What do yall think of paying college athletes? I personally think that if they want to be payed (as they should) then they should pay tuition. Yea the school makes a ton off of them, but they get a completely free education (one that 90% of them aren't intelligent enough to deserve) and get better treatment then the regular students. If a 100k+ education isn't enough pay tuition and collect a check for games, take real classes, and major in something other than underwater basket weaving. /rant

^^No offense, but most of them probably don't give a shit about the education. They're only there because the NFL/NBA and NCAA have colluded to keep them from profiting off their talents. Why do you think college baseball is such a non-entity compared to college football? The education is pretty much secondary to them, and the schools know it. That's why they're more concerned with keeping guys eligible than they are with making sure they get a useful degree.

The whole "student athlete" thing is a joke. They're not true amateurs and they aren't treated as professionals. It's such a sham.

College sports serve as a platform for guys to display their skills so that they can get drafted. They shouldn't be prevented from making money while they do that.

Do other leagues have 3 year out of hs rules? I wonder if somebody could go pro in some other league a la brandon Jennings in the nba. I mean obviously ncaa is the highest exposure and probably competition but maybe it could work..

No. MLB has the rule that if you choose not to sign out of HS you have to wait 3 years before you're eligible to re-enter the draft, but they do allow people to play straight out of HS.

Unbelievably, MLB is the only one that has a somewhat reasonable system, but that's probably because they have established minor leagues and baseball has been around much longer than the other sports.

It's not going to happen because it means that pro leagues would have to fund their own minor leagues, but it would be preferable.
