Clinton didn't step down because the Senate did not convict him. If they had, he would have been out, forcibly removed by Secret Service if he just refused.

Impeachment works by having the House vote to impeach and then the Senate vote to convict, 2/3rds majority required if I'm not mistaken.

No way current Congress impeaches Trump, no matter how damning Mueller's report is, particularly if all that's there is obstruction. If there is substantial evidence of legit (definitional) treason, you may see him resign or you may see the Cabinet act on the 25th Amendment.

And unless he steps down for legit treasonous activity (again, definitional), it's almost certain the next President pardons him, irrespective of who that is and what party they belong to.

At this point I can't think of a President we've had since maybe Kennedy that shouldn't have been impeached for something fairly serious:

Nixon (thankfully he left)

Ford (for pardoning Nixon)

Carter (for fucking up the Iranian hostage situation so badly)

Reagan (Iran Contra)

Bush Senior (Iran Contra)

Obama (civil rights as related to drone strikes and policy on U.S. citizens) < I'm torn on this one honestly, people have told me he was pretty bad as it comes to citizens' rights but I honestly haven't read a lot on it. But presuming what I've been told is true, he probably should have been.

Claiming Trump is mobbed up because he's had to deal with mafia controlled industries in NYC is a little much. You're not getting concrete, windows, or drywall done in NYC without having to deal with mobsters. Hell, Frank Perdue had to meet with the Gambino family to get his chickens into NYC grocery stores, often enough that Sammy Gravano wrote about how much he hated the man. I’m not sure what trump is trying to achieve with firing Sessions or even leaking he wants to fire Sessions.

Obviously he’s pissed sessions won’t kill the muller investigation or Cohen investigation, but i doubt anyone else approved by congress would either.

And then it’s obvious trump would be making that decision in a further effort to obstruct Justice. I guess trump would just be testing how much obstruction he thinks he can get away with?

And it’s even possible whoever replaces Sessions is a better attorney general, because Sessions is pretty bad.


On a completely different note, it’s weird to think that had trump not broken the law, and reported the mistress payments legally, this might have been enough of a blip in the polls for Hillary’s narrow lead to hold. This possibly had a bigger impact on the election than the Russia collusion, based on what we know about Russia so far.

Things that would ordinarily be serious scandals in any other situation, like critcizing DOJ prosecutions because it’s bad optics for the GOP. If you try to keep people updated it’s too much to keep track of and people become numb.

Also CPI is going up while wages have been relatively stagnant... most workers this year and next year are expected to make less money, despite corporate profits, tax breaks, and massive farm subsidies because of the tariffs.
