it would totally make the games more competitive and the series more exciting.

or the 2-3-2 format would be a reasonable solution. 2-2-1-1-1 is preposterous.

no.

2-3-2 sucks. 2-2-1-1-1 makes it much more exciting.

^how does that make it any more exciting?

it totally bones the higher seed. game sevens are a crapshoot anyway. they should be rewarded with two home games to finish a series

case in point: the series with the 2-3-2 had a higher rating.

SURELY the reason the NBA is more popular in the United States is because of their 2-3-2 series format

As evidenced by this series, the last change is too important to give to one team three games in a row.

Also, if you were to combine the US and Canada as one television market, the NHL beats the NBA handily.

i think that even most casual sports fans would argue that it is not nonsensical to expect a team to win one of three games on the road, even if played in succession. otherwise, they are not deserving of being a playoff team.

surely a "favored" team in the NBA or NHL can win one at home and one on the road to get it back for the final two in their home arena.

nothing to do with sports here, but i would prefer if we never combined the US and canada with anything.

If the first 2 games are split, the 2-3-2 gives the lower seed more of an advantage than the 2-2-1-1-1 setup does.

Despite how stupid this is, I'd like to point out that the NBA game in question was a Game 3, which would've been played at the lower seed's home, regardless of format.

um... yea it bones the higher seed. thats why you play a regular season and earn home ice, you have pathetic reasonings

2-3-2 involves less travel and makes it more worthwhile for networks to send people out to cover the events, but I don't care about that

2-2-1-1-1 spreads it out much more evenly and definitely keep the enthusiasm sky high in games 5-7

Has a Stanley Cup series ever been decided in a Game 7 in OT? Can't really imagine a more nerve-racking sports scenario.

after looking it up on wikipedia, the 1953-54 red wings beat the canadiens 4-3 in overtime of game 7

that's the last time a team won a game 7 in overtime

i don't even know if i could watch if that happened to the hurricanes

I don't think Pitt wins in Detroit, at least I hope not.

I haven't watched many teams outside of the 'Canes this season, but I really haven't been blown away by Crosby. Is he usually this quiet? He's a hell of a skater, but I really havne't seen what makes him the "best player in the league"--I like Ovechkin better.

gm 7 from '04 is on NHL network now.

goddamnit, I'm gonna miss not having current hockey games starting tomorrow. At least the off-season is relatively short, and NHLN has things worth watching

^^ i know man. he's gotta break out sooner or later.

I heard earlier today that Malkin and Crosby combined have NEVER been shut out 3 games in a row. Since they didn't hit the scoresheet in games 5 or 6 one of 'em is due tonight, if not both.
