Could the Sharks be the fourth team in NHL history to have such an epic choke? And could it be the second time in two years?

Yeesh. I hope they pull it together.

Yotes stay in Phoenix through at least next season.

Winnipeg now hoping for the Thrashers.

i have done zero research on this, but i was talking to an older gentlemen this week and we got on the topic of hockey. He was upfront about not being a hockey fan or even remotely following it, but he started talking about a business trip he took recently to montreal and how his canadian counterparts were discussing the carolina hurricanes being in financial trouble and moving to canada.

I was quick to interject and that they might have been mistaken or referring to the Thrashers, Panthers, Lightning, or even the Preds. I haven't heard any murmorings or even rumors of a Canes move, especially after the All-Star showcase Raleigh presented.

^Those Canadians just want Skinner up there. The 'Canes aren't going anywhere, and will eventually root themselves in local shared-ownership. The only big news the 'Canes will be getting in the coming months will be Cole and Jokinen staying while LaRose and Pitkanen will be playing elsewhere. Though we can all hope that Joni and Rosey stay, even if it doesn't make much business sense Still waiting on that perfect line of two Finnish defensemen + Ruutu, Juice, and Skinner.

Thrashers are on the ropes, and will be packing their bags in the off-season.

The team is not in financial trouble, but Karmanos is looking for a local investor to buy half the team and share some of the modest losses (or profits in a playoff year). Some might frame the investor search as an opportunity for someone looking to move a team, but Karmanos will not sell to someone outside the immediate area.

As of the coming season, the only team currently in danger of moving is Atlanta. Again.

I don't understand how Phoenix could possibly be viable at this point, considering both the political environment within which they've entered into an arena agreement beyond everyone's means and the simple fact that their long-term viability isn't believed by anyone.

While that is probably true, the fact is that Glendale has bought the Coyotes for another year, and the Thrashers' owners are ready to bail.

Don't want to detail this too much, but the only way I see expansion being viable is if the NHL moves to an AHL scheduling format... I only say this because eventually deserving cities are going to want NHL franchises and there won't be any available to buy and relocate.

That in mind, here are places that I could see the NHL placing teams:
Quebec City
Hamilton
Winnipeg
Seattle
Houston

Here are the teams that I think could move:
Florida
Atlanta
Buffalo (simply because the economy there is in the shitter, but I doubt they ever move the team)
Phoenix
New Jersey (maybe the attendance has changed... but I just don't see them as a long term team)

After typing all of this... seems expansion would not be necessary IF you just swapped all of these teams/cities.

I am going to go shoot myself in the face for all of this drivel

The Devils aren't going anywhere while the Nets are the poop and the Jackals is the alternative.

Patrick Kane at it again.

So a 22 year old hockey player likes to party and brings home girls from the club. Shocker

Expansion? Are you fucking high? The leagues talent is diluted enough, especially with the KHL poaching a few players.

If you all will re-read my post.. I did not say I was in favor of expansion. So no, I am not high. I just think that eventually enough cities will want to be a part of the NHL that they may consider adding two more.

Honestly, I would prefer to have less teams. Teams I could do without:

Columbus - Have they ever even sniffed the post season?
Phoenix - Tired of them being in the news for shitty ownership, fan base, etc
Atlanta - How can a market that large not support that team? Those players deserve better
Florida - Christ, this needs no explanation

Sharks capitalizing on dumb small mistakes. Wings looking slow all around.

...might just be a bridge too far.

Cleary has a concussion and won't be back. He won't be back.. even next series if they get there.

Bertuzzi has a broken jaw it looks like. He is getting wired up and retrofitted for a mask for next series if they get there.

so....the Detroit Red Wings using the "why not us" bullshit they started in this series

more or less laughable than the imperial forces adopting a "why not us" mantra when building the second death star?

seriously...

you're the fucking detroit red wings. you've pretty much dominated the last 2 decades of hockey.

"why not us?"

thank god you lost. that's more insufferable than pink hat post-2004 red sox fans.

flyers hosting the rangers???

when will these dumbasses wise up and put the winter classic in ann arbor, in the big house, in front of 113,000 people with detroit as the home team... sick of these fucking baseball fields

Humility, maybe?

Also consider that this has been done exactly three times in history. Doesn't matter how prestigious you are, that's a hell of task for any team.

I think there are talks of that happening between Detroit and Chicago....

I can't imagine watching a hockey game there and actually enjoying it... unless of course I was ballz drunk... seems like it would just be really hard to follow the game in the higher levels.
