I'm getting sick of Bayern Munich, in the same way that I got sick of Barcelona a few years ago

also, I'd kinda like to see England vs. Spain from the semifinals onward...a nice symmetric national conflict

so, knock yourselves out, boys.

Read yesterday there was a clause in his contract that prevents him from playing.

doesn't matter, Atletico will run roughshod over Chelsea

it's like 3 million euros a game for him to play. The president said that they can't afford it.

I'm sure Roman pressures him into some back room deal that lets Diego Costa go to Chelsea for for 2 million just so Courtois can play.

is what UEFA is telling Chelsea. In the same article, it says that they may not want to damage relations with Chelsea because they want him on loan next season too.

I believe Chelsea said he can play. Also don't think any regulations prevent him from playing either.

What a great match up. I wish I could watch it but it will certainly be a good one. I hope Athletico can go through, it would be a fantastic story and I kind of want to see a Madrid derby in the final.

Part hyperbole/part trolling/but partly serious - Watching Chelsea under Mourinho is almost as bad as watching United under Moyes.

Mourinho has had his fair share of sides that have been attacking. His style gets results, can't argue with that. I actually admire the backs to the wall defending in Europe. I think thats the best way to win a home and away match over two legs. Sir Alex had basically the same tactics, however his teams were much better at countering. Chelsea lack an effective counter attack, they are a lot more direct and don't exploit the flanks as much.

Fuck that. the best way to win a home and away match is to have a better team and score a shitload of goals.

Barcelona used to do this regularly, it was awesome.

And who stopped that Barcelona side? Mourinho. Mateo did the exact same thing with Chelsea, albeit a lot more defensive and with a mountain of luck by his side.

Its a way of football. I agree attacking is better but there is something admirable about a disciplined performance. I honestly hated watching that Barcelona team, and still hate watching the current Bayern team. Hyenckes' Bayern from last year were so much better to watch. If they were a better team is debatable but certainly better to watch than Guardiola's tiki taka.

Fair point. But like you said about Ferguson's United, you can be "disciplined" without straight up parking a bus and not doing anything.

Why? It was/is such delightful football. If you hate the actual team, I suppose I understand, but from a neutral perspective you kinda had to admire/appreciate Barcelona in their glory days.

I admire them. I think the system is perfect tactically and requires a lot of discipline to pull off, but I actually hate watching it. Too much possession and not direct enough. I am more of a fan of total football. Possession based but a lot more direct than the Guardiola tiki taka.
