Trade back 2 spots and pick up 2 extra picks? Seems like a win to me.

It's not that simple. Second rounders don't have a high probability of ever playing in the league. It's basically move down two spots for a couple of D-leaguers.

Our biggest need is at SG and more specifically 3-point shooting...Hairston is the top rated SG available and is a good 3-point shooter. I don't care what school he played for, he makes a ton of sense here.
Had he played at UNC this year he'd have likely been a lottery pick. 6/26/2014 10:15:50 PM |

I just dont get it with Hairston. Even if he is a great shooter (which I don't totally buy at the NBA level) he's a shit defender and you can only hide so many guys on the floor at once. Just take some random euro donk if you don't know what to do with a late first 6/26/2014 10:17:32 PM |

Knowing we needed a shooter, I was hoping Hood would fall to 24 so we didn't take PJ.
But Charlotte needs a shooter more than they need an undersized backup PG, so it makes sense. At least they added another draft pick in the process.
Quote : | " No possible way Hairston is a better pro than Napier" |
I mean, that's a very confident statement. You well could be right. I like Napier better. But Charlotte needs shooters and PJ fills that need better. PJ is talented and has an NBA build. I don't think it's a terrible trade. If PJ wasn't affiliated with UNC we wouldn't hate it as much.

you guys really wanted to draft a smaller, less explosive Kemba than draft a need? I think the Hornets made out like Bandits getting Vonleh and Hairston. Hairston was a top 3 shooter in this draft behind only McDermott and Stauskas and they got him at 26? But hey, Lebron liked Napier in the NCAA tournament, so all the sudden everyone wants him and he'll be this fantastic pro.
Also, we'll have to pay Hairston less at 26 than we would have at 24, so its a win/win in that regards. 6/27/2014 12:36:52 AM |

What a great draft for once. Gotta be thrilled to get vonleh who is probably the 4th best prospect in the draft behind embiid, wiggins, and parker.
Plus he'sa sure thing .
Pj is definitely worth the pick. He's likely to be a rotation player with really high upside. I like him a lot 6/27/2014 1:21:12 AM |

very impressed with the draft. Can anyone confirm if Vonleh came to Charlotte for any workouts or did we take him solely on him being the best available guy on the board at 9? 6/27/2014 8:13:11 AM |

Quote : | "CHARLOTTE HORNETS | GRADE: B+
Round 1: Noah Vonleh (9), P.J. Hairston (26)
Round 2: Dwight Powell (45), Semaj Christon ( 55)
Analysis: It's hard to believe that the Hornets are adding four rookies to a team with an itch for the postseason. But the truth is they got some serious talent with all four picks. Vonleh slid because teams worried he wasn't going to maximize his obvious physical talents. He can shoot, run the floor and play in the post, but questions about his motor and toughness and conditioning caused him to slide a bit. He's a steal here, albeit a bit repetitive with Cody Zeller.
Hairston would've been a lottery pick had he not been kicked off the Tar Heels team for various offenses. He can shoot and has an NBA body. The Hornets need shooting, and Hairston can fill it up right now. Powell has talent, but he has never maximized it. Christon is a great athlete with good size at the point guard position. Both second-rounders could make the roster." |
Quote : | "PHOENIX SUNS | GRADE: B
Round 1: T.J. Warren (14), Tyler Ennis (18), Bogdan Bogdanovic (27)
Round 2: Alec Brown (50)
Analysis: The Suns addressed three big needs in the draft. They needed a small forward who can score the ball. Warren can do that. He's an incredible scorer who just has a nose for the hoop. They needed a back-up point guard and Ennis is as steady as they come. They also needed another 2-guard, and while I doubt Bogdanovic comes over right now, he's a terrific scorer who could play in the NBA someday.
What the Suns didn't add, and what I think they could use more of, is athleticism. Neither Warren, Ennis nor Bogdanovic are great athletes. All three of these players have the potential to be solid rotation players. Ennis has starter potential someday and Warren's ceiling may be even higher than that. But I'm not sure what they got here puts them into true contention in the West any time soon." |
