Lol at announcer logic. The best thing to do is miss this free throw off the side of the rim so it will bounce to a player on the wing and they can hit a three.

LOL, looks like I skipped the wrong game.

My friend described it as a "war" of a basketball game.

Whoops!

I mean I can't stand Duke either, but I can never see myself pulling for Carolina to beat them. Besides hating Carolina more, I also want to hear the least amount of gloating afterwards. I only travel through New Jersey every couple years but I encounter community college students every day.

If you grew up a State fan, then I don't see how you could hate anyone more than UNC. Its all about being surrounded by the opposing fans...and its amplified by the fact that they were always good and we mostly sucked (Les Robinson years). There just weren't enough Duke fans around for them to be loathed.

Now if you didn't become a State fan until you went to college, then I can see there being an issue. Because Duke and UNC are equally as bad on the "players I hate" scale, having a coach you want to punch in the face, get all the calls, and the fact that they win a lot.

I just can't imagine the scenario where you grew up a State fan in North Carolina and somehow hate Duke more.

I hate on Duke basketball but in the same way I hate the Cowboys, Heat, Yankees, and other traditional bandwagon teams. Carolina however has their own special place of hatred in the darkness of my soul.

Yeah, like the entirity of the people I went to school with growing up were UNC fans. There were two other state fans besides myself. Both also had parents that went to state. There were probably 5 kids whose parents attended UNC. The vast majority of the kids parents didn't go to college and they were all UNC fans. The rest had parents who went to App. They were also UNC fans.

I guess UNC really is the university of the people.

Speaking of bandwagoning shitheads, I read on Twitter that a Duke fan (student?) printed up 1200 "Duke for Dean" shirts and sold out of them at Cameron.

A clear indication of how many non-native yanks attended. If you were raised in NC, you have a strong opinion on UNC -- one that would not allow you to wear that shirt, no matter which side you were on.

I was bandwagon Duke before going to State. They play smart basketball with a ton of hustle, the extreme majority of their athletes have class, and K is simply the best. Now I also realize too that as they succeed it pisses off powder blue. So I do like Duke.

However, when they play us I hate them more than any team except unc of course.

What podunk towns did ya'll grow up in where there weren't annoying UNC and Duke fans? When I was 6 years old, Duke won the ACC tourney. When I was 7, State won. When I was 8, Duke won. There were just as many annoying Duke fans as annoying UNC fans at my elementary school.

serious question, since I didn't grow up in NC

do Duke and UNC fans think State fans are annoying, or do they just not care?

UNC/Duke would rather beat each other, but they hate losing to us more. With that being said, they don't really care about us until we beat them and rub it in, unlike State fans who hate them (or at least UNC) year-round, no matter what. Most Duke/UNC fans that I know will actually root for us when we're not playing them but then again I'm from Raleigh so it might be harder to hate the hometown team.

I never met a UNC fan until I was 17. Growing up near NYC you can imagine how many Duke fans were around.

Typically I like seeing sad home fans so I root for away team.

I typically do this, except for the time that I was at a bar watching UNC play at Duke. I had decided to pull for Duke to lose, but then a group of UNC fans showed up at the bar to watch the game, so I started pulling for UNC to lose. It was a win-win for me either way.

Growing up in Charlotte it felt like there were way more UNC fans. So I ended up hating them and respecting Duke. I will always cheer for UNC-Charlotte when they aren't playing us.

I understand 100% pulling for Duke if they play UNC, but I don't get how people ^respect Duke, or love Duke. I mean it's cool that K was down with V and all that, but how any non Duke-fan could not hate guys like Ferry, Laettner, Redick etc makes no sense. I mean generally speaking I hate the Falcons more than the Saints and Bucs, but fuck the Saints and Bucs too.

I think it really depends on the player. I absolutely hated Okafor when he played us, but I can watch his game and really respect it. I can rarely say that about Duke players though. Most of the time, I just think they're arrogant and whiny. I don't know that I've ever been able to objectively "like" a UNC player though.

Respect is not the same as liking or supporting. I like having Duke top-ranked so that our wins look better and our losses not as bad when we play them. They make the conference stronger.

But for UNC, I'd be happy to see them in the cellar every year.

Same here. When I first switched me and my brother almost got into several fights. We have since realized that was childish and don't take the rivalry so serious. Growing up sucks

And yeah, he was pretty fun to watch when I didn't care who he was playing against.
