Sounds like Ryan is only going to continue to climb in the rankings. Dude just dropped 32 points on a very good team. Back when we were getting verbals from brown, howell and harrow who would have thought that harrow would turn out to be the biggest pickup of them all? 5/23/2009 6:24:56 PM |

^^^ Saw that one coming. I get the point already
Quote : | "# of minutes played has very little effect on poor substitution patterns. The key is putting those minutes together well. Lowe didnt do that very well until towards the end of the year.
You're not even arguing the same subject. And your argument has zero merit with crap like 'Lowe was alive before you and other good coaches say nice things about him when the cameras/recorders are on'
You may as well say you cant comment on any coaches ability because since they all invariably have more experience than any of us, they all know what they're doing and are doing it well." |
1st off, we're ALL entitled to comment on Coach Lowe, the players, or anyone else for that matter. Hell you can comment on me if you like, like simonn does with stunning frequency. However, we're also entitled to get our assessments shot down for being dead freaking wrong. And one of the reasons we're wrong is that oftentimes we don't know enough about what/who we're criticizing to make a truly informed, objective assessment.
In this case, I have to side with BigEgo, and not just b/c I think his posts are, on average, better than most of us on TWW. I mean, let's consider the circumstances:
1) The team and the coaching staff is a mixed bag, containing personnel brought in by both Sendek and Lowe. Not as big a factor in the 3rd year, but it's still a factor.
2) The team showed a lack of intensity and focus last year, which would explain why Lowe would (among other things) frequently shuffle the lineup in an effort to finds guys that would hustle.
3) The team had a lot of players with similar talent levels. When you've got 10 guys that have a legitimate chance of starting (not playing, but starting), you're bound to have some degree of chaos. Just take Degand, Gonzalez, and Mays for example. Anyone want to put money on who starts next year at PG? SG? Some would probably take "none of the above" thinking that Brown/Wood would start right away. We could have a week long discussion on this and still not come up with a concrete answer.
4) There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know. Some injuries aren't reported. Some players have bad attitudes or drama in their personal lives. Making judgment calls on PT strictly by watching games is kind of like predicting recruiting based solely the "Interest Levels" reported by Scout. You can get an idea, but you know you're not getting the whole story.5/24/2009 11:26:47 AM |

N&O covering the Bob Gibbon TOC:
Quote : | "A 6-foot-1, 150-pound wisp of a point guard, Harrow spun between defenders and darted one-handed, no-look passes to teammates en route to a 26-point performance. Guard Jordan McRae..." |
Quote : | "Late in a blowout of the Mid-State Magic on Saturday afternoon, Atlanta Celtics guard Ryan Harrow called for the ball on a breakaway at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions club basketball event.
With no defender in sight, Harrow tossed the ball hard off the backboard, then leaped to catch and dunk all in one motion.
"My players always want me to throw it off the backboard because they say it’s my signature dunk,” Harrow said after wowing the crowd at Reynolds Coliseum at N.C. State, the school he’s committed to.
Harrow, a 6-foot-1 point guard in the Class of 2010, said he is lobbying top players such as Red Springs Flora McDonald forward Luke Cothran to join him at N.C. State." |

I donated $15 to the cause
Harrow, Parker and Cothron will be playing together Which could potentially be the 3 recruits we take next year.

Maybe someone should post it on PP. I don't know how they'd feel about it though. I mean I would think that if the guys at PP could get a good relationship going with WPH, then they could share video and stats with each other. PP has the actual boards to discuss things on and post topics. I think that most people that visit one probably visit the other anyways. Also it'd be helping out the NC State program which both want anyways. 5/24/2009 11:10:40 PM |

I know that WPH is competition for them (not really though since most people read both), but in this circumstance it would really help the program to have someone out there covering these guys. It sends a big message to them that we are serious about our basketball and that we want them to come play for our program.
Note: I thought the thread was taking it too far. I just posted a little blurb in the bball recruiting thread mentioning what they were doing.

^^^ well it was some of the fans on the site that wanted to do it. the WPH guys were like we don't have the money to go out there, and jokingly said, "if someone wants to donate the money for us to go out there, then we'll cover it." then people started donating so they ran with it. besides they provide things, like interviews with recruits, that PP and TWP would normally make premium content. if the readers want to repay them by donating money to get them out to the Pangos then I see no problem with it.

it's very different. SFN is a blog that just writes articles about how good their articles are. WPH is in the format of a blog, but has a stated mission of providing, for free, the same content that packpride provides for a fee.

I don't think a thread should be allowed, but I think it's ok if someone just posts a little blurb in one of the threads saying that the WPH site might cover Harrow, Cothron, & Parker at the Pangos if they get enough money. People post info from Rivals on there all the time, and there would definitely be info from WPH's coverage posted in the bball recruiting thread over there if they made it out to the Pangos tournament. 5/25/2009 2:11:37 PM |

If you haven't watched Harrow's videos, do so. At times he honestly looks like a video game character out there. Aside from just how freakin' quick he is with that wicked crossover, just watch how high he jumps on those dunks. He's barely over 6 feet tall, yet he's doing "trick-shot" dunks with ease.

Once he sees how good our backcourt is with Gonzalez, Mays, Brown, and Wood he'll probably realize we don't need him and back out.

Harrow has made it known that he's 100% solid to State as long as Sidney Lowe is here. So I have no worries about him decommitting, I really didn't have as much faith in CJL staying committed to us. 5/26/2009 11:35:35 AM |

I think a good part of it was the fact he was just a freshmen at the time. Typically those type of commitments can be hard to keep for 3-4 years. Then added to the 5-stars, the hype, and being good friends with John Wall and seeing how much attention he got, I wasn't surprised at all. That being said, I hope he still comes back to us, I think it would speak volumes for our coaches if they could get him back in the fold after all these big name programs have been talking to him. 5/26/2009 12:32:03 PM |
