out so I thought maybe I should make dessert

Slow Berry Cobbler

Total Time:
3 hr 10 min
Prep
10 min
Cook
3 hr 0 min

Yield:
10 servings

Level:
Easy

Ingredients
Filling:

1 (10-ounce) bag frozen strawberries
1 (10-ounce) bag frozen blueberries
1 (10-ounce) bag frozen raspberries
1/3 to 2/3 cup sugar, depending on your level of preferred sweetness
1/2 cup baking mix

Topping:

2 1/4 cups baking mix
1/4 cup sugar, plus 1/4 cup
4 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Directions

Spray the insert of a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.

In a large mixing bowl, toss together all the frozen fruit, sugar and 1/2 cup baking mix. Transfer the fruit to the slow cooker. In another large mixing bowl, stir together 2 1/4 cups baking mix, 1/4 cup sugar, melted butter and milk with a wooden spoon. With your hands, drop bits of dough on top of the fruit in the slow cooker. In a small mixing bowl, stir together the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on top of the dough and place the lid on the slow cooker. Turn the power onto high and slow cook for 3 to 4 hours until the topping has puffed and the fruit is bubbling.

Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream

I have to admit I've never had Bisquick in my life. My mom was a hippie and made stuff like pancakes from scratch.

I dont think I've really used it much for pancakes, just as a baking mix

I'm guessing it's just flour, baking powder, and baking soda? Maybe some salt?

Think I'd prefer a more graham cracker type crust with that anyway

should I flip the roast in the crock-pot or just leave it? And when I should I add the red potatoes, carrots, and celery? Or does it even matter?

I usually put those sorts of vegetables in at the beginning. Stuff like cabbage I'll wait to put in. And I don't bother with flipping the meat though that doesn't mean you shouldn't

bisquick has shittons of shortening in addition to those ingredients, and it's loaded with trans-fat as a result

Cool, I'll go put in the veggies now then. 5 hours should be plenty of time.

Should I buy cooking bags? I guess it could help with clean up, but its not like it makes a huge mess anyway.

I don't bother with cooking bags. It's not that hard to rinse out the ceramic once done.

I feel like there should be a bit of cinnamon and/or nutmeg added to that as well...

I'm confused. The recipe you linked didn't have cinnamon. So did you make the one you linked, or the one on p. 7?

Hell yeah! I just made this and it was good as hell. Food Lion didn't have the herb mix, so I got the Italian spaghetti pack and added some fresh garlic. Will make again.

Quote :
"Pumpkin Turkey Chili

1 cup chopped onion
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 medium sized peppers, diced (I like to use 1 red and 1 green)
1 lb ground turkey
1 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp cumin
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp Mexican oregano
1 small can diced green chili peppers
15oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 cup frozen corn kernels
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
14 oz can diced tomatoes
15 oz can pumpkin puree, or 2 cups homemade

Spray a large pot with nonstick cooking spray and place over medium heat. Add the onions and cook for about 5 minutes, until just softened. Add the garlic and bell peppers, and cook about 5 minutes more until tender. Add the ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Season with salt, pepper, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, and oregano.

Stir in remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes to blend flavors.

Or, just brown the turkey with the seasonings and combine with remaining ingredients in a crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Serve with your favorite chili toppings - cilantro, green onion, cheese, sour cream, etc.

Makes 4 very generous servings - perfect if you're not eating this with any cornbread or other sides.

i know it's really late fall, but this still sounds really good... have people made this crock pot vs stove-top? which is better? I tend to think onions in the crock pot get a bad flavor but curious to see how it would taste with the other stuff.

i don't cook the onions and peppers first because i don't want them to be mushy at the end. in fact, if you're cooking on Low for 8hrs and want the veggies to stay slightly crunchy (or just not mushy), i would suggest waiting an hour or two before adding them

There is an awesome commercial for a crockpot with a lid that latches on such that it wont spill in a car. Totally convinced me to buy that brand. But I don't need a new crockpot, so I won't be buying it. That said, only get your gf a crockpot if she's okay with "appliances" as gifts. Many are not.

This is the spill proof version with the awesome commercial: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=16499773

This is what I have, and it works just fine. I would like to have more control over the timing options, but that's been my only complaint thus far:

definitely go for the big one, i think it's 6qt instead of 4qt. that way your chilis and soups and stuff can be big batches, perfect for freezing leftovers
