I swapped my Thunderbolt for a Charge yesterday. Thoughts so far:

The Charge screen is as advertised. There is no comparison between screens. The most striking part is the deep blacks, which brings out the contrast and makes the bright colors that much more vivid.

The phone is very light, but not creaky or too cheap feeling. I wish they had opted for a metal battery cover, but I will be getting a case which makes it somewhat irrelevant.

The contoured shape feels good in my hand. This was an issue for me with the Thunderbolt. It just never really settled into my hand comfortably. Unfortunately, just like the Tbolt, the Charge is made for righties, with it's mini-usb port in the way of lefties when charging.

Touchwiz is some kind of bastardized stepchild of Sense and iOS. It's ugly and a bit laggy. As soon as I root, I will be moving to a clean android build. Apparently rooting is pretty easy on this phone, but development is not like that on the Tbolt. Still, a basic root that removes touchwiz and the bloatware is supposed to work wonders for this phone. One very annoying thing is that the browser doesn't continually wrap and resize text, like on the T bolt.

battery life, the camera and media player are all better than on the Tbolt. Physical buttons are a plus. But I do miss that fucking kickstand.

That's all for now.

Skyfire did it default for me but under stock browser I think what youre looking for is under settings, Auto-fit pages. I may have misunderstood you though.

^that's the only thing that's keeping me on their network. They've really cracked down on people milking their propensity to get freebies (cheap plans, early upgrades, etc) it wouldn't surprise me to see them pull a dick move and start limiting their data plan at some point.

I've had Gingerbread on my Evo since CM7 came out.

Does anyone else on here have Honeycomb on their Nook Color? I'm trying to get Netflix to work on it, but so far have had no luck yet. I'm going to try to install Flash on it later, because I think if I get that to work then I'll get Netflix to work..or so I hope..

^if you'll use it a lot you'll probably/eventually get caught due to pulling so much data. that's true for any OS/wireless provider. If you're going to risk it, updating the OS won't matter much.... VZW blocked some tethering apps on the market (i'm on 2.2 and I know some are blocked). just update, find a tethering app/apk online (via PC) then move it to your SD card and install

oh yeh, and vzw still hasn't fixed the issues in my area pissing me off

Quote :
"Although I have yet to see any Phantips from our readers on the subject, Mobile Crunch is reporting that more than a few Motorola Droid X users have come into some difficulty when updating their phones with the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread OTA that’s being pushed out. Apparently, Droid X’ers from multiple websites and forums, are reporting their devices freezing after updating, requiring a battery pull. Even then, some people are having issues even getting the phone to boot after that.

This really comes as no surprise to me. Android updates are anything but 100% bug free and are not unique to a specific manufacturer. I’ve seen it time and time again, where people have completely different experiences even when updating the exact same device. Actually happened to me when updating my trusty HTC EVO 4G to 2.2 back in the day. Lucky for me, a good ‘ol fashioned factory reset fixed my problem right up.

In any case, I’ve always known Verizon to be very helpful during potentially stressful times like OTA updates and I’m sure they will be more than happy to help you out. So tell me Droid X users, have you guys experienced any hiccups while updating to Gingerbread? Any tips you can provide for updaters?"

The stupid thing about the tethering restriction and "forcing" you to purchase the add-on is that you've already paid for data (if you're on a tiered plan). Why does it matter how you use said data? Once you go over, you get taken to the cleaners with charges.

I'm a fan of their rates and voice coverage, but not so much on their data coverage. i'll have 3-5 bars of 3G and get "page can not be displayed" on the internets...or messages like "data connection required" from applications. Doesn't happen nearly enough to make me switch, but annoying all the same

FWHY: Evo 4G Trade In is $150 right now and the quote is valid for 45 days. Not sure if it will drop on launch day or if it's valid for in-store trades, but it can't hurt to submit the request if you plan on trading in.

I've been having issues receiving texts on my phone lately. I have a droid incredible that was rooted and running CM7. then my texts started to take like 3-4 hours to receive. I could send them instantly but would have to wait hours for a response. I then went back to stock 2.2 and was still having issues. I started to use HandcentSMS and it was working perfectly.. but today it started going slow as shit again. Any ideas as to why this has been happening/how to fix it?

so every once in awhile my phone seems to freeze up a little bit (thunderbolt). i have the appkiller thing and dont run a bunch of shit so thats not it.

i seem to have narrowed it down to having too many text threads open at once... usually around 50 or so it starts freezing.

im not actually talking to 50 different people its more like ill send a mass text to state fans, a mass text to nba fans, a mass text to family, etc and that opens a new thread each time.

Is this really whats creating the problem? And if so whats the solution? its really annoying to have to delete my text history everyday.

I used to have that problem on my old 2008ish HTC Diamond Touch. I think it is storing the text history on your phone's memory rather than the memory card. I had a problem where the history got too vast and I even though I told the phone to move the files over, it couldn't do it and I just had to delete everything.

Look into your settings and check to see where texts are being stored.

--

Also, my phone has also been freezing up and randomly restarting on its own. Shit is getting annoying. I'm also having issues where it will run really slow due to a lot of programs running in the background (I thought Droid didn't do that ) though when I hit Task Killer it frees up a ton of memory. Its not even apps really, its shit like (what is shows right now after a restart) "Social Networking", "MediaShare", "Music", Amazon Appstore, Skype, Contacts, Voice Commands...garbage I never opened or use but can't get rid of. Well I can get rid of Amazon but they have free shit every day .

All of that takes up about 30M out of 216M, and then when I run my regular apps it really bogs down the memory. I've moved everything over to the SD card that I can, any other tips besides rooting...which I'm getting really close to doing? Likely following that CM7 or whatever guide a bunch of posts up.

Also, I like how this thread talks about real issues, and the other thread talks about cases, bad customer service, waiting for the next model to drop, and broken glass faces

If your line is only eligible for the $75 credit then the 3D would be $499.99. After 22mo (or 12mo w/ premier) you qualify for all new customer incentives or $150 whichever is the greater discount. In this case, it's the $199.99 price point.

those of you in the know, what devices (or rumors of devices) are there upcoming for VZW in the next few months, say until october?

I have a DX now. Don't want to lose much screen real estate - I love the DX just for that; your small screen phones suck, IMHO . Obviously would want 4G. Eligible for my 2 yr upgrade; was told I have 6 months to use it... which would be Octoberish.
