i told Skwinkle i was gonna do it for a week and see how it goes
but since i'm going to Ft Lauderdale this weekend with lucy and LunaK, i think a quick 5-day vegetarian venture is good enough to see if it's doable long term
and i really do think it's doable long term. it'll force me to get more salads when i'm out to eat with people.
the only thing i see myself getting cravings for is bacon ] 4/12/2010 6:35:00 PM |

i was veg for awhile in hs/college. it wasn't that hard. then for longer than that i was a no red meat eater. well basically i only ate chicken sometimes and seafood. no pork or beef. but now i just eat everything however i still rarely eat red meat. i don't know why. i guess i just prefer seafood and chicken. i mean if you hand me a steak i will eat it i just never really make steaks.
anyway
what i came here to post was....should i go get jersey mikes for dinner? i can't decide. i look gross because i've been sick and nothing i have at my house appeals to me (i'm out of like everything except leftover pizza and that makes me want to die). i feel like a sandwich is light and would taste good. plus i could get a soda which is good cause i have to study.

rofl I used to eat vegetarian-ish just b/c meat grossed me out
I was thinking about this, and the progress I've made, last night while my hands were crusted in cow blood

^^ lolz. i'm in gboro or i would and jj doesn't deliver to my house in gboro plus the last time a teeduber delivered to me he/she (must keep their identity secret) did not even say hello
^ yea meat used to gross me out too i think thats why i didn't eat it. sometimes raw beef still gets to me so i just usually don't prepare it haha. i mean burgers are ok i guess cause i secretly like the way it feels to make hamburger patties. that is so disgusting. but it kinda feels good in my hands.

raw meat used to totally skeeve me.
Then I got over it, kinda. Then I got REALLY over it.
And now Z and I are seriously considering a lifestyle that would have us raising and slaughtering livestock, and I'm fine with it. Like, he asks "And what about the liver?" "I'll make liver sausage with it, for your ham salad. Guess that means I'll put the heart in too, maybe?"
The only thing now about raw beef is the smell of the blood. I don't know if that's due to the processing/packaging of grocery store meat, or high iron content.

meat has slowly begun to gross me out more and more, but it's just the whole gristle/fat thing that bothers me. lately i just avoid meat altogether for the most part bc i'm scared i'll get a piece of chicken/beef with gristle that i can't chew. and it just makes me to think about.
i think this will work.
though honestly, i will allow myself some bacon erry now and then 4/12/2010 6:46:23 PM |

I was veg when I was 17/18 but I went about it in all the wrongs ways. I think I could definitely do it (and do it right) now but I don't have any desire too. I've definitely cut back on my meat consumption in the past year. I'm also not a big pork fan anyway so I've almost cut that out completely. And when I do have a bacon craving I get the turkey substitute. It's just as good in my opinion but that may be because I've only really had turkey bacon the past couple years. 4/12/2010 6:46:48 PM |
khcadwal All American 35165 Posts user info edit post |
i mean you can do veg on your own terms ya know. if you wanna eat bacon every now and then, eat it! who cares.
but yea the blood is mostly what grossed me out about raw meat too. 4/12/2010 6:47:38 PM |

ew turkey bacon is tasty but it is no substitute for real bacon.
It's like saying tortillas are a good substitute for good, homemade sourdough.
They're perfectly tasty, fine, good foods on their own, but they're not analogous.

its cows that i could probably completely cut out (and have done so before)

textured vegetable protein get it at whole foods, or I can make matt return dexter tonight or tomorrow, and send some TVP with him.
you rehydrate it, and the texture is just like ground meat...but it is like tofu in that it must be flvrd4/12/2010 7:51:08 PM |
