2 games? I think lapierre should have gotten about 8 for his cheapshot and Ovie could have gotten 4 for his. Both dirty and dangerous plays. 3/15/2010 5:30:46 PM |

i can actually see how caps fans would be annoyed considering this hit by craig adams on ovechkin (which i forgot) from a few weeks ago
very similar in that they weren't big hits but both were a shove in the back towards the boards, adams' hit looks like it could have messed ovie up pretty bad, but he wasn't even given a boarding penalty

For anyone who didn't see Grapes talk about the Cooke/Savard incident, he went absolutely bonkers:
Probably looks like I disagree here since I said it was clean by the book, but I agree that it's a cheap shot and things like this wouldn't happen nearly as often in the time of Semenko and Probert, or today if the instigator was gone and there were patrolmen on the bench. ] 3/15/2010 5:47:10 PM |

Ovie has a history of borderline dirty play. The Wild Man of Borneo does not. According to Colin Campbell (though we know what that's worth), the suspension in this case is based on the "repeat offender" model.
Ovie is the only player in the league with two game misconducts this season, let alone three. ] 3/15/2010 7:56:24 PM |

And.. the third one was straight-up bullshit, and he still gets suspended - even after he gets beat up by dirty plays. 3/15/2010 8:53:20 PM |

I'm not too upset about Ovechkin taking this suspension. It's not going to effect the Caps playoff picture, and if anything allows Ovie to take a couple days off.
However, I really have no respect for the NHL's disciplinary actions now... The suspensions just don't fucking make sense.
I really think that they just threw Ovechkin, Cooke, Downie and Lapierres name in a hat and picked out 2 random ones and issued suspensions.

The NHL had no choice but to suspend Ovechkin, he is one of their biggest stars and the Game Misconduct was a big story on Sportscenter, CBS Sports, SI all the major outlets that don't focus primarily on hockey news. So this story was made bigger than others were. Plus with Ovechkin's penchant for questionable hits it was a no brainer. If he wasn't suspended the NHL runs the risk of somebody on another team taking a Bertuzzi like run at him and injure him for a long period of time.
It won't keep Washington from getting the top seed in the East so nothing to really worry about.
Colin Campbell needs to show some consistency though if a hit warrants a suspension the player should be suspended. 3/16/2010 12:00:31 AM |

yeah, im not trying to hate on ovi
but lets say he keeps throwing out his knee on hits like he does multiple times during the season....eventually that's going to fuck him up bad, and he's too talented to be so stupid. i understand its cool to be the renegade that doesn't give a fuck, but he needs to cut this shit out. 3/16/2010 12:18:40 AM |

there's not really a way for the pens-bruins to live up to the hype tonight unless someone gets savarded worse than savard
my guess is cooke spends the game running other players and being run until he gets tossed after a fight, and lucic picks a fight with a player who's at least 6" shorter than he is
a fight off the opening faceoff would certainly be interesting though

Wisniewski throws a hit from the front (admittedly a charge) in retaliation, eight games

Wisniewski clearly had one thing on his mind: injure Seabrook. Wisniewski ran from the blueline to below the goal line to hit a guy without the puck. He's lucky he got off with 8 games. Could easily been 10 to 15. 3/18/2010 6:20:52 PM |

I don't disagree, but why wasn't Seabrook suspended? It's a clear board and a blindside headshot (not that those meaning anything to ol' Colie). 3/18/2010 6:30:56 PM |

Richard Petty riding the Zamboni was about the only way to get people to come watch hockey in Greensboro.
Driving a Zamboni is fun, but not so much when you slam into the boards sideways. A lesson that I learned from the experience? Stiff-arming the boards on a sliding Zamboni won't slow down the impact

^Did you ever drive Cary's old black Zam that sat outside? We had to borrow it in Greensboro several times when ours broke. That thing sucked to drive and made the rink smell terrible, but damn if it didn't cut the ice like a champion. 3/20/2010 11:10:11 PM |

The black zam is the only one they had back when I was there. (wow, I'm old) Ask Chuck sometime about the Olympia in Garner though. I am pretty sure he had a chance to drive it before he transitioned over to G-boro. 3/21/2010 2:38:23 PM |
