they put in Flynn at about the 9:30 mark in the 3rd

point is, Seattle has a top-5 defense and top-10 running game, its not RW singlehandedly winning games, which is why he's the 3rd best rookie QB

Luck has over 200 more pass attempts than Wilson...I'm sure if the Seahawks actually needed RW to throw a lot to win, he'd have more interceptions this year

^ 200 more attempts, but 2 fewer TDs. making a lot of assumptions about the INTs. he's only got 28% more completions than wilson, but 100% more INts

Yeah, no one is going to agree that Luck is better than Wilson this year.

He's been alright for a rookie, and may even have more potential than Wilson. But he just hasn't been that good.

Wilson has been outstanding for the past several weeks.

Seattle is a top Super Bowl contender now. Indy is one of the bottom 10 teams in the league.

Colts D = 25.3 points per game/23rd in total defense
Redskins D = 25.3 points per game/28th in total defense

How is the Colts D any better?

They are easily a bottom ten team. Not really up for debate. They have a negative scoring margin for god sake.

Indy has the next to worst defense in the league, only Oaklands is worse. Redskins are slightly below average on defense, and a lot of that can be attributed to injuries.

Sure it's up for debate. Let's list the teams worse than the Colts:

Clearly Worse:
Chiefs
Jags
Titans
Jets
Raiders
Bills
Cardinals
Eagles
Dolphins
Chargers
Browns
Lions

Arguably Worse:
Saints
Cowboys
Panthers
Bears
Bucs
Rams
Steelers

The Colts have generated more sacks and have much better percentages on third and fourth downs.

You could also argue that the Colts have given up that many points and yards because they've given the ball to the opposing team through interceptions and fumbles far more often than the Redskins have, giving the other team more opportunities to score. So while the Redskins don't turn the ball over and haven't had to face as many total drives as the Colts have, their opponents are making more of the drives that they get.

But the numbers don't tell the whole story anyway. I haven't seen any Colts game in its entirety so I'm not really qualified to speak about them, but I have watched every play of every Redskins game and early in the year, the defense was the biggest culprit in a few of their losses. They've gotten better the last few weeks, but in the first half of the year, the D suffered a full-blown collapse every fourth quarter.

^I think it's most important to note these stats:

Quote :
"Wilson played three of those four opponents over the first five weeks of the season. "

and

Quote :
"Griffin: 2-2
Wilson: 3-1"

I think Wilson can make a push for ROY over these last few weeks. Luck is almost certainly out of contention, and if RGIII either can't come back or if he puts up garbage stats while Wilson continues to win games like he has been recently then the question definitely opens up again.

Comparing all three over the entire season: http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/85175/quick-look-at-stats-for-griffin-wilson-luck

Wilson has been unbelievable and lived up to my expectations and then some.

Even still I can't justify him winning ROY over RG3. The guy has just been too good and RW had a really slow start to the season.

Seattle is definitely a top four team in the NFL right now though along with Denver, new England, and san fran as I've said for a few weeks. Unfortunately its starting to look like they'd have to go on the road three times, and thats extremely difficult

Only argument I have against RGIII is that he didn't even play a complete first season and his backup came in and won two games for him.

While I would love to see RGIII win the ROY, his backup, who is also a rookie, dropped 38 on what was the 17th ranked defense. So even if I don't think it's enough to discredit Griffin's success, it is something to consider.

RGIII is selling the most jerseys of any player all time. to the NFL and the media, that is really all that matters. too bad for RW, maybe he'll get the superbowl first?

Eh, Cousins beat Browns and Ravens, keeping their playoff hopes alive. I think RGIII has played great this year, even better than I expected, but you can't discredit that his back-up came in and played equally well in the same offense. So it does make it look like the gimmicky offense is a big part as to why RGIII is putting up great numbers. It also discredits the "he's the only reason that team is any good!" mantra all his supporters are trying to use.

RW would have to win out the regular season(winning the division over SF) and RGIII and Luck both miss the playoffs to even have a shot. Now if RGIII misses this week's game, I do think missing 2-3 games total will cost him any shot at it, esp if they manage to win another game with Cousins.(Would be very likely since the Eagles are terrible)

Still think if the Colts make the playoff, hard to argue that Luck isn't a lock for ROY. And that story(worst team in NFL to the playoffs, HC with cancer, Manning's shadow, etc) is just too good for ESPN to pass up, even over RGIII jersey sales numbers.

Cousins didn't run the same "gimmicky offense" that Griffin has been running. Against the Browns, I think there was all of one option play. I know your point was that they have both benefited from the Shanahans' gameplanning and playcalling, which is undoubtedly true, but not for the reason you're saying.

I also dislike the negative connotation that is associated with the word "gimmicky". You can try to discredit the offense by labeling it as a gimmick, but considering that they're fourth in yards and fifth in points, I think it would be better described as "effective".

You can make an argument that RW deserves it over RG3, though I wouldn't agree.

You can not make an argument for Luck over either of those two. He's just not on that level this year.

I just don't see how Luck doesn't win it if they make the playoffs. From dead last place a year ago(Indy with 2 wins, Redskins had 5 wins, Seattle had 7) to making the playoffs in one year, with injury-riddled OL, down 2 RBs, starting rookie WRs and rookie TEs and a bad D. He's already broken the rookie passing record, and there's a good shot he'll break the rookie passing TD record too. He's going to be a rookie throwing for over 4,000 yards.

So I'll lay out all the stats:
Luck
Total Yards: 4,211
Total TDs: 25
Turnovers: 19

Wilson -
Total Yards: 3,099
Total TDs: 24
Turnovers: 11

RGIII -
Total Yards: 3,650
Total TDs: 24
Turnovers: 13

All having solid years as far as stats go, most other years any of them would be a likely candidate to win ROY. Now let's look at all 3 teams stats from last year, and where they ranked as offenses and the jump from 2011 to 2012.

Seattle: They jumped from 2011 being ranked 28th, to 16th. Net: +12
Washington: They jumped from 2011 being ranked 16th, to 4th. Net: +12
Indy: They jumped from 2011 being ranked 30th, to 9th. Net: +21

Luck is just having the most effect on his team being better this year than the other 2. If you go just based on stats, Wilson doesn't have much of a shot. If you go on team improvement, Wilson doesn't have much of a shot(unless they win the division and the Skins tank).

And yes, it would be called a "gimmick" offense because it's a one-off from the rest of the league. I fully expect more pistol looks in the future, but right now it's a lot like the Panthers last year where they came out with a one-off offense(top 10 offense) and D's weren't ready for it, just like the wildcat when it came out. The teams will have all off-season to study the O just like they did with the Panthers, and I'm sure RGIII will struggle early in the season just like Cam did this year. Nothing wrong with a one-off offense, but after about a year they all get sniffed out.

And not sure you could put Muscle Hamster ahead of Alfred Morris at this point for even Rookie RB of the Year.

Luck is throwing to Reggie Wayne, who is better than all the WRs that RG3 and Wilson are throwing to combined.

Also, Alfred Morris is having a great year, but he isn't the focus of the offense. I mean Doug Martin is playing with Josh Freeman for fucks sake.

also, i have both martin and morris on my fantasy team. (and jamaal charles, AP and frank gore )

[Edited on December 19, 2012 at 11:40 AM. Reason : i should be clear, i think RG3 is a no brainer for ROY. no doubt about it. wilson > luck.]
