Gibbs intends to ask for release

Quote :
"The news of Gary Williams’ sudden decision to resign took the college basketball world by storm, and already there is fallout. One of Williams’ prized recruits has decided he would like to look around. Maryland was hoping to rebuild their backcourt with a talented 2011 duo of Sterling Gibbs and Nick Faust, but now that is in a bit of doubt. Gibbs confirmed via text message with Scout.com that he intends to ask out of his letter of intent.

“Yes I am going to ask for my release,” said Gibbs via text.

Gibbs initially committed to Maryland in April of 2010 over interest from Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Virginia, Seton Hall, and Florida. At 6-feet tall, Gibbs is a very good shooter from the point guard position. He is in the mold of his older brother, Ashton Gibbs, who stars at Pittsburgh and is currently weighing his NBA Draft options. In the final Scout.com 2011 rankings Gibbs is listed as a three star prospect and the No. 32 player at his position. "

I doubt they release them to an ACC school.

well damn, i feel like if a player signed on to play for a coach and actually gets to play for him, then yeah that should be the case. but if he never got to play for him, he should be able to re-open his recruiting entirely. but what do i know, i'm just a schmo with a keyboard.

Fyi, I believe according to transfer rules that if a player has never participated in practice with a team then they are free to go where they please. Check the ncaa transfer handbook that I posted in the recruiting thread

^The ACC has a rule that if you have signed with one team in order to switch to a different ACC team you have to sit out a year, AND you still lose a year of eligibility. I'll see if I can dig up the article where I read that.

EDIT: Here's the article. Item #1 http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2010/05/18/ten-at-10-acc-rule-complicates-techs-pursuit-of-marcus-thornton/

Makes sense, all I read about were ncaa bylaws.

I still don't know what the ramifications are for a kid who requests a transfer and then has a change of heart (ie if Harrow wanted to come back). All I read is that you have to be enrolled at a school for a year in order to be eligible to play, which he has done.

I might end up emailing the ncaa to find out this specific rule lol

^^^^ Lumberton is definitely a shithole, but we had a great turnout last night and I was really impressed by Gottfried. He was taller than I expected and surprisingly charismatic and flashy in a good way. A few things of note that he said:

1. We will be playing in the Legends tourney.

2. (actually said by d-yow) State's uni's for next year will simply read "STATE"

3. The players have been working hard this year, which is something they were simply not use to.

4. Most importantly, he had his collar popped

how did we pull off STATE on the jersey's? Jed must be scratching his head, or a cougar's head. Won't the other 49 STATE's and the STATE directional schools be upset?

That'll be awesome, definitely bringing the Mojo back

It's all part of the hustler's game. You have to stay fly if you want to make it in college basketball.

When is it acceptable to pop one's collar? I argue that there are two times. One when you are on a boat, and two when you are on the golf course. Both must be during a sunny day, and therefore popping your collar is making it functional in protecting your neck from getting sun burnt. In these situations you aren't doing it to look "cool", which in reality when one pops their collar to look cool they end up looking like a massive tool instead.

As long you have a different color polo underneath which is also popped, you'll be looking good. I assume Gott had a red/white combo going.

Nah they shouldn't care. We've had NC State because it's actually better for us as it helps brand recognition, but STATE brings nostalgia.

Michigan State's jerseys only say State.

Hey we didn't start to suck until soon after we switched to NC State. Maybe going back to just State will help break the curse. Of course I think we need to also have a mass burning of the book Personal Fouls prior to the start of every season until we break the curse too. Eventually we'd run out of copies to burn and it would be like smallpox, virtually eradicated with the exception of being held in two secure places in the world.
