All Apps go through iTunes, which can be authorized on multiple computers.

Also, anything with a DRM is already locked down to a specific computer anyway or in most cases with the iPhone comes from iTunes so should be available anywhere someone can authorize their account.

Anything without a DRM should is fair game and can be transferred a million different ways anyway.

So that can't possibly be the reason.

The reason is they want you to repurchase your non-drm music through the itunes store. There is no magical voodoo that prevents the iphone from copying non-drm music back and forth between any computer, the software is specifically crippled to prevent you from doing it.

There is no more agument here. Apple wants their device to be locked into the itunes store, and they want the itunes store locked into their device. The ability to play other forms of media is a secondary concern that is purposefully crippled to make the average user give up and use the itunes store.

^Not that i was expecting anything else but you clearly have no idea wtf you are talking about.

1) iTunes and the iPhone are not cripplied in terms of playing non-drm non-itunes purchased content. I have tons of non-iTunes purchased audio and video media in iTunes and on my iPhone.
2) if you reformat your computer you do not have to repurchase your music unless you are dumb enough not to back up your computer. If you lose your drive and everything on it you're still going to have to re-download all those pirated tracks anyway. Who's fault is that?
3) Just like Microsoft or anyone else that makes a device and a store...they don't want your business going else where. Sounds to me like you just have an issue with the business model widely adopted and just paying for content in general.
4) "the software is specifically crippled to prevent you from doing it." - read previous posts, dumbass...we already said that.
5) I can't believe i took the time to respond to a shaggy rant. I lose.

itunes and iphone are crippled in that they dont let you sync to multiple computers. If I have songs on my iphone from home, what possible reason is there to prevent me from copying them from my iphone to my computer at work?

If you do happen to lose your music library on your computer, why in the fuck shouldn't you be able to copy it from your iphone back to your computer?

Microsoft makes a device and a store, but their device shows up in windows as a mass storage device. So all you need to do is copy files back and forth like any other external drive.

Apple has crippled their devices on purpose. There is no fucking way you can be that huge of a fanboy to think that not allowing you to copy music from one computer to another is a good thing.

^I think the problem here is that you are such a trolling fanboy that you failed to see where I supported this idea... I was responding to Stein's questions on how iTunes/iPhones relationship work. Unlike Noen, I am not the official representative of Microsoft/Apple and don't make it my job to defend everything that is apple.

yeah my gmail is really screwing up. I won't get messages in my inbox for hours (even though it's push), although they DO show up in my "all mail" on my iPhone when i click refresh.

Also i just received an email on gmail.com that says 6:10 (it was 5:10) at the time. I made sure it was set to eastern time. Did my gmail forget to switch for DST?

-yeah all my emails online have been an hour ahead after day light savings time. iPhone says the right time but gmail doesn't.

Never really got Push Gmail totally working on mine... It never went back and downloaded all my e-mails like I asked it to, and a couple times it even lost everything it HAD downloaded and started from scratch again, so I disabled it. Imap + 15 minute Fetch is good enough for me.

My push finally started working again after a week. Now i'm trying to set up my gmail calendar. Anything special i have to do? I turned it on push on the iPhone and created some events. Still not showing up on the iPhone though.

-and i just tried creating events on the iPhone calendar. Everytime i try to make and event and click "done" it deletes itself right away. WTF.

This is really annoying. If i turn on gmail calendar push nothing updates on my iphone calendar and i can't even create an entry. Every time i try to create an entry on the iPhone it just deletes itself after about 1-2 seconds.

- and now my entire inbox just went blank and it's not syncing anymore saying connection to the server failed. hopefully google gets things straight soon.

only on corporate accounts. It's the same as if you're using BES with a blackberry. You can get exchange access for the normal $30 data plan for personal accounts.

"First iPhone worm rickrolls jailbroken phones
by Nilay Patel posted Nov 8th 2009 at 10:48PM

We sort of knew this would happen as soon as we heard about that iPhone wallpaper hack in the Netherlands -- a hacker named ikex has created what's apparently the first iPhone worm, and it's currently infecting jailbroken iPhones across Australia. The "ikee" worm, as it's being called, takes advantage of the fact that jailbroken iPhones with SSH installed all have the same default root password of "alpine," and once in the system it changes your wallpaper to an image of Rick Astley and then tries to install itself on other jailbroken iPhones on the network. Sophos says it hasn't confirmed any infections outside of Oz, and to be clear, this worm can't get to stock iPhones or jailbreak owners who haven't installed SSH -- but if you're running a hacked phone we'd say you should change that root password just to be safe right away. Get to it, kids."

don't know if this has been posted, but...

the naturespace app is awesome. it's free, you have to have headphones. put it on the beach one and close your eyes. if you're willing to shell out $10 for the thundergod one, it's way way more awesome. i can't wait to lay down in bed tonight. it's a binaural sound thing, not just pretty noises.

One of the biggest names in iPhone development, Joe Hewitt, creator of the facebook app, has decided to stop development on the iPhone platform because of troubles with Apple's app review process

I would write a tww app if I could get access to the backend

....

Better yet, I am considering adding a message board component to my "iCampus" application ...

Anyone know any good examples of UI for a message board/forum that is on an iphone app?

okay new issue...my wifi now is grayed out and says no wi-fi when I am at home and I have a wi-fi network on this floor!

I've already tried reseting my network settings and have done a hard reset (pressing home and power button at the same time)

nothing helps!

Any good suggestions on a Twitter app? Seems like all of them either dont feature push notifications, or if they do, its not meant to be your only twitter app...Id prefer to just use one app if possible. Any suggestions?

I enjoy Echofon(formerly twitterfon) because it's simple. I don't think it has push...but then again I don't want to be annoyed by a push notification every 2 minutes.

^you're a chick right? Just go in there and do what you do best...act dumb when it comes to technology and I"m sure they'll swap it out for you free of charge and give you a 90 day warranty on the new phone.

This works from experience...my friends iPhone's screen cracked because she dropped it and they swapped her screen out for free even though the phone was out of warranty.
