First reports are a right knee sprain. Hope it's not bad.

we'll see what happens with RGIII. looked bad, but could be a sprain (fingers crossed)

i look forward to all the columns tomorrow about RGIII running the ball that will have total amnesia about injuries in the pocket a la Tom Brady

injuries can happen anywhere in football, offense, defense special teams, practice, in the pocket, scrambling

but a small QB who runs a lot is simply more likely to be injured than a pocket passer who doesnt put his body at as much risk

this is Vick's 10th season, he has played all 16 games exactly one year, and while RG3 is a better passer and smarter QB than Vick, I think we can agree they have similar size / running ability/tendency

It depends on whether the "small" QB continually gives up his body like Vick has throughout his career or if he protects himself like Griffin has (for the most part) since getting the concussion against the Falcons. Personally, I don't think his running style puts him at as much risk as he is playing behind that o-line. The hardest shots he's taken have been in the pocket.

It also depends on the QB. Chris Chandler was a pocket QB and in his 17 years, he never once played a full 16 game season. Whereas, the three years where he ran the most, Randall Cunningham played all 16 games each year. Same with Steve Young. Of the six years where he had at least 58 rushing attempts, he played all 16 in three of them.

Also...

Kai Forbath for MVP!

there's an argument to be made that vick has a glass jaw, so to speak. i mean the concussion that's ended this season for him wasn't even that bad of a hit.

vick is kinda fragile

my point is just i'd rather have a huge QB running 10 times a game like Cam, Big Ben or Vince Young than a smaller guy like Vick or RG3 running 10 times a game

and while somebody like Cam doesn't really know how to slide (ie falling down awkwardly all the time), he knows when to get down to avoid hits...every now and then extending a play to move the chains is great, but sometimes coming up a yard short on 3rd down is better in the long run for your health

And Griffin generally does that (protects himself). But at the end of the game, when you're losing and fighting for a playoff spot, I have no qualms whatsoever with a player giving everything he's got to make a play.

ESPN had a doctor on this morning that said he should be out a couple weeks with this injury and that if the Redskins brought him back sooner, they would be risking further damage to his knee.

how, exactly, does that make them a Cowboys fan?

I think best bet is to sit him against cleveland and see how that goes and make a determination based on the results of all the other games next week

I was fine with the Strasburg Shutdown, I'll be fine with sitting Griffin if that's what the doctors recommend.

Cousins to start today. No surprise really. RGIII did look pretty good in practice this week but no need to risk further injury.

Playoff spot is looking real good now. Giants getting punked against ATL and the Bears are losing. We just need to hold on and win this game. The game against Dallas next week is HUGE.

We play Philly next week. But, yes, both that and the Dallas game to end the season will be big. Assuming that our defense doesn't shit the bed and blow this game.

Oops. Had the games mixed up. Even better. We should be able to beat the iggles with Cousins giving RGIII an extra week to heal.

Charley Casserly is saying Cousins is already worth two 2nd round picks:

Quote :
"I’ll tell you what, you’ve got a minimum of a second-round pick on the table, I think,” Casserly said Sunday evening. “I think if you can work it — and Bruce Allen’s a terrific trader — if you can work it, you might be able to pull two No. 2s out of this thing."

Beat the eagles next week and you are lookin at a game for the division crown and possibly a playoff spot at home against the Cowboys the following week. Wow

Our starting RT, who was really supposed to be a backup to our big money RT, may be out with a concussion and our 3rd string RT just got suspended for PEDs. And our starting center has a sprained MCL.

Awesome.

On a side note. Apparently members of London Fletcher's family were involved in a brawl during/after the game

it was good to see them win without the zone-read option. clearly they were immobilizing RG3 as much as possible to protect him today. the teardrop TD pass to moss was a thing of beauty. alfred better get paid this offseason

SO the Skins get into the playoffs IF:

1. Beat Dallas....Win NFC East.

2. Lose to Dallas....Chicago and Minnesota Loses....Wild Card.

I'm wondering why Frank Gore made the Pro Bowl over Alfred Morris. Morris has a lot more rushing yards, more total yards, more TDs and is the feature back in the league's best running attack. Since he's an alternate, it's not a major snub, but still...

And I'm glad Alexander finally got some recognition for being the special teams beast that he is.

Fletcher probably didn't even deserve alternate status this year, but I guess it's sort of making up for all the years he got overlooked.
