The saga of John Wall may be ending, or it could be more bs....

http://slamonline.com/online/college-hs/college/2009/05/breaking-news-john-wall-to-kentucky/

Quote :
"Sources tell SLAM that John Wall, the nation’s top high school point guard, committed to the University of Kentucky tonight. Wall picked Kentucky over Duke, Miami and Florida, among other schools. The 6-4 senior from Word of God in Raleigh, N.C., is viewed as the missing piece for new Wildcats coach John Calipari.

With forward Patrick Patterson recently deciding to return to school (and high-scoring guard Jodie Meeks rumored to also be considering pulling out of the NBA Draft) and recruits like Alabama big man DeMarcus Cousins, as well as a talented core group of returnees, Kentucky is likely to be one of the favorites to win a national championship in 2010. While Alabama point guard Eric Bledsoe signed up to play in Lexington recently, in Calipari’s dribble-drive motion offense, multiple ballhandlers can play together in the up-tempo style. In addition, the recent SLAM co-cover boy is viewed as a one-and-done prospect.

Aside from Patterson, Meeks, Cousins and Bledsoe, other future teammates who will benefit from Wall’s playmaking ability include sharpshooting juco recruit Darnell Dodson, incoming freshman big man Daniel Orton and athletic sophomore wings DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller. Long story short, don’t be surprised if you catch a case of deja vu when you watch Big Blue play next season–Wall will remind you a lot of Derrick Rose and with him on the team, Calipari could have another team back in the chip.

It still amazes me that people can fool themselves into thinking top quality basketball players would EVER want to come to NC State.

Julius Hodge came and he was what a Top 5 recruit? Damien Wilkins was #1 overall by some scouting services. JJ Hickson was #10 overall in the Rivals 150. So please STFU about elite ranked players not wanting to play for NC State.

^^ nobody here or anywhere for that matter thinks we can get a class full of 5 star prospects in the current status of our program. But We certainly can, and have had a few here and there as ^ pointed out.

If we land Cothron, who seems to really like Lowe, then we'll have the #9 ranked player and the #25 ranked player (Harrow) according to Rivals in the 2010 class.

I, for one, am glad that we did in fact NOT land John Wall. Early on I'll admit I was all for it, but he turned into a drama queen and I really don't think that would have been good for the chemistry of this team. We got Painter who I'm THRILLED about, we needed front court help much more than we needed a one-and-done PG. Now we'll have some experience all over the court for when Harrow and presumably one more top-flight player(Parker, Cothron, Leslie) arrive.

Wall would have helped us win some more games this year, sure. But in the long-run I'd rather let the others get better, give Brown some time at point perhaps, and then the next year have Harrow come in and run the point with Javi backing him up. And I truly think that Harrow is going to slide up the rankings even more, ESPECIALLY if he gains 1-2 inches and gains some weight, because his only knock that I've seen is size.

This ship is going to take more than a year to right itself(yes if we had landed Favors and Wall presumably we'd be a legit contender this year, but we didn't, so we move on). This year will be about getting this great recruiting class experience. I think we'll take some great strides in the next 2 seasons. Just have to hope those strides are enough to appease the masses, because I don't see an ACC title but I do see a much more competitive team in the near future.

Like I said on Page 114.

Quote :
"Panthro

Bunch of fucking idiots in this thread.

John Wall isn't coming to NC State.

End of Story.

Our fortune as a team won't change with new players, it will come with a new Athletic Director.

When we get rid of the good ol' boy Fowler and bring in someone who is worth a fuck, the premier coaches (and obviously players) will follow suit. No offense to Lowe, but he's using his NBA experience as a selling point of NC State, not the university itself. That's exactly the reason why J.J. Hickson came to NC State. Not because he believed in NCSU, but b/c he wanted to use Lowe for his own success.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the long term effects of John Wall coming here wouldn't be that beneficial. In fact, it would likely perpetuate the problem by making the wrong people think they are doing the right things.

Here's to acknowledging the truth....Wall ain't coming here boys. Sorry.

Despite an online report that John Wall committed to Kentucky Monday night, Wall says it isn’t true.

“No,” he wrote in a text message Tuesday morning.

Sources at Kentucky confirmed that he hadn’t yet chosen a school.

“We haven’t heard that yet,” a source said.

As I previously reported, Wall, a 6-foot-4 point guard ranked the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2009, is believed to be down to Kentucky and Miami and will choose between those two schools. His advisor, Brian Clifton, told SI.com that Duke was also still an option.

“John wants to make the best decision for him,” Clifton said. “I think John should concentrate on getting all the information he needs and getting as good a read on the situation as he can.”

Javi will probably be starting in his senior year with Ryan backing him up. Javi continues to improve and should be one of the better PGs by his senior year. I don't expect Ryan to be able to oust a player that has had starting experience for 4 years. That's just too much to ask of a freshman. This is a good thing though b/c Ryan will be able to develop and not be thrown to the wolves in his freshman year. Then by the time he's a sophomore he is the full time starter and playing with a ton of confidence.

A class of Harrow, Parker, Cothron/Leslie would easily be Top 5 in my opinion, but we'd probably get screwed by the scouts. All of them are 5* players on at least one of the sites.

honestly...im glad he isnt coming to NCSU too but this quote just made me lol all over the place.
ever since Lowe was the first coach to actively recruit Wall, Wall and his mother talked all the time about their relationship and how great it was.

well thanks for using our facilities when ever you wanted and coming to all of those basketball games. you should be made to pay all that shit back and i hope Calamari never wins the NCAAT.

this isnt sour grapes b/c im seriously relieved that now we dont have to worry about recruiting violations that might follow. good luck to Wall; hope to see you guys in the NIT (how funny would that be )

4^ Yeah I'd love to land Parker, Cothron/Leslie to go along with Harrow, but the numbers don't work out unless someone decides to leave the team which is possible. After adding Painter we will only have one scholarship for next season other than Harrow so I imagine Sidney's mentality is, take the first one of those 3 to commit.

Personally I'd like to keep our current bigs now that we have some youth and depth and maybe add a Parker who Harrow has experience playing with that can give us some athleticism at the 3.

PG - Harrow
SG - Brown
SF - Parker
PF - Painter
C - Smith

Now that would be one heck of a starting 5 for us.

As good as Parker is, I don't think he'd be able to knock out C.J. Williams, who would be a junior by then.

What I'm beginning to wonder is how ol Roy Boy is going to handle all of those PFs that he's got for next year. They have Thompson and Davis that will start, then Zeller, the Wear twins, and Henson. The only way I think Roy would keep them all happy would be by playing three PFs next year similar to how we did this year. There are obvious advantages and disadvantages to running with three bigs.

LudaChris don't worry about there not being enough scholarships. Attrition happens. Especially on teams with too much competition at every spot. People transfer, injuries occur, players are put on academic scholarship instead of athletic.

Interview with Deshawn Painter by WPH, and I REALLY like what he had to say:

http://wolfpackhoops.blogspot.com/2009/05/painter-ready-to-earn-respect.html

Painter Ready to “Earn Respect”

Quote :
"WPH: So talk about your visit to NC State. What did you do and what sold you on the Wolfpack?

DP: It was just a good time and I really vibed with the players and coaches. It was just that they were real. You know, you could tell they weren’t putting on a show or anything. I just vibed real good with Julius Mays, he’s a cool dude. Really thought it was the whole package and the coaches, I just got along good with them. Pete Strickland is a real high energy dude and Coach Lowe is real laid back, like me. It was a hard choice because Maryland was good too but there were just no knocks on NC State, It was a great opportunity where if I work hard I can get a lot of minutes early on.

WPH: Well I know the Wolfpack fans are very excited about your decision, however most of them haven’t had the chance to see you play. Can you explain your game to us a little or is there any certain player you pattern your game after?

DP: Oh Kevin Garnett for sure. I’m tall and long and I can do a lot of what KG does. I mean, I know I’m not as good as him or as strong yet, but that’s the player I pattern my game after. I always say I want to be better than KG but of course I have a lot of work to do, but I’m ready to come in and work hard. Even Coach Lowe told me he saw a lot of Garnett tendencies in my game. I guess you can say I like to shoot it and I can shoot it. I like to face up and attack the basket too. I’m not too much of a back to the basket guy but,I know if I get stronger I can be.

So did the coaches go over their expectations with you or what your role is going to be next season?

DP: Oh yeah. Coach Lowe is real up front and I liked that. He didn’t promise me anything. It was basically like if I work hard I’m going to have an opportunity to play. But at the end of the day I’m going to stay humble. That’s who I am. Just stay humble and work hard you know. You got to earn respect to get respect, you know. I’m not coming in thinking anyone owes me anything, I’m going to work hard and earn it.

WPH: That’s a great quote and I think a very true one. Just talking to you I can tell the Wolfpack fans are going to take a liking to you. Is there anything you’d like to tell them?

DP: You can tell them that I’m going to give it my all. I mean I can’t make any promises but I’m going to stay humble and work hard. I just want to help the team and put in lots of work to be the best I can be. Basically I want to win and I want to help this team win, that’s why I’m coming to NC State.

^^I'll admit it. I wasn't overly pumped when we got Painter. But reading more about this kid, and how he plans to approach college b-ball, you can't help but get excited. This is a guy with all the potential in the world ... just needs someone to coach him up. Also, I think going against Smith, Howell, and JV everyday will do wonders for him.

^And no. Funny, but no.

I think the year at Hargrave really helped him. Being in a military environment can make one lead a very disciplined life even after they leave it.
