david, if you are talking about the blind situation, i knew what they would be, but i didnt htink about it till i was sitting there.
notice how they collect the 25 chips too early and force blinds of 200/300 in a 300/600 level.
now, what that initiates is the necessity to get buckwild open in the SB for one. each level youd have to readjust for the play of the SB and in the SB, and failure to do so will cose good bits of equity.
this also brings up another situation where it fucks up the split pots if the sb happens to fold.
for HI only hands, you want the sb to fold, allowing for an extra chip to be in the mix when the pot is split. the hi gets the extra chip, hence getting more for value for a high hand.
it may be marginal, but it just seemed to unnecessarily alter the game flow.
i also was irritated at the way the taj handled a situation where the dealer knocked a deck that was not being used off the rack. we had to stop 3 times in the middle of a round for them to do a setup change.
since two floor men had noticed the blunder, two different ones had gotten changes assigned.
the first one we were given new cards, played one hand, had to wait for another setup change then given an old assed warped deck where the dealers kept misdealing with due to the cards being sticky. then endure another setup change due to the frequent misdeals.
setup changes arent exactly the quickest thjing in the world, and with a slow game already, its frustrating to lose basically half a level due to shitty floormanship.
and many of the dealers kept doing a full wash after each hand which is incorrect and further slowed the game down.9/24/2006 10:38:43 PM |

raise
I had the same bs happen to me where I lost half level since we kept having to call over floormen because the dealer would misdeal or just do something else that was retarded. The fact they were dealing about 20 hands an hour didn't help either.
I am not sure what you mean by
force blinds of 200/300 in a 300/600 level.

the quarters had been collected during the break
the blinds were then forced to be 2 100s and 3 100s in a 300/600 limit situation, istead of 150/300
so youd really raise there?
how often do you think youre on a draw to not get quartered?

I would raise. If he has the nut low already then you still have the straight for the high with the nut flush draw. Even if he has the nut high you still have your flush draw. Are you really worried he has the nut high and the nut low? 9/24/2006 10:53:09 PM |

im not really sure.
it just felt like i was going to get quartered.
i think this is one of those examples where plo8 and lo8 are completely different beasts.
i think i made a plo8 play in the wrong game.
obviously i was pissed he c/rd though, since it costs me money by the two other who more than likely would have continued calling into my monster. ill post the rest of this hand later.... this is the one i kessler rode me about for a while.
ill post some more hands tommorow that were of interest.
i know of atleast 3 specific hands that i donked to epic proportions, one fold i was proud of, and how i suck out g00t a few times. and got sucked out one a few times. 9/24/2006 11:03:40 PM |

I listened to the main event as it happened, and am just now getting around to seeing it.
Jamie Gold is a total douchebag. He colluded with other players at least implicitly. He showed a card when there were more than 2 players in the tournament. He angled. And yet the most annoying was his insistence that he was trapping people and playing well when he did things like catching a 6-outer on someone.
God damn you Jamie Gold, for sullying the good name of poker. I'm going to start calling him Jamie Moneymaker. 9/28/2006 8:27:59 AM |

It doesn't matter if you're heads up in the hand, you must be heads up in the tourney to do that. Also, you're right, someone should have called the director over. But Gold's soft-playing his friends, etc, is ridiculous.
Also, angling has been around since the game began. But its been against the rules for a long time too.9/28/2006 10:59:35 AM |

What is angling? 9/28/2006 11:22:47 AM |
David0603 All American 12764 Posts user info edit post |
Angle-Shooting Using unfair tactics.
Usage: A poker player who uses various underhanded, unfair methods to take advantage of inexperienced opponents. The difference between an angle shooter and a cheat is only a matter of degree. What a cheat or thief does is patently against the rules; what an angle shooter does may be marginally legal, but it's neither ethical nor gentlemanly. Nor is it in the spirit of the game. Unfortunately, poker is not a gentleman's game. In addition to learning how to protect yourself against cheating players, you must learn to watch out for the angle shooters. See "Angle".
Angle An action that isn't against the rules, but still incorporates unfair tactics.
Usage: A maneuver, usually on the border between legality and illegality (but usually clearly unethical), to take unfair advantage of another player. Extreme example: Some clubs consider putting fewer chips than required into the pot an uncompleted bet that is not valid until completed, and that, furthermore, can be removed until such time as sufficient chips are bet. (Fortunately, there aren't many such clubs.) In such a club, you bet $100 and another player puts in $99. You show your cards, which have him beat. He says, "I put in only $99; I didn't call your bet." He withdraws the chips. Of course, if he had you beat, he would quietly take the whole pot. If someone pointed out at that juncture that he called only $99, he would probably say, "Oh, pardon me, just an oversight; I meant to call," add the missing chip, and then drag the pot. All of that is part of an angle.

see the difference between what mims is saying and the actual def. of angle shooting?
angle shooting is not illegal, but merely unethical.
its been around forever, and will continue to be around.
you'll see people angle shooting all the time in casinos, its usually the nittiest of the nits that know the rules well and are trying to exploit the players that dont.

i think there were around 60 left, top 27 cashing.
how it went, hes in the blinds iwth K6o.
utg limps, 2 way action, flop is K62,
check/check,
turns a J
he bets, other guy calls,
rivers a J
he checks, other guy pushes, karim folds, other guy has 66.

Who all has played on Mansion? I have been reading some reviews, and it says something about having to prove your identity before you can cash out. One guy in a review mentioned you have to send a copy of your passport. Whats the deal?
btw that deal with them on PokerSavvy.com is awesome. You can clear it all in one bet in the sports book, you can wager $50 and be guaranteed $90 in poker points, so at worst you come out with $40 profit.

Perhaps I should have given a better example of the angling that gets done OFTEN, even on television.
People act out of turn. When they were down to the final table, Gold folded his cards when Cunningham announced a raise even though there was still someone to act behind him.
Why is that a problem? Because now Cunningham knows he only has to deal with the people behind Gold. He can adjust the raise accordingly due to this new information that he wasn't entitled to at that point in the hand.
Acting out of turn is against the rules and shouldn't be done.
Other examples of angling that are not against the rules were listed before, and others include moving chips around to look like you're going to make a raise, and looking for your opponents reaction and then not betting the chips.
Matusow DID break the rules last year when he made forward motion with his chips and then pulled them back when the player looked ready to call. People who act out of turn or break betting rules like that should be dead in the hand. That's the way a good TD would handle it.
Maybe that doesn't fit the true definition of angling, but it is in the common usage of the term. 9/29/2006 11:27:35 AM |
