I'm guessing that the LTE transition wouldn't affect non#G phones? My old BB works fine.

yeah, I wouldn't think so either unless they screwed something up. The Thunderbolt uses a different network for 3G. That's why the outage a couple weeks ago only affected lte and 3G data on Thunderbolts and 4G data cards.

^^I've done that before. Used insurance to replace a broken phone with a Storm 2 when I had an upgrade available, and a few months later upgraded to the relatively brand new Droid 2 no problem. Activated the Droid 2 and I have the Storm 2 chillin in a box somewhere. Probably just need to eBay it, but my parents have it right now and won't use it >_>/.

eh i decided to just live with my broken droid for a little longer, the screen is entirely cracked but there's zero loss of usability, just not as pretty as she once was

For Verizon, they're getting upwards of 20Mbps and 60-80ms ping times. That likely won't last though and will fall back to the 5-12Mbps that Verizon promised initially. I wouldn't think that using it as a dedicated broadband connection would be feasible though and would likely cost you out your ass. They don't offer unlimited and it's $50/5GB and $80 for 10GB with overages.

USAA offers you the money instantly and requires I believe 3 separate services with them (banking, insurance, and a line of credit). It looks like Paypal takes a week and suggests you hold the check for two.

Found a reason to go to Lumberton today for work and got to play around with the LTE they just turned on there and in Fayetteville. 8-10Mbps, not too shabby. Battery life was another story. I'm at 49% after not really using the phone other than maybe 10 minutes of navigation. Not sure if it was my location or the Gingerbread build I'm running but it certainly wasn't that bad the past 2 times I've been to Wilmington.

^ seconded... there's no reason to not go 4G (don't know where you're located, but it will be here in Raleigh soon) and out of those, the thunderbolt seems to be the best choice (in my opinion)... who knows when the bionic will be out, but even then, the HTC has the better ui... i can't really speak for the samsung charge, but at $300, i doubt it's worth it (though i think amazon has it for $200 now)

They still haven't cracked the signed bootloader on the Thunderbolt afaik. Luckily they were able to get their hands on an engineering bootloader so it's pretty much a moot point though.

I know I'm late to the party with this, but I experienced the same thing last week. It appears to be mostly resolved now though.

I would have a signal show 2-3 bars. I would press the call icon to call a #. The signal strength would drop to 0 bars, phone would never make the dialing sound. After about a minute sitting this way, phone would finally dial out and I'd hear it ringing -- when someone would answer, it sounded to them like I was in a tunnel and a few moments later the call would drop.

I could browse the web and text just fine, just couldn't make or receive phone calls.

However, if I drove about 5 miles away from my house (Briar Creek) it worked great.

I attributed this to my neighbors house getting struck by lightning (figured it hit a tower near by as well) since this happened immediately following a big storm that went through.
